Talon the Scar-Hawk (WIP)

Postby Talon Dahlia on July 29th, 2010, 11:28 pm

...early that morning, there was born a bird...

Basic Information

Name: Talon Dahlia
Race: Kelvic
Birthday & Age : Winter of 504 AV (Appears 18-ish)
Gender: Male

Physical Description

With grave gray hair and delicate features, Talon appears to be the ideal Kelvic boy. Everything about him is proportional, from his head to his toes. Notably, however, his lips are very thin and his teeth are very sharp, but also thin.

His skin is perpetually lightly-tanned and he stands at a meager-for-his-race 6 feet, even. His eyes are an ethereal yellow and they seem to glow in the night. One distinguishing feature to Talon is a singular scar over his left eye. The scar is as black as onyx and contrasts the piercing yellow of his eyes, making this meager boy seem more imposing to a threat.

As a Kelvic, Talon has no preference to wearing clothes, but always does unless presented with a need to shift forms. This brand of near self-consciousness stems from an incident that occurred when Talon was a young child, but he never speaks of it unless thoroughly prompted.

Character Concept

Talon is quiet and reserved and prefers to sit back and analyze the world around him before making any action. He is noted as being insightful and yields to changing events as major shifts in the atmosphere. He believes that every decision, every change that is made in the world affects him, and therefore reacts. He is particularly alert of changing weather and calls it a near-sixth sense as to the climate change before a storm or cataclysm. While his instincts tell him to flee from danger swiftly, he is noble and believes that valor is more important than the ability to flee.

He has keen instincts for natural survival and embraces the ability to serve others with honor and loyalty, but will turn on a master if violently prompted. While the Kelvic blood in him preaches day and night about unconditional loyalty, he refuses to endure physical abuse, stemming from an incident when he was a young boy.

He is highly defensive of his loved ones and will thoughtlessly go to the grave as long as his friends and family are safe.

Character History

In the dark winter of 504 AV, a boy was born to a nameless Lioness Kelvic. He was silent and never cried, but merely stared into everything that he saw.

At age one, his Wolf-Kelvic father led him into the forest to teach him to hunt.

When Talon the Hawk caught a fox and brought it back to his father, he was praised for a job well-done. The two ate the fox under the light of a half-moon and Talon's father pulled the boy close to him by the dim fire.

His father sedated him with a powerful herb and Talon drifted off to sleep.

In the dead of the night, Talon awoke unclothed and throbbing on the inside, unable to move properly due to the herb's potency. His wild eyes darted about, but stopped in complete fear when his father stood over him, dripping with sweat.

His father knelt down over Talon and pulled a molten knife from within the campfire, held the boy down and sliced the skin from his eyebrow to his cheek over his left eye with the glowing orange blade. The man's hand covered Talon's mouth and suppressed his screams as he leaned in and licked the blood from his son's face. Scalding tears followed, but when the father released his son, Talon fought harder against the sedative and shifted into a brilliant Hawk, staggering away in the air to safety.

And the boy never trusted again.

His father disappeared from his life after that night and Talon returned home to an unbelieving mother who refused to buy his story. And though the scar on his face burned day and night and though Talon was filled with hatred for his father, she refused to believe in a broken family.

Even after his father didn't return, she refused the idea.

At age three, Talon was sold into slavery to a cruel human man in a nearby country.

At age four, he escaped and fled for the coast.

Later that year, Talon was trapped in his Hawk form and held as a slave for two years.

And after escaping captivity and stealing a leather bag of supplies from a nearby village, Talon began roaming the wilderness to escape his bad luck.

Thread List

Notes

Life-span: Since a hawk's lifespan is at max 25 years, I figured year would equate to 3 years in human time. (i.e. at 25, he'll be 75) So, at the current time, Talon appears 18-ish.

Talon the Scar-Hawk (WIP)

Postby Talon Dahlia on August 2nd, 2010, 9:41 pm

General Information :
1. What is your Name?
Talon Dahlia
2. Do you go by a nickname or pet name?
My mother once called me Tal...once. Does that count?
3. How old are you?
6 in human years. 18 or so in Hawk years, which is really what matters.
4. What is your height?
6 feet-even.
5. What is your weight?
Around 130.

Aesthetics :
1. Describe yourself as you see yourself.
Pitiful and weak, scrawny and destroyable.
2. Describe yourself as others typically see you.
Slim, attractive, and in need of defending.
3. What is your favorite body feature?
My eyes. I can see in the dark because of them.
4. How physically fit are you?
Not very. I lack muscle in every part but my arms.
5. How do you typically dress and what is your style?
I don't like very high-class clothes. Whatever I have on is good enough for me. I prefer not to wear expensive things in case I forget to take them off before shifting, in which case they rip.

Family :
1. Who are your parents and what are they like?
They are unimportant.
2. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
No.
3. What is your extended family like?
I have no extended family. Though my first master had a daughter who liked to carry me on her shoulder when she went for long walks. And she called me her pet, so I guess she counts. Her name was Emily.
4. Do you consider close friends as important or more/less important than family?
I suppose I'd treat them just as well as family. I'll tell you again once I find a friend.
5. Do you treat animals like family?
Always. Better than family, actually. We're all related, really. In one big circle of eternity. There's no escaping, so we may as well love each other.

Location :
1. Where were you born?
Central Taldera, underneath the largest tree in the forest.
2. Where do you live now?
Nowhere; I'm passing through Sylira now.
3. If you could live anywhere in Mizahar where would that be?
With a kind master in the forests of Taldera. Though, I would have to be free to spread my wings at opportune times.
4. Do you have a favorite place to vacation or spend leisure time?
No, though I have intentionally returned to Sylrias now. I like the idea of a civilization being built on honor and justice.
5. Where do you fear to be?
The spires.

Traits :
1. Do you have any physical weaknesses (disease, scars, and missing limbs?)
I have this scar on my left eye...and I don't like being touched in general, unless I consent. Which, as of yet, I have not...
2. Are you right handed or left handed?
Right!
3. What languages do you speak? What do you sound like? Do you have an accent?
I speak Common, mostly. Though if presented with a nice conversation with a fellow feathered friend, I can speak in bird.
4. Do you have any odd mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
Well, I hate to be dirty. Thus, in my travels I try to stay near a river at all times so I can bathe twice or three times per day. If there's no river nearby, I occasionally spit-bathe. Other than that, I have a short attention-span, but that's not that uncommon...
5. Do you have (or want to get) any tattoos or piercing? Why do you have them (or will get them) ?
I'd be quite afraid to do anything of the sort... Gods know what would happen to a tattoo covered in feathers...

Occupations :
1. What is your occupation?
I travel and occasionally take things that may or may not belong to me in order to make ends meet.
2. Do you like/dislike your work? Why?
I don't mind it as long as I'm not caught. Worst case scenario, I just fly away from trouble and leave my clothes and coins and start all over again. You'd be surprised how often humans are willing to help clothe a naked young man.
3. If you could be anything you wanted to, what would you be?
Myself. I figure there's no wanting something I can never have...
4. What occupation do you admire the most? Why?
I think that being a poet is the most rewarding life there could be. One would just write how they feel and what they see and possibly convey beauty into another soul... And that's wonderful.
5. What occupation do you least like? Why?
Birdkeepers. Need I say more?

Childhood :
1. What sort of child were you?
A quiet child.
2. What is your favorite memory from childhood?
Flying for the first time.
3. What is your worst memory from childhood?
Please, no.
4. What sort of relationship did you have with your parents?
I'd prefer to skip this part of the interview, please.
5. Who was your most influential rolemodel?
An old hawk named Silas. He was kind and brave and gave me these berries that were very rare to our area. And they were delicious.

Education :
1. What sort of education do you have?
My mother taught me how to speak. Someone taught me to hunt.
2. Do you like/dislike learning?
I enjoy learning, yes.
3. Where or how did you learn most of your skills/abilities?
By experience.
4. How do you learn best?
I suppose by experience, considering that's how I learned most of my abilities.
5. What are your educational goals for the future?
I would love to learn to write.

Relationships :
1. Do you form close bonds with people? Why? Why not?
I get attached very easily.
2. Do you trust people easily? If not, why not?
I try to, but it's very, very difficult. And again, please don't ask.
3. Do you consider yourself heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or something else?
I find all living things beautiful, so I suppose bisexual. Though I believe that I'd refuse to love anyone who would treat me badly, so possibly nothing. I just...I don't know.
4. Have you ever been kissed? If so, describe the first time.
Can we please move on?
5. Have you ever had sex? If so, describe the first time.
Really, please...

Drugs and Alcohol :
1. Have you ever been drunk? If so, describe your first time.
My second master gave us slaves only rum to drink at all times. He said it would keep us healthy, but it really just made me delusional and sick. Either way, I don't enjoy the sensation.
2. Do you like to drink on a regular basis?
Not anymore.
3. What sort of alcohol do you prefer?
The non-alcoholic type.
4. Have you ever tried drugs (mood altering substances)? If so, which kinds and what did you think of them?
No, I haven't.
5. What do you think of drugs and alcohol? Be specific.
I just don't like them, really.

2. Do you like to read?
I don't know how to read.
3. What annoys you more than anything else?
Oppressive personalities.
4. What do you find the most relaxing activity to do?
Personally, flying long distances on a high breeze. But as a normal person, I suppose bathing.
5. What kinds of things embarrass you? Why?
When people stare when I am unclothed...because I am more self-conscious than most of my kind. Right. And when I am required to read something and am unable to.

Favorites :
1. What is your favorite color or colors?
Yellow and black.
2. What is your favorite time of day?
Evening.
3. What is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen?
The sight of a female Kelvic transforming into a silver owl. It was glorious.
4. What do you like to eat? What do you hate to eat?
There are these little berries that are pretty rare in my homeland. And they are delicious and sweet. But there's also this bitter berry that looks just like the rare one that is foul and sour.
5. What is your favorite type of weather? Does any kind scare you?
In the clear evenings in the fall when the weather is right between cold and hot...just perfect. And there's a light breeze blowing. It's fantastic.

Outlook :
1. Are you optimistic or pessimistic?
Neither. I just analyze.
2. What are your religious views?
I don't understand religion.
3. Would you be able to kill?
I wouldn't want to be in a position in which I'd have to kill someone or something.
4. What are your views on sex?
It should be used to mate or further a relationship... Only one of which I understand.
5. What, in your opinion, makes a successful life?
Survival and preparing a way for one's children.

Actions :
1. What is the worst and best thing you’ve ever done?
I haven't done much... Though, I suppose stealing from numerous people counts as bad. Maybe. Oh, there was this one time a few months ago. I was starving and in some city further south. I went into the city and stole some food from an open hut near the outskirts of the city. I decided to stay in the territory and found out a bit later that the food that was stolen (by me) belonged to a sick little girl who died that night because she didn't have food to eat. And as for the best, I really haven't done anything good.
2. What is your greatest regret?
The aforementioned doom-thievery.
3. What is your best/worst memory?
I'd rather not answer for the worst. But my best memory, like I said before, was my first time flying.
4. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be and why?
Stop, please.
5. What are you the most proud of doing in your life?
I'm not very proud of myself at all.

2. Do you have any biases or prejudices?
I highly dislike rapi...bad people.

2. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?
I have no one yet.
3. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?
Your relationship questions make little sense to me.
4. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If not, describe an ideal lover.
I do not... Though I imagine that he or she would be kind and loving... And treat me decently unless warranted otherwise. I hope that if I were good to a master, then I would deserve decency.
5. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?
No one yet, but I hope that he or she comes one day.

Group Situations :
1. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?
I lack experience.

I lack experience.

Yes. I am self-conscious.
5. What do you think of others, in general?
I keep a safe distance.

Self Image :
1. What is your greatest strength as a person?
My ability to loathe myself, obviously.
2. What is your greatest weakness?
...my ability to loathe myself.
3. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
My past.
