How he Looks, Acts, Lives.

Appearance
Wingard’s human form may be smaller than his animal one, but it is still rather impressive. Standing at six feet, the young Kelvic appears to be a fully-developed man of mid-twenties. His arms, like his wings, are incredibly powerful and his lean, muscular form is not something one wishes to underestimate. Regardless of his disinclination for physical confrontation, Wingard attempts to portray an intimidating figure in order to avoid coercion and needling. Considering his eyes are identical to the ones he possesses when diving through the skies as a Wind Eagle, they often assist with the façade he attempts to put forth. Always calculating and sharp, Windgard is constantly aware of his surroundings, watching carefully with his enhanced eye sight.

His features also hint at his Accipitridae background as they are sharp and angular in origin. Luckily for his vanity, he does not have a beak-like nose, but his cheek bones and jaw line are incredibly distinctive upon his face. The hair on top of his head is a multitude of russet oranges and reds, appearing strawberry blonde underneath the rays of the sun. Generally, it is shaved on the sides so that the longer length on the top falls sloppily into his eyes and face, thus obscuring his features, but the easily-windswept locks are in good condition. On the right side of Wingard’s head, however, there are tiny, contour feathers that seem to grow from his skin and cover a section of his skull. Due to the fact that they are merely a shade darker than his hair, they blend in almost perfectly, thus making them hard to see.

As a Wind Eagle, Wingard is past his fledgling stage as he sits around the age of eight. He is rather large in size, his wing-span amassing a respectable thirty-seven feet. In colour, his feathers resemble his human hair and take on many shades of russet, but mayhap a few shades darker. His belly and body are toasted chestnut and as they grow closer to his head, they lighten until a Coppery Clay colour. His beak and scaly feet are tinged yellow with wickedly curved talons decorating his toes. His eyes are golden and large, the pupils big in order to spot his targets at a great distance. Overall, Wingard is a rather attractive bird.

Personality
Wingard’s first and foremost love is flying. The elation that one receives with the wind passing through his feathers or catching a thermal in order to soar high above the rest is not a feeling that he can describe in the Common Language. This existence in the air is what he lives for and the idea of ever being grounded is a frightful one. He fears the concept of being caged, and thus it is ironic that he is forever tied to Wind Reach. In some ways, his human side hates the idea that he will never be able to see the rest of the world, as he knows that his knowledge is nothing compared to the vast wealth of wisdom abroad, but Wingard loves his colony and would do anything to protect his fellow raptures.

Sometimes though, while he sits in his aerie alone, he wonders what it would be like to travel and contemplates what the concept of freedom really is. Yes, he’s a forward thinker, and if there is anything that could compete with his adoration for flight, it would his hunger for knowledge and education. The Kelvic continually strives to know more and thus, he can often be found in his human form sitting around populated areas watching and listening. He finds the study of people utterly fascinating, and enjoys witnessing the flaws of humanity, as well as their conquests.

This ability and need to constantly observe his neighbours generally leads to a poor conversationalist in Wingard. Much preferring to remain on the sidelines, he avoids the center of attention like it is the plague and stands more frequently in the shadows than what is probably necessary. This is not to say that he dislikes people or can’t communicate, but it is more rather that he prefers intelligent conversation and does not know how to curb his tongue in sensitive situations. For example, when one needs to be delicate around the death of a family member, the looks of a lady, or the self-pitying fools around him, Wingard has a tendency to respond in an insensitive manner that can often get him into trouble. He’s very dry-humoured and sarcastic as an individual and deems it incredibly important to point out the flaws of all those around him when necessary.

Thus, why he just tries to avoid most conversation altogether.

He can be charming when he wants to be, but that only occurs when he is in the companionship of those he deems worthy. These people, or Eagles, are those that he finds intellectually stimulating, or even merely interesting because of their nature. He’s very loyal to those he trusts, like any good person, but he is not one to feel at a loss when he loses those special people in his life. He sees each person as an opportunity to grow, and when they are gone, or become a hindrance, Wingard easily says goodbye; this is part of his flighty nature.

Overall, he can be rather selfish and cynical when it comes to the world, but he does yearn for a bond mate and it worries him that he has not found one yet.

Housing
Wingard occupies an Aerie near the upper corner of the Aeries. His home is off to the side, making it a rather long trek to come and visit on foot, however, it houses lovely bathing facilities, a futon, desk, chair, and a spectacular view of the Unforgiving.

The History and Knowledge.

History
Wingard was lucky enough to be borne in a neighbouring land of Wind Reach. His parents, a seagull and fox Kelvic, had both been living in Wind Reach due to his father working as a glassmaker there, which made his transition into the Wind Eagle colony easier than say, if he had had to travel there. As a child, he knew right away what an honour it was that had been bestowed upon him to be such a majestic animal and he treasured his ability closely to his chest.

Unlike his mother, who adored living her life as her animal and travelled the world because of it, his father preferred a settled lifestyle and stayed near his homeland for the entirety of his life. These opposing parental values often confused the young Kelvic, but he treasured each of their lessons equally and tried to retain each one. His mother, who was bound to a fisherman, occasionally returned with stories of the lands around them and often when she was allowed, would take him on aerial flights of their home so that he could view the world as she saw it so beautifully. It was because of his mother that Wingard wishes that he could see the lands of Mizahar like she did.

His father, albeit less maternal, primarily took care of him and instilled the values of morality into him through the selling of his wares. Being bonded to an artisan glass-maker as well, his father and bond mate worked seamlessly together in a unity that to this day, makes Wingard wish for his own bond. As his father grew up in Wind Reach, when he felt like his son was ready, which was around the age of 5, he bestowed upon him his own Talon Sword; a blade that his father had wielded previously. Knowing that his son’s transformation was a formidable fighter, he hoped that he could also embody that in his human form as well. So, Wingard practices whenever he can with his father’s gift in order to better himself and make his father proud.

Wingard primarily grew up in his human form, as he liked staying with his father, but as his age neared towards 4 years old, he knew his fledgling side was ready to fly out of his patron’s nest to embark on his own adventure. Thus, he said goodbye to his parents and readied himself for his journey to the aeries so that he could claim one for his own. Having taken flight daily in order to familiarize himself with his colony, Wingard was not lost to the ins and out of his brethren and quickly found a place of his own. Having settled in, he was incredibly excited about meeting his bond mate, only to realize quickly that something was just not right.

He had chosen an aerie that was height-wise, in the middle of the pack, but off on its own to the side, and it seemed that many villagers didn’t see the appeal in visiting and wooing him. There were a few that attempted, but something about them, rubbed Wingard the wrong way and he immediately shunned their attention. Yes, he could have been considered too picky, but Wingard as a Kelvic, and now as a Wind Eagle, knew the importance of a bond and this one, would be even more significant as both sides of him needed and craved a connection.

As a Kelvic child however, Wingard not only had to adapt to the time frame of a Wind Eagle, but he also had to continue with his Yasi training as well. Being a bird of prey, Wingard focused the majority of his training on hunting, knowing that it would be the easiest way for him to earn his way into the Avora caste, while still providing successfully for his city. Training as a Yasi was not the easiest thing he had ever done as a human, and he easily bettered his skills because of his keen abilities as an Eagle. Often, he would soar above the Twin Lakes, circling and circling, before diving into the waters and retrieving fish. The lakes were his practice ground as he grew, and it was the perfect way for him to perfect his technique as a bird.

As he continued to progress through his Yasi stages, he was finally claimed as an apprentice due to his capabilities as a Kelvic. Unable to hide his joy over making it into the same class as his father, Wingard is happy to leave his Yasi days behind him. Being an Avora was just another distraction from the fact that he has yet to find his mate.

During the time of being unbound, Wingard slowly began to mature on his own, realizing somewhat bitterly, that he had idealized the process in his head and that it was not as wonderful as he thought it was meant to be. With that in mind, Wingard decided to stop outwardly looking for a partner and instead yearned deeply inwardly. He portrayed a scholarly self that was somewhat cynical, focusing more of his attention on his studies and hunting in order to climb through the caste system.

It has been five years and two seasons since he took his place at the aerie, and he still waits there, coming down to Wind Reach in his human form to study and train, only to return to his empty cavern and wish, that hopefully things will soon change.
