Appearance

Race: Chaktawe
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Birthday: 7th day of Summer 496
Birthplace: Eyktol, The Burning Lands, Kalanue Tribe

Appearance:
Kinoche is dark skinned, constantly tanned and bronzed in the desert sun his eyes black as pitch. He is 5 ''11 and weighs 210 lbs though he appears much thinner than that as much of his weight is in his extra water bearing organ. Kinoche's face is etched with the slow sanding of the desert appearing quite harsh and beaten upon. Despite this Kinoche is often seen smiling when the effort would not clog his mouth with sand and this effect seems grander still as he often stands tall and proud among his people, the Kalanue. Kinoche's hair is black like the raven that guides all Chaktawe, this hair is long and remained uncut until the day he completed the searching at which point he cut some of it, keeping it relatively long for a male.

Character Concept

Kinoche knows the desert as all his people do. The desert is harsh, but even so one can make life from it if it only listens and lives in harmony. This attitude he bears with all peoples though unfortunately in order to survive his people find themselves in conflict with the goat people to their south. Even so Kinoche only sees a future where people find peace and learn to live among each other, but more importantly learn to live in their land. For the world is not a forgiving place, it demands work and sacrifice and that work can only be done if all peoples work in tandem and in harmony.

The Raven and the River are sacred to Kinoche, as they are all Chaktawe. Water is life in it's purest form and can do no evil, while the raven is a clever representation of life, a being of infinite wisdom who can always be called upon to provide guidance so long as the one who asks has utmost trust in the direction. Those who would defile water are the worst kind of life and even the harmonious Kinoche would be hard pressed not to harm them if he found one to be responsible for defiling a water source.

It is Kinoche's hope to live in peace and to learn more about all people as he travels the world searching for the elusive harmony which past the foreboding fear of existence, permeates all beings, creatures, and lives. It is his greatest belief that all can be good, even a desert demanding as it is can flower beautifully.

Character History

Kinoche was born on the trek to another hunting location, his mother barely crying out as he exited her womb to join the world as yet another harmonious speck amongst the vast multitude. He was cut loose and held and cared for by his mother and his whole tribe, the Kalanue. His father was named Nau so he was known as Naupar until his fifth year of life.

Soon he walked among the tribe, his small legs barely keeping up with the quick relentless steps of his ever moving people. None helped him besides to give an occasional encouraging word. At first Kinoche struggled to match the pace of his quick stepping people and feared falling behind to be food for the jackals always on the horizon following to pick up the scraps his people occasionally left behind. However as he moved he found his legs had strength he did not know and his chest took in heavy breath after heavy breath to filling his lungs with the hot air of the windy desert. Gusts of sand attempted to cloud his vision, but he merely closed his first set of eyelids, following the blurs of his ever moving people amidst the terrible biting winds. At days end he drunk deep from a spring an elder found, knowing many days lay ahead and each day would bring new challenges, but also new strength.

As Kinoche grew he found he loved to tell stories, not just retell the stories his elders were always happy to dispense, but to develop his wild imagination into whatever adventures he could conjure. His mother said he wagged his tongue so much a raven might pluck it thinking it a worm, but Kinoche merely took that as a compliment and spoke on.

When not marching, Kinoche joined the bands of goat thieves who entered the Benshira's range. His first attempt at getting a goat nearly ended him as he chased the hardy beast with such fervor and focus it took a minute of shouting before he realized he was nearly inside a Benshira tent camp, turning about as horns were sounded Kinoche barely made it out alive, from then on he attempted to be more careful, trying to note his surroundings and how they might change even in the relatively uniform desert.

As Kinoche grew into a man, he found he had one more hurdle to complete before he was a true member of the tribe. He must complete, the searching.

Awaking one night to drum beats he emerged from his families tent to find them looking upon him among many other members of the tribe. In the darkness he did not recognize all their faces as they were painted in a pure black that matched their dark eyes. A young girl from the tribe danced around him with a smoking stick. This girl danced a smoke ring about Kinoche as he looked from face to face, all looking through him rather than at him, except for one, the face of the Wayhali.

Kinoche felt something tied into his hair and noted the girl with the smoking stick dancing off as he looked up to see a streak of black, the feather of a raven. Then the Wayhali spoke,

"We are with you in the raven, in our gods, in our wisdom. When you leave us, you take us. When you walk alone we follow. So take no path that would turn you from honor. For when you turn aside, we all do."

At this moment Kinoche's father walked forward, looking past Kinoche into the distance as he uttered his question in a stern unflinching tone,

"What do you seek? What do you bring to your searching?"

Kinoche knew to think on this, to hesitate, would undoubtedly besmirch the truth, thus he spoke without thought allowing what spirits may be to flow through him in purest form,

"Harmony,"

With this the circle was broken and Kinoche felt a pull into the darkness of the desert, so he walked a walk without end until the sun did rise and even then did he walk on until he felt something, a rush, a current. Digging down deep for many minutes, the dry hot sand was soon replaced with wet sopping mud, then cool water. Parched, Kinoche drank deeply, thanking Makutsi for this life and Eywaat for guiding him on this path.

Sated for a moment Kinoche sat upon a mound above the water and felt no reason to stir. Sitting in perfect stillness as harsh day became frigid night, the Chaktawe awaited something he was not sure of, his eyes not closing for fear of missing it. As he sat many beasts approached him though they did not seem to see him, instead merely drinking the water past him.

First came the desert cow in a group of six, all wandering with aim past the unmoving Kinoche to drink their fill before wandering into the distance. Then came the Jackal in a group of five again all walking past the unblinking Chaktawe to drink their fill before leaving. Then came the sky dogs in a pack of four to drink their fill, not noting the still Kinoche before leaving. Then the golden wolves, a mere three not even taking a moment to sniff the unwavering Kinoche before drinking till their thirst was no more and departing.

Night fell and there were long hours of silence, then a long growl followed by another. To sharp eyes appeared then a second pair as two Baral lumbered towards Kinoche, still the chaktawe was still as stone and after a moments staring, the large predators walked past to take their drink before departing. The sun rose slowly and Kinoche felt a great hunger, as this feeling came a goat wandered toward the spring, desiring greatly to pounce upon this beast to eat him, Kinoche wished to move, but remembering that his stillness had spared him the predation of many a beast, he instead was still. The goat drank his fill then instead of leaving turned to Kinoche and spoke, imparting great words of wisdom the Chaktawe would carry with him all the way back to his village.

As he walked back he noted the camp had moved, calling to Eywaat he continued on his journey only to find a raven soar above him, slowly this clever bird guided him and after a days march he found not his people, but an oasis where a beautiful desertbred horse drank deeply. Kinoche approached the majestic beast slowly, when he came it lowered it's neck to him and without a thought he lifted upon it bareback and began to ride, always in the shadow of the raven.

Far to the north sand faded into scrub and then scrub into thick grass until Kinoche found himself surrounded by other horses and the people who rode upon them bearing fierce tattoos. He was swiftly surrounded and for a moment the raven left him, but the Chaktawe remembered his quest and so speaking calmly he asked if he might ride with them.

Two days ride across the winding arcing paths of the grasslands and the Chaktawe found a place much like home, Endyrkas. There he was among the Drykas and many other peoples, constantly on the move he sought to learn more of this new land and people. For a brevity he felt he had betrayed his people by leaving them, but the raven led him there, thus he would be a servant of Eywaat in all things.
