7th, Winter 514AV
Derain rocked slightly back and forth in his hammock. A yawn escaping from his tired lips as his eyes fluttered open. The sunlight flowing into the cave of a home he had. Their beds, a table, a desk a few chairs, and a couple of chest filled some of the empty space. His hands moved up to rub the sleepiness from his eyes. He looked down on his stomach to see his best friend laying there snoring lightly. The fur ball of a cat that he owned in Zeltiva that had come to Sahova with him. "Wake up Liam its morning" he said rising up. The cat stirred awake and hopped down onto the cave floor with a meow of a good morning. Derian yawned again, and looked around the cave. "Seems like Lorelei has gone, so it's just you and me." he said the cat looked up at him then took off running. Darting outside of the cave and around the corner. Derain shook his head and stretched out. "Whatever" he said waving his hand in the air. He had enough faith in his cat to not get itself killed, it hadn't yet so that had to be a good sign. He moved about the chamber, pulling his leather onto his body and combing his hair roughly. He wasn't to big on keeping himself completely clean, it wasn't really needed out in the hills. Once ready he left his cave home and began a short patrol.
The young man wandered around the crimson red hills. His lovely partner had returned to the Citadel leaving him out here alone. The man smiled and looked out over the rolling and peaking hills of the Bloodhills, the land he watched over. The land that was filled to the brim with abominations and failed experiments that he could try and study and then destroy. Derains favorite part was destroying them, though he did take quiet a bit of enjoyment from trying to learn from the failures of others. Sending a failed experiment into the void or using his projection to smack it around was a very enjoyable task or at least he believed so.
Derain turned into an outcropping and heard a faint hissing noise and then a rattling sound. He stopped moving and his eyes scanned the ground and worked up, looking over any outcrop of rock or hole that the sound maybe coming from. It was only when he looked straight ahead of him did he see the creature and a smile played across his face. A two headed rattlesnake sat in front of him. Both heads raised and their eyes locked on him as the rattle sounded off again, a warning of aggression. "What an ugly little thing you are. Are you a product of a failed experiment or maybe just something from a djed storm?" Derain said. His eyes studying the creature for a distance. He took in a breath and then released it feeling the djed coating around his hand. He slowly worked to push his astral hand away from his body, trying to dislodge it at the wrist as he did his best to keep his eyes on the snake.
The process was slow and tedious but usually resulted in less damage to the nerves. It was one of the things that Derain disliked most about the magic, if you wanted to be able to use your physical body then you had to take time with the separation and that could lead to trouble if you wanted to use the power in a fight. The snake continued to watch him as Derain returned the favor. After a few chimes his astral hand separated from the body and moved to grab the snake behind the head holding it in place and restricting it from striking. His hand hung numbly at his side as he took a step closer to the creature. "My my my" he said staying far enough away to avoid the strike if his hand happened to fail. "You truly are ugly" he said, "I wonder what Lorelei would think of you." He chuckled to himself as he looked around. He was still alone and there were no noticeable dangers other then the snake being held by the astral hand. The reptile struggled under his grip, trying to slid out and escape or lunge forward and bite the man. "You do not understand what is happening do you? Of course you don't. You can't escape because I do not will it. You are an abomination and thus you will be dealt with" the smile on his face widening.
There was very little the creature could do and he enjoyed the fact. He basked in the power that he had over the creature no matter how helpless it was. It was his job, as well as the others, to keep the Bloodhills in check and to protect Sahova and he loved every second of it. Since the day that Lorelei drug him out into the hills he had not regretted a single second of it. "Anyway, it is time to deal with you. Now lets see." he tapped his chin with his working hand as he pondered. He knelt down and grabbed a lose rock, bringing it up above the snakes two heads and then slamming it down crushing them both. The lifeless body was released by the spectral hand as it twitched and fell to the ground. Derain smiled quiet pleased with himself and then went about reattaching his hand. The process was slower the removing it and more difficult. First moving into the fingers, a tingling sensation overcoming them as the djed reconnected with its physical self. He sighed as the tingling moved over his hand as the rest of the djed slowly moved into place. He lifted his hand in front of his face and opened and closed it into a fist before moving each finger individually. "Such a slow and tedious process but so worth it" he said. He licked his lips and stepped out of the outcropping, continuing his small patrol around the area.
