47th of Spring, 505 AV

The sun was bright in the sky, and the group of five Inarta were chattering happily. Syveris walked after them, making sure she was far enough so they wouldn't bother with her, but close enough so she wouldn't be left behind. The bright sky hurt her eyes a little when they had walked off the Inner Warrens, but now she had already got used to the light, and she looked around, curious.

It was the first time she was leaving Wind Reach, and her heart was bumping into her chest. Of course she had already seen the open sky, both in the Courtyard and through the many openings the mountain had, but she never had actually walked away from the city. The gush of wind played with her long hair and with her skin, and the Yasi instantly found that she liked it. A lot. It was refreshing and calming, and she was even relaxed by the great smell the wind brought. It was soothing.

Syveris returned her attention to the group that walked in front of her. Two women and three children, younger than she was. The Yasi had heard the group talking about going to the Edge of the World, and the talk had picked her curiosity. She had heard of parents bringing their kids to the place, to teach them how to climb. Syveris didn't have parents to do it for her, but she was willing to go on her own. Which was why she was following the Inarta.

It took a while for Them to reach the actual place, but Syveris didn't mind. The arbusts, the path, the sky above... Everything was so beautiful, so wonderful that she didn't even know if she wanted them to arrive at their destination. Even if climbing proved to be a borong activity, she would certainly walk the path to the Edge, if only to enjoy the wind. It seemed to caress her hair once again, and she giggled. It felt great, and she couldn't remember how long it had been since she had felt that relaxed.

An idea popped to her mind, and she smiled. Taking off her shoes, she secured them in her hand, while feeling the ground with her feet. Wonderful. Why would just being outside feel that great? Maybe it was because there, she didn't need to listen to what anyone was saying, there would be no screams and reprimands, no bendi or obligations. She loved Wind Reach, but she hated everyone in there. Except for the Endals and Wind Eagles.

Taking a moment to herself, she closed her eyes, feeling the land beneath her and the gentle wind that rushed around. Calming, soothing. Syveris knew she could just stand there for chimes, and she wouldn't get tired of it. But she couldn't, not if she wanted to actually reach the Edge of the World. She doubted that it could be any better than just being on the outside, but that didn't mean she would just be left behind. Running after the group, Syveris kept walking behind them.

How wrong she had been.

When she reached the place, and the tallest Inarta on the group announced that they had reached the Edge of the World, Syveris looked up, away from the ground and straight ahead. With wide eyes, she accompanied the huge climbing wall, until she was facing the place where rock and sky came together.

Her breath was knocked away from her, and she stared, unable to believe her own eyes. It couldn't be, it just couldn't be that beautiful, that perfect, that imposing. The Edge of the World... The place sure deserved such a name, and her heart ached to see how things would look like from the top. It sure would feel like she ruled the world.

She ran towards the huge wall, staring at it all the time. When she reached it, Syveris released a sigh of amazement, and ran her hand through the holes and imperfections. It felt so different from running her hand on top of the Inner Warrens' rocks, as if the Edge had something on them, something that made it so wonderful, almost... magical. The Yasi didn't have the slightest idea what magic felt like, but she supposed it could be just like this and she wouldn't be surprised at all.

There were two things that made her respect Wind Reach more than any other place in the world. The Wind Eagles and now, this place.

The Yasi kept staring in wonder until something caught her attention. It was the three kids, attempting to climb the wall with all sort of equipment and tools tied around them. Syveris' shoulder fell, defeat running through her body as she noticed that she wouldn't be able to climb the Edge without some help. And there was no one who would be willing to help a Yasi like her, she had learned.

Pouting, she shook her head, unwilling to admit defeat. If there was no one to help her, she would taught herself. Why not? She had been doing it for as long as she could remember, and she didn't see why she shouldn't try it now again.

Taking a few steps back, she looked around, seeing the many Inarta climbing, some without any rope tied on them. Well, it didn't look like it was that hard, after all. Stretching, Syveris returned to the place she had been, clenching her fingers on the rock. She could do it.

The Yasi secured her right foot on a hole near the floor, and pushed upwards. The feeling of not having both feet on the ground, safe, was so unsettling, that she panicked for a moment, and it was enough to make her fall. Thankfully, she fell on her feet, so there hadn't been any damage.

But on that split second she stayed in the air, only with the natural hole to keep her from falling, she had panicked, yes, but there was also something else. A feeling of belonging, a feeling of danger that made her forget everything else for a moment. Gaping at the huge wall, she noticed she had just found something that she would come to love.

Decided, she tried again, this time managing to put her two feet on a hole. Drawing a deep breath, Syveris pushed up once again, her body close to the wall. Then, with wide eyes, she felt her hands slipping, and a second after she was on the ground, air knocked out of her from the impact.

Her back hurt, and she growled. As if she would admit defeat that easily! Getting back on her feet, she tried again. And she fell. It took her three falls on her back for her to stomp on the ground, trying to figure out what she was doing wrong. She looked around once more, trying to learn from watching other climbers. Syveris frowned. She didn't understand what she was doing wrong. After a while, she just shrugged and tried again.

And she fell.

Holding back a scream of frustration, so she wouldn't draw attention to herself, Syveris sat on the ground, watching hard once again. There had to be something. It just had to, she couldn't be falling because of nothing. Watching intensely, she noticed their body positions. It was quite funny, the way they climbed. Maybe it was because of the space between them and the rock.

Realization hit her, hard, and Syveris wondered if she should just knock her head into the wall, for being so stupid. She had been hugging the wall, practically no space between them. It was different from what everyone else had been doing, and so, she decided to try it.

This time, Syveris kept herself a little farther from the wall. She felt ridiculous, but maybe she would be able to climb more than inches. She managed to climb up more, and she smiled to herself, smugly. She had done it, and alone! Well, she had watched others, but she figured out everything alone.

Her left foot slipped, and she threw herself against the rock, heart beating strongly. The Yasi managed to secure herself, but she could feel the sharp rocks cutting through her face and belly, and she winced in pain. Carefully, she made her way back, slipping and falling on her back once again. Syveris cursed, and tried to sit.

She could barely feel her hands, and the cuts on her face and belly were stinging. To make things worse, Syveris could barely move without feeling pain in her back. She was sure it would become purple in the following morning. The Yasi sighed. They would probably think she had been fighting again, not that she really cared for what they thought or didn't. But she wanted to be left alone, and if anyone thought she was in a fight again, she would sure be punished.

Getting up, Syveris winced once again with the pain. Maybe it was time to stop. For now. As she made her way back to Wind Reach, she promised herself that she would come back as soon as her back healed.
