Natane lifted the last of her belongings up onto Niabi, the strider shifted her weight onto the other foot. The girl refused to use a saddle or Yvas which, it seemed, most Drykas favoured; she had always preferred bareback riding, like her mother before her. When she had bonded with the mare, Natane's father had given the girl the bridle her mother had used. It was the only thing she had to remember her mother by. She looked around, double checking the area, “I think that's everything...”
When the girl was confident that she had not left anything behind, she swung up onto her strider's back and took hold of the reins.
She stared at the city in the distance and shifted anxiously. Natane suddenly felt very sick at the idea of being so close to so many strangers, but what other choice did she have? Akarn was right, it would be much safer for her to be in Endrykas and, for some reason, she trusted him. So the girl gave Niabi a nudge in the side and looked over at the male Drykas, “Coming?”
