[Cobalt Mountains] Tracking isn't Hard!

Postby Sei Tendo on September 25th, 2013, 2:45 pm

Sei scurried down the path his smile never fading as he looked back to find Jikadyn taking slow steps toward him. He slowed to a jog, and avoided little twigs. He stopped and walked toward Jikadyn. After passing him, he whispered into his ear. "You gotta touch me to end this part of the lesson." He taunted, breaking into a sprint away from Jikadyn.

He closed put a gap between them, and when Jikadyn was almost to far away to see, he began to walk. He took out his dagger, and shifted to press himself against a tree. He would have transformed, but this would only confuse Jikadyn. He was still pressed against the tree, and decided to see how good at tracking Jikadyn really was. He latched onto a tree branch, and lifted hmself onto the tree, and began to tree-hop.

[Cobalt Mountains] Tracking isn't Hard!

Postby Jikadyn on September 27th, 2013, 7:13 pm

Jikadyn listen as he heard steps approach him. Then he heard a whisper the sound and smell meant it was Sei for sure. He heard Sei say something about touching him to end this lesson. Touching him though would require he be able to move swiftly, and without sight he wasn't sure that would be a good idea. Of course, one could say you can smell the tress and flowers, but you cannot smell the roots and the dead trees. This became rather puzzling to him. Could he truly run through the forest without tripping and falling on his face constantly.

Deciding that there was no harm in a few bruises or cuts from falling. Jikadyn booked it through the woods. Following the scent he had it memorized now. The kelvic man could not out escape his nose now that's for sure, but catching him was a whole different matter.

As he ran he could feel the wind brushing against his face. It felt wonderful. To feel the cool crisp air gracing his face in such a manner. It was one of the things Jikadyn would never give up. Though the smell of dirt was fresh on his face as he had only fallen about a dozen times or so. In the process of trying to catch this man. His clothes and face showed the amount of trips his body took to the earth by their shear dirtiness. Though it was of no concern to Jikadyn he had prey to find in a sense.

Suddenly he noticed a shift in where Sei scent was coming from. At first it was just coming from the direction he was moving, and for a second he thought the Kelvic man had stopped as the scent had gotten stronger, but then it started to fade away. Now that it was back Jikadyn wasn't sure where the scent was coming. Was it coming from above him. He was focusing on listen when he could hear the leaves of trees rustling in the direction the scent had been coming from. "Is he really in the trees" the words slipped from Jikadyns mouth as he pressed onward in what he had hoped was the right direction.

Sei jumped to the ground with a large thud, and bounded deeper into the woods. If Jikadyn knew any better, he would have smelled that the bear was getting closer as well. Sei had his dagger strapped to his leg, but Jikadyn hadn't brought anything to defend himself. Sei stopped briefly, and realized Jikadyn had began to run. Occasionally, Jikadyn would fall, and push himself to his feet. But Sei had no intention of being caught, and speed up as well.

So he was surprised when he turned and tripped. He hit the dirt, and pushed his arms out in front of him. He caught himself and pushed to his feet. He sidestepped, hopefully having Jikadyn run past him, and stood there.

[Cobalt Mountains] Tracking isn't Hard!

Postby Jikadyn on September 29th, 2013, 11:54 pm

Jikadyn was getting the hang of running without sight. The trips taken to grace the earth with his pressence became less and less frenquent. It was becoming more and more fun. The longer he seemed to do this more entertaining it got. It was an interesting challenge and yet was unique in its mindset.

Then Jikadyn noticed two scents were very close. First he instantly recognized as Sei's. After he had been chasing this mans scent the whole time. He could pick it up now even within the crowds of Syliras, but the second one he had forgotten yet for some reason remember the pugnet foul smell.

As he flew past the Kelvic man he remembered that there was another beast in the area. One that he was supposed to be avoiding and watching out for. The bears smell. That's what he was smelling and it was rather strong. He could tell the beast was exetremely close, but Sei was even closer.

Sei smell was now coming from behind him, but he wasn't far off. In fact it would seem as though Jikadyn had just barely passed the man. Turning around quickly he ran after the Kelvic man reaching his hand out. He managed to just barely brush his hand against the mans back as he was running from Jikadyn.

Then he tripped on a root. 'Of all the times to trip it had to be now. Right when I am about to catch this man.' The thought angered Jikadyn. He had done so well, and now he was tumbling forward.

The trip though seemed to aid him more than to stop him. As he tripped he shot forward in a tumbled. Taking out Sei on his way down, and landing on top of him.

Standing Jikadyn brushed himself off and removed the blindfold. A large smile spread from ear to ear was on his face. He reached his hand down to the Kelvic to aid him up. "Sorry, about that." he burst into laughter after apologizing to Sei. "So how did I do?" Jikadyn was interested to know how well he had down in Sei's eyes.

There was a thud, and Sei felt something heavy force him to the ground. Jikadyn had tripped, and had taken Sei with him. Sei disliked the landing, and rubbed the dirt off his clothes after taking a stand. "Great job." He said. He removed Jikadyn's blindfold, and looked at the tracker-in-training. Jikadyn had done well, and Sei couldn't help but smile.

"So I'm guessing you've noticed the bear is close, right?"

[Cobalt Mountains] Tracking isn't Hard!

Sei spoke to Jikadyn. Mentioning the closeness of the beast that had earlier been mentioned. Jikadyn had no way of knowing the exact distance of the beast, but he could tell that it was rather close to his position. Well at least closer than it was the previous time he had smelt the animal.

"Yes, it uh smells a lot stronger. I assume that must mean it is rather close by."
Jikadyn spoke with a hint of unsureness to his words. After all he didn't know how to track until just learning earlier this morning. How would he be expected to know the exact distance of the beast.

"So what is next on our agenda." Jikadyn asked. Wondering what the Kelvic man would have in store for him to finish off the day. He was curious after the game of tag they just played.

"Great." Sei said proudly. It was true Sei wasn't the best teacher, but so far Jikadyn had been able to keep up, so he guessed it was fine. He looked up at Jikadyn, and remembered his agenda. "Now. For this test, I'll be giving you an assignment. I want you to lead me to the bear." He said, putting a hand on Jikadyn's shoulder. He wanted Jikadyn to be ready, and he'd take care of the rest. He lifted his hand and looked Jikadyn over. It was hard to tell wether he was a fun person, or a boring person, and so far, he couldn't tell.

"Are you up for it?"

[Cobalt Mountains] Tracking isn't Hard!

"! don't see an issue. As long as I don't get eaten I think this should be fine." Jikadyn said as he readied himself for the test at hand. After all, the smell of the bear was very different from that of him or Sei, but there was also a sense of hesitation. Simply due to the fact that he had to lead a man to the bear. How close he had to get wasn't even mention. Not to mention the bear noticing them.

"Are we going to use the blindfold again, or just normal this time?" Wandering how Sei planned to have track the beast. Sei may have had a completely different idea on how to track the beast altogether, but Jikadyn was ready to accept the challenge. If it would help him learn than he would do it without questioning it. There's power in knowledge after all.

Looking over at the other Kelvic he smiled one last time. "Oh by the way what is your animal side if you don't mind my asking?" Jikadyn had just remembered he had never seen or heard the man mention what his animal side was. He knew was something in the cat variety due to the eyes, but that was the best he could guess.

Sei turned back to Jikadyn with a proud grin. He stepped back, and looked around. "Well, seeing as the bear could be a bit of a dangerous animal, I'll let you go without the blindfold." He said, his features reeked of joy. He turned back to Jikadyn and smiled. "You've done great so far. My only thought is that maybe I should transform."

SHaking his head he turned to Jikadyn. "I'll be following you. If you go the wrong way, I'm not gonna tell you, so if we get lost your responsible."

XP Award!

Sei Tendo:

XP Award:
  • +1 running
  • +1 observation
  • +1 rhetoric
  • +2 teaching
  • +1 stealth

Lore:
  • Jikadyn: smells of fear.
  • Jikadyn: Needs to learn names of the animals tracking.
  • Teaching: Off the cuff harder than it seems

Notes:Whenever I read your name I always read it as Nintendo. I can’t help it lol. That being said I just wanted to askyou’re your second post you talk of Jikadyn’s Aura yet you have no skill in Auristics. I didn’t give you any points in auristics because of that. Was you just talking about the “air” about him, that a predator might smell in a prey animal?
Another side note, It was very dangerous to blindfold a beginner and turn him loose in the wild. Which if you had any skill points in teaching I would have been all ‘wow at his endangering his student’ however since your character didn’t have any teaching skills it was easy to pass off as an Ooops. Just remember that in future lessons Sei will be expected to have grown in his teaching :D
These are comments.

Jikadyn:

XP Award:
  • +2 running
  • +2 observation
  • +1 rhetoric
  • +3 tracking

Lore:
  • Sei Tendo: Harsh and abrasive
  • Tracking: First step is identifying
  • Tracking: Sometimes prey can’t be tracked by prints alone.
Notes:You did a good job rping within your skill level in tracking. Just remember though you can spell roots and dead trees..especially if you have heightened sense of smell from an animal (not sure how good an Elk’s sense of smell is but I do know it is better then a human’s). The smell of dead trees is cloying and heavy with the smell of decay and just a moist smell. Roots smell different from tree to tree…yes..I know what roots smell like lol. I spent a lot of time in the forest in Kientucky lol. These are comments.
