Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Port] The Wharfside Life

Postby Tyne Brightcrest on July 8th, 2014, 11:14 pm

7th Day of Summer, 514A.V.

Tyne's brow shone with sweat and his callused hands were stained dark with grime. The sailor had just spent the early morning diving down below the waterline and inspecting his keel for barnacle and rot. After chipped away at a few crustaceans with his knife, Tyne hauled his sun baked form out of the Riverfall Port water and rubbed the muck away on his trousers. The Svefra was shirtless in the summer heat and his chest was bare save for the bead and shell necklace he had come to associate closely with his nautical luck, and of course his mark. The watery blessing of Laviku splashed across the left side of his chest and up to his shoulder. If one peered closely in the summer sun, they could see the waves moving.

Tyne decided that before he continue his search for cargo, an endeavor that had thus far been met with no success, he would dry on Splendor's prow. Tyne sat with bare feet dangling over the water and flute in hand. As he played with nimble hands, he realized that they weren't as nimble as he might have thought. His notes were soft and soothing by their nature, coming from a wooden flute, but lacked a rhythm or melody. He stared, disgruntled, at the instrument.

He had told himself it would be a good task, to teach himself to play the thing. It would be a good diversion from the loneliness that sometimes plagued a singular sailor in the harsh bosom of the Suvan. The disjointed sounds, no matter how they may come to him in his mind, were not music.

As he sat and contemplated how to transform sound into music, the Svefra spotted something black cross his vision. The already unsettled water of the active port was left with tiny ripples across it's surface. A footprint in the water, gone before it could be appreciated. Tyne stared intently into the water for moments, his blue eyes reflecting the greenish blue sea below him. Then he heard a soft thud against the starboard hull of Splendor.

The Svefra's whiskered face broke into a grin and he set down his flute and slid back into the water. Slipping below the surface, Tyne Brightcrest squinted into the depths of the rather shallow water. Just on the other side of Splendor's shadow, silhouetted in the watery light from the sun, was a shark. She was just under five foot and had an inky black tip to her dorsal. Tyne grinned underwater as the shark made a turn and swam directly towards him. He held his breath long enough for her to bump into his leg and then surfaced. The Svefra laughed jovially, Sela had returned from a three day solo adventure. She often did this in new ports, when Tyne would spend hours and hours away on shore.

The shark had been his companion for years, and a loyal friend. Tyne ran his rough fingers across her back as she slid across the surface of the water again. "My beautiful lady has returned, eh?" He asked in Fratava. They swam together next to the wharf for a long while, just two of Laviku's creatures enjoying their morning.
