Weaving Dreams Part 3 (Dream)

Time Stamp 90 Fall 513
Laying in her bedroll once more, Taylani sleeps quiet and undisturbed by the night outside. However in her own mind disturbances are common place in the night time hours when all are asleep. Dreams are the landscapes of our hopes and fears, where our mind goes to play out its greatest fantasies, or its darkest nightmares.

All around was fog, a white dense fog that was so thick there was a fear that it would ensnare, entangle. There was no light source but there was light everywhere, bouncing off the white cloud bank that made up the fog. In the distance voices wailed sometimes growing louder, other times growing softer. Taylani was lost, lost and confused, her belly round and extended heavy with child. Her clothing was a simple shift, that fell over her form to her knees, her red hair loose down to her waist far longer than what it usually is, and not decorated by braid. However within the strands beads were interwoven, clacking every time she turned her head to look back and forth trying to find her direction.
How was she supposed to find her way? How was she supposed to decide which path to take? She was so frightened of the voices wailing just behind the fog bank that she almost did not want to move, but she knew she must. No one could stand still here, everything rushes forward whether you wanted them too or not.
Suddenly her mother materialized out of the fog, the familiar red hair, familiar blue eyes looking so kindly that Taylani turned instinctively to her. When her belly became obvious to the older woman Taylani could see the surprised hope fade from the older womans eyes. Replaced by disgust and revulsion, the older woman spits out at her daughter “My daughter is dead. Died the moment she let a barbarian touch her.” Instantly Angelia faded into the fog, leaving Taylani left to cry out against her mother’s words.
Somewhere in Taylani’s mind there was a little part that knew that could not have happened, somewhere logic reasoned that there was no way her mother would have known who the father of her child was. That did not help the heartache at being abandoned by the one person Taylani felt loved her no matter what.
Another voice, one that sounded so much like Fallan though she could not see him began to speak. “See Taylani? I told you, you can never go back. You are Drykas now.” The common flowing from his voice though with no accent penetrated her ears and Taylani fell to her knees. The voices continued to wail around her, and her own voice rose to mingle with theirs.

Taylani thrashed a little in her sleep, moaning until a strong arm settled around her and pulled her back close. Her body settles down, and she enters once more a deeper sleep.

Weaving Dreams Part 3 (Dream)

A murmur is given as one dream passes to a next, from one reality to another seamlessly yet so jarringly different the body has little time to adjust. From fear to joy, from anger to elation the range of emotions would fell a conscious person but in one's subconscious anything is possible...anything is bearable.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The dream shifts, no longer is the fog pressing against all sides of her, though the wail on her lips was still there until Taylani realized that she was in a different place. Instead of crouching to protect herself from the pain of rejection from the one person she had assumed loved her the most, she was crouching over a small fire in the sea of grass. Tears still streaked her face, though the pain already was fading away. Lifting her face from the fire she looked out, and saw a great herd of horses, to the left was a large pavilion backlit by the fires around it, and the starry skies.

"Gramama!" A tiny voice calls out, and Taylani instinctively turns and opens her arms though she is not sure why, until a tiny ball of energy burst into her arms and wrapped his little arms around her neck. That is when Taylani noticed her hands rough from work, wrinkled from age. The loose hair that fell around her shoulders, still beaded though, was solidly gray not a streak of red left.

The boy in her arms backs away and with a green eyed glance he grins up at her having to be at least seven years of age but already a strapping lad with well defined arms and legs from an early age of horse riding and caring for the horses. She could see only a little of herself in his face, but she could see the strong Windchaser features in his jaw, nose and chin.

"Don't be sad Gramama, Granpapa has been given back to the gasses. Mama said that you were sad but don't be okay?" His voice held a sageness that belied his tiny years, and Taylani could not help but smile despite the stab of sudden pain that sliced through her heart and threatened to steal her breath. "Tell me again how Granpapa made you Drykas please Gramama?"

Taylani shifts, realizing that her body now did not move the way it should, it creaked and was stiff, and her eye sight did seem a little dimmer. Yet her arms were strong as she shifted the boy to sit on her lap beside the fire. She didn't know the story the boy was asking her to tell, she didn't even know how she got from being pregnant in a fog to being old and with a grandchild out here in the grasses again. She didn't know so much.

Yet when she opens her lips to tell him that she didn't know, she didn't even know his name, words that were from her voice matured with age but were not words she knew. They were also in clear pavi, her hands moving rapidly as if she had known Pavi her entire life. "Granpapa couldn't make Granmama be Drykas. Even if Granmama was the sort that allowed people to tell her what to do he couldn't just make her. Being Drykas is in one' s heart..and that was something Granmama had to learn. You see Granmama was not always of the Amethyst clan, she was not always even in Endrykas..."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taylani smiles and shifts as the dream fades and leaves her not with the fear and agony but with the deep abiding contentment that knowing a life of happiness gives.
