40 Summer 513

It was a market day in Wind Reach and Kane was wandering between the various stalls, though he tended to stay nearer to the areas with less people milling about. He’d never enjoyed large crowds. Or people. Though they were oddly fascinating to watch. You know, from far away.

Still, there were supplies to be bought, so he had braved the summer heat and large crowds. So far, two shirts, a pair of pants, and a piece of steak had added themselves to his possessions.

The shirts were radically different from each other. One was a light grey color; just a simple shirt, but Kane had liked it. The other was a bit more flamboyant color-wise. It was a deep purple. A rather pretty color, though not one he’d ever really imagined wearing. He honestly wasn’t sure why he’d bought it, a whim perhaps, but it was paid for and stuffed into his backpack none the less.

There really wasn’t anything notable about the pants. They were black. A good choice to go with almost any other color, so he hadn’t minded spending the money for them.

His final purchase wasn’t so much for himself as it was for his dog. Saul was a good dog, and Kane had felt like he’d deserved a bit of a treat.

Looking up to the sky, Kane could tell that it was almost to the middle of the day. This along with the packs of people bustling around meant the heat was really beginning to set in. He was beginning to worry about the state of his steak. It wouldn’t do for it to start leaking and smelling funny. He wrinkled his nose. That would be horrible actually.

It was time to head back to his room then. Destination set, he began to make his way through the market place towards the closest exit. Then he could have a nice walk back to the Darniva Commonrooms. It wouldn’t take him too long to get back.

Personal Problems [Stardust]

"Shyke! This is trouble!" The woman swore to herself as she looked around the market place. Everyone that gave her a look made her nervous. This was not a normal occurrence for her, so she tried her best to ignore it. One thing was for sure, she was going to need to find someone she knew. Someone that had helped her in the past. Someone that owed her.

Rowan's dark red hair was back in a simple ponytail with multiple braids hanging down her back. Dressed to fit in with the Inarta, she wore a beaded black halter top, very close to to a vinati, but with some modifications. Several tied pockets could be seen attached to the top, a few of them obviously had items within them. But for how many that could be seen, there were twice as many hidden. That was her style. She wore a pair of red colored Bryda that she had grabbed. But no matter how hard she tried, the Svefra looked like a fish out of water.

She moved carefully among the crowd. As she walked by a stall selling scarves and loose material, the woman stopped. The couple in charge of the stall were talking to a few people at the nearby stall, meaning they were not paying attention. If they weren't paying attention, they didn't really need it. The woman narrowed her bright sky-blue eyes and took ahold of one of the scarves. With a quick movement of her wrist she was gone, heading towards the exit. She wrapped the scarf around her head, covering her hair. There was someone she needed to speak to.

Luckily for her, the young man was right where she had expected. "Mittens!" Rowan said with grin and moved quickly towards him. "Darling! I've missed you!" She embraced him in an overbearing hug. "So, I have a favor to ask." She whispered to him, before letting him go and taking a couple steps back.

To Kane, she had to have looked different than usual. For once she wasn't wearing much jewelry, and she was dressed to look very Inartan with their common clothing and glass beads attached to her in various fashions, but the style really didn't fit. It was plainly obvious that she wanted something.

Personal Problems [Stardust]

The path he wanted was straight ahead. Kane was almost free of the crowds and heat that came with the Market Days. Relief was already beginning to wash over him. The day was going very well for him.

And he honestly should have known better; his standing with luck had never been a good one. A cry of “Mittens!” affirmed this fact. He was barely able to get out a groan before a pair of arms circled him in a tight hug. Along with a whisper to his ear. Of course she wasn’t here to visit. Rowan never just visits.

Looking her up and down, he took note of all the changes in her appearance. “Wow, you really suck at fittin’ in, don’t you?” Kane shot her a grin as he reached forward to fret with the tie and fit of her scarf. It was crooked on her head and the knot was loose. “Which is really unlike you. Where’s all your shiny jewelry?” She must really be in a spot if she’d given up some of her favorite adornments.

Concern entered his eyes, and he looked up to meet hers. “What’s wrong?”

Honestly, he was worried about her. She may have been one of the most annoying people he’d ever known, but he also trusted her more than even his family. Rowan was one of the biggest influences of change in his life; in a good way, he’d like to think. Which is why, no matter what she needed, be it help or home, he’d be there for her. It was the least he could do, especially after the way she’d taken him onto her ship when he was in trouble back in Syliras. Not that she hadn’t gained anything out of the deal, but that was a different point all together.

Now wasn’t the time to get lost in thought. Kane turned his attention back to Rowan and noting her paranoid stance, he'd have missed it had he not known her so well, glanced about the area. “Do you want to go somewhere else to talk?”
