Let me paint you a picture...

Basic Information

Name: Kikova
Age & Birthday: 125; born 51st day of spring, 385 A.V.
Height: 5'3'
Weight: ~100 pounds
Occupation: Painter and writer; traveler

Physical Description

Kikova is a typical if not petite Konti; she stands at modest five feet and three inches and weighs a mere one hundred pounds, give or take a few pounds. Given her stature, it is no stretch of the imagination that Kikova is possessed of a lithe, almost frail frame. One look at her does not inspire fear or imposition but rather she has an air of unassuming grace and patience. She looks gentle and almost motherly with long, slender limbs. She is very fair, with hair that is as white as freshly fallen snow that tumbles down to below her waist in soft waves and skin fair enough to match. Only her eyes are possessed of any color: a pale, soft shade of mint green lined lightly in a shimmering aquamarine.

Her slender frame is made to look even tinier because she has narrow shoulders, narrow hips, and a tiny waist. She looks as fragile and for the most part, that is not misleading. Kikova, like all Konti, also has scales that spiral and twist from her wrists and ankles and meet in an elaborate knot on her lower back. These scales are as luminescent as pearls but do not sparkle with a colorful sheen, playing only with the soft shades of white. Also, another signature of her race and also religious devotions, Kikova has the embellished Seer’s Lily, the gnosis of Avalis, marked on her left side, right where her breast meets her shoulder.

Character Concept

A gentle and observant person by nature, Kikova received The Call later in life than most Konti women. She is already middle aged, without any children, and now feels the desire to enter the world and see the rest of Mizahar. She has lived a long time in the peace of Mura and now urges to see the world. But more than that, she wishes to paint it and its people and bring these back to Mura so that all can see the splendor of the world. Kikova wishes to remember and help record the records of Mizahar in both paint and word so that it will not be forgotten.

Kikova also feels The Call to go out and see if she can find a mate. She does not feel this urge because she is lonely or wants the affections of a man, but because her arms ache to hold her daughter that has not yet been born. Kikova is not a romantic, having never seen that sort of relationship in depth in her life, but she very urgently wishes to bring forth more of her kind and perpetuate her family. Family is very important to Kikova.

Religion is an enormous part of Kikova’s life and she worships many deities quite regularly. Obviously, she worships the goddess Avalis and the god Laviku, her celestial parents. But she also worships Qalaya and Priskil for what they represent. She finds that memory is one of the most important things and honors Qalaya for protecting it and, by nature, Kikova is an optimistic person and turns to Priskil so the light does not burn out for her. Nysel and Caiyha are also very important to her for a variety of reasons, but a big one is that dreams and nature are significant influences on her art. And out of respect to Priskil and because she is embarking on her own travels, Kikova prays to Aquiras and hopes for his renewed health.

Avalis' Gift: Premonition

Kikova’s gift from Avalis is premonition. She has the ability to see an image from the future; for her it is like looking at a painting: it does not move and does not involve any of the other senses (touch, smell, taste, and sound). It is just an image, a flash for sure, but one that is burned quite heavily on her mind. These premonitions were often related to her own life or the ones that she loved, but occasionally she would see a premonition from the life of someone she had just met, though these were often blurry and obscure. Sometimes the images were more than just a flash, lasting a few seconds and revealing more than just a still painting. It was like observing something in time before the light went out. She did not have much control when these premonitions came but she discovered that after using her divination cards she often got them. Whatever the case, these premonitions always take place in the future, however far that may be.

History

A century and a quarter ago, in mid-spring, a Konti woman brought her first daughter into the world on the sheltered and cloistered island-city of Mura. This was Kikova, who was born with the same soft, mint green eyes of her grandmother as well as the mark of Avalis just above her left breast. Her mother, however, had been one of the few that had not been born with Avalis’ mark but with the mark of Rik’kali. Kikova grew up peacefully with her mother, grandmother, aunt and cousins nearby, not to mention all of her other sister Kontis.

Life on Mura is nearly perfect, or so Kikova believed it to be. There was everything that she needed right there and more to garnish it. Kikova was always a quiet and gentle child, observing the world with her wide, clear mint-green eyes, taking everything in. She loved Mura and loved all of her Konti sisters, often spending long days swimming in the sea or dancing along the shore. She loved to write and read, playing games with her friends where they would take turns writing stanzas in the same poem. Kikova loved to write and was very diligent about keeping a journal, writing in it every day.

But above all, Kikova loved to paint. She would spend hours most days sitting and painting or sketching everything around her. From the sun over the waves, to the walls of Mura, to portraits of her friends and families. She loved how paint swirled and mixed, creating an image of reality from an array of different hues. And how reality could reflect how she felt, as well! She loved the sea, and when she painted the sea, this love could poor out and the affection could almost be seen in the details. She was awed.
