Lacriox Appearance Race: Human Gender: Male Age: 26 Birthday: 70, Fall, 492 AV Birthplace: Avanthal Appearance: Lacriox, although being human, strongly resembles the Vantha he was raised with in Avanthal. His tall, slender stature fits the word "Efficient" in that he is not extremely burly, but his height and size make him titanic enough to perform basic physical feats with ease. He characteristically wears his hooded cloak or other forms of facial coverage when not in company of close friends, but underneath, his short, dark, wavy hair is well-groomed and out of his light brown eyes. His rugged facial features and defined jawbone are artifacts of the harsh conditions of Aventhal. Character History Exile. Not just a word, but a way of life for Lacriox. The status quo since day 1. He was found nearly frozen to death as an infant in a snowbank near the outskirts of Aventhal by the Icewatch on a routine perimeter patrol. Through the best efforts of the Whitevine, he was healed, mostly. He kept his limbs, but the cold had permanently numbed his body. His human origin was discovered by his persistant eye color, but With winter coming, there was no feasible way of transporting a fragile non-Vantha infant through Aventhal to another land more suited for the less cold-resistant human. He was given the name Criox Whitevine even though he did not belong to the Whitevine hold through Vantha birthrite and was allowed temporary quarter within their house because no other options presented themselves. Being non-Vantha and unable to bear the biting cold, Criox was left isolated inside a single well-insulated room for the majority of his upbringing. He was often teased for his human eyes and their inability to change color with mood, and for his constant numbness. Many often joked that Criox "had no feelings". When he was needed for emergency situations, instead of arming him for combat or dressing him in warm clothing, he was given a shield to "block the cold". To pass time, Criox would do his best to overhear or sneak into medical lessons by the Whitevine hold. He was eventually discovered, and was to be sent back to his room when Seffarah Whitevine challenged him to test his ability in healing, since he was so keen on taking lessons that were not meant for him. He proved to be adept, performing healing that rivaled magic-users that bore Gnosis marks from Rak'keli, without using any form of magic, although he did not gain the favor of Rak'keli. Rather, Rak'keli felt quite insulted that Criox had used such a sneaky way to steal teachings from her followers, and even though she was generous with her power, disliked the all-too-familiar sneakiness in Criox that she had seen in those that seek to undermine her power. This outward disapproval of Criox left him ashamed and ostracized from the majority of the Whitevine hold who worshipped Rak'keli. Teasings, rumors, and exclusion continued as Criox grew into adulthood until a story was fabricated that Criox sought to eliminate the Whitevine hold, and he was led out out deep into the alphine surrounding Aventhal on a "secret urgent matter" by Vantha escorts riding dire polar bears. Once they were far into the deep dark wintery woods, the escorts turned and fled, leaving Criox alone with his shield and his belongings. He fled, froze, and fought through the icy tundra, surviving on human resilience alone. Resilience, and his trusty shield. Upon spotting a trail, he followed it until coming upon a leather and fur shipping caravan. Hitching a ride, he set off for a new life at the caravan's destination, Syliras. Criox dropped his surname of Whitevine and became Lacriox to cut ties with the Vantha that abandoned him. He does not however harbor any hatred toward Rak'keli nor Vantha. Character Concept Lacriox is a protector and a thoughtful man. His upbringing involved the world he knew and its God being sided against him, and he feels no one who is good at heart should have to stand alone. He wouldn't have survived the literal cold and pain of his childhood without his beloved shield, and does what he can to be a figurative shield for others. He believes in mercy over justice, and ambivalence over bias. Instead of taking an non-participant position to disputes, religion, and politics, he actively acts neutrally. Lacriox is a pacifist in habit, believing that no matter how many people say how bad a person is, they could all be wrong. He fights without a weapon, choosing to instead subdue attackers with his shield or his bare hands at the risk of his own life in order to fight as non-lethally as possible. His goal in life is to create an ideal, peaceful world free of hatred or war. It's a tall order, but not taller than his shield is.
