Ever since Abura began to take its present form, in the century after the Valterrian, there has been a need for a central place accessible to non-winged visitors. Currently, that place is the Hospitality House, which was built in 502, and so is one of the newest structures on the island.
The structure is made of locally quarried sandstone, and was built by a hired team of Isur. Its polished walls gleam in the desert sunlight, and a large wooden sign in front of the double entrance doors proclaims the building’s name. It is only a few hundred feet north of the docks, and a well-maintained footpath leads up to it.
The entrance to the Hospitality House leads into the Great Room, a large, broad room with twenty-foot ceilings. An information desk, staffed by an Akvatari, is to the left; to the right is a bar, staffed by some of the Zeltivan sailors. This bar is also the only place in Abura where one can order food, since the Akvatari themselves forage for kelp and fish and have no concept of cooking.
In the rear of the building, there is an inn, also run by the Zeltivans, where non-flying visitors to Abura can stay. Each room has a bed, desk, chair, and nightstand, as well as a window looking out on the ocean below. Although the Zeltivan sailors who are stationed on the island have their own sleeping quarters in a building near the Sailors’ Guild office, Hospitality House is the only place on Abura where a room can be rented. The prices, however, reflect the fact that the Zeltivans don’t think of room rentals as a money-making venture, but as a service to their Akvatari trading partners.
