Lariza

Appearance

Race: Charoda
Gender: female
Age: 16
Birthday: the 58th day of spring in 498 AV
Birthplace: Charbosi

Appearance:

Lariza is a rather slender Charoda female with pale blue skin. She is a little taller than most others of her race, but not among the tallest. Two long fins point from the back of her head behind her, looking a little like giant ears in the form of frog feet: Four dark blue “fingers” sprout roughly 10 inches behind her between which large webbings are spanned in the same colour as her skin. The rest of her head is bald of any fins or tentacles. Her ears are small with three pointy ends, the lower two being rather short and hard to notice, but the highest one almost sticks four inches behind her. Her nose is diminutive and inconspicuous as it is usual for Charodae, which can be said about most of her facial Features: She is pretty, but more of a subtle Beauty, and doesn't stick out from the lot of her kin. The colour of her eyes is a little more vibrant than her skin's, making them shine slightly in her pale face. Like all Charodae she has three rows of small sharp teeth in her mouth, though she was born with several irregular gaps in the middle one. Aside from that she has all the characteristic traits of her race, from the webbing between fingers and toes to the smooth rubbery skin.

Character Concept

She is a cheerful girl with a very positive and optimistic attitude. One will only rarely find her without a smile on her face, and her chortles are frequently resonating in the water around her. She always tries to see the best in people and situations, no matter how dire something seems or how cruel someone acts towards her. Her ever-sprouting fountain of joy only rarely comes to a halt. When she does get upset she quickly turns into a fountain of tears though that is very hard to stop.

One would think such a cheerful girl surrounded herself with friends. But she is actually rather shy, even a bit introverted, so her circle of friends is rather small. The friends she does have are very important to her however, and she holds them dearly in her heart. Considering the rather free-spirited and open-minded nature of her race Lariza is also surprisingly prudent. She quickly gets flustered when the topic changes towards anything intimate, and is very shy at forming deeper relationships with other people.

Though a little constricted in her sexual thoughts Lariza has a very creative spirit. She is constantly searching for inspiration to create coral sculptures, her art style being rather abstract. Aside from having a good sense for colours and shapes she is quite talented at coral manipulation. She is still young and unexperienced, so her works can’t match those of more prominent artists, but with her talent, determination and creativity she is bound to become one of the greatest coral artists of her time one day. Additionally she has a very pleasant voice even for Charodae, making her a natural singer.

While she is far away from being dumb she also isn’t quite what one would call intelligent: Though curious and a good listener who always wants to learn things she has some trouble understanding more complex and complicated matters. Also she gets easily excited, and despite her shyness can be a little too trusting in her attempt to always see the best in people, leading her to be a bit naïve and sometimes see things that simply aren’t there. These traits and the habit of acting on impulse before thoroughly thinking things through can often leave the impression she is an air-head, although, as already mentioned, she isn’t really stupid.

Character History

Lariza was picked from the communal coral pouch raised by a group of five female Charodae artists. Her childhood was rather ordinary: She went to school and played with other children, and though she only made few friends due to her shyness she never felt alone thanks to the ones she had and her parents. The intimate and intense same-sexual relation between her five mothers may have been what caused her to become relative closed up in terms of sexual interaction. What she did inherit from them however was their love of art and beauty, of colours and creation. As logn as she could remember Lariza was fascinated by the talent of her race to manipulate corals and shape beautiful sculptures out of them. She constantly watched and learned from her parents, always aiming to become a great artist herself one day.

Her mothers supported her wherever they could, teaching her what they knew about art and allowing her to help with their sculptures (even if it meant some of them got a little messed up). Also realising Lariza had a naturally soothing voice even for the standards of a Charoda they helped her train it from a very early age on. While her parents always did their best to help and support Lariza they may have been a little too well-meaning in their efforts though: Lariza never had to scavenge for food and materials or had to do chores at home, and her mothers always gave her what she wanted. There actually seemed to be a little bit of a competition between the five of them who coudl raise her the best. As a result Lariza alwas got what she wanted and never had to face any hardships in life, only vaguely recognizing the dangers of the world around her through the teachings at school.

Years passed. Little Lariza grew up into a teenager, a pretty calm and peaceful one – probably since it didn’t really make sense to become a rebel in the rather liberal household of her parents who always gave her anything she wanted. However, as she got older and became more aware of how they always protected and spoiled her Lariza began to grow a little bored of her life. A feeling of monotony overcame her. This created an urge inside the timid girl to break out and drastically change her life, and as time passed this urge slowly manifested itself in the wish to leave Charbosi and explore the open sea. A few weeks after her 16th birthday she eventually decided to start her journey to find herself, her place in the world and new sources of inspiration.

Though sad to see her leave her mothers were proud to have raised a daughter who was not shy to go and see the world with her own eyes. To not feel too alone they gave her a pet octopus, Akin. These animals are bred by the Charodae especially as travel companions due to their high intelligence and motoric abilities. Sending her off with some money and advice they wished Lariza the best of luck. The Charoda girl left her home with tears in her eyes, but also with euphory in her heart when thinking of the adventures in front of her and Akin, all the things they would see and all the people they would meet.

And so Lariza swam into the unknown, with her pet octopus riding on her head. Only the gods knew what exactly would await them...

Heirloom: Alongside other ornaments two of her mothers gave her wristlet out of shark teeth before she left. They ripped them from the jaws of a dead shark they found on one of their scavenging tours one day - the day the two of them realised they were in love. When they later met her other mothers and they eventually all fell in love with each other the other three added some teeth to it. The wristlet symbolises their affection for each other, and it's a very valuable item for her parents. Lariza proudly wears it around her right wrist.
