Dear Diary,

Yesterday, I got the best gift I could ever have gotten, a chat lore! I now have the power to lick founders with this shiny and exciting Lore: Lickability of Founders. They shall never be safe from my tongue again!

Love,
Orin

I saw something kind of amazing today and I wanted to write it down before I forgot. I was on the subway heading home today. And the car was pretty full as it often is around rush hour. Anyway, this guy steps onto the car and he doesn't quite fit, so the door can't close. So he tells the woman in front of him to move because there was space for him. It wasn't very polite but this happens all the time and usually people make do. But this woman had a kid with her, and she refused to move him. So, the guy gets angry and screams at her, cursing and insisting there is room and she's giving him as good as she's getting. It's looking kind of ugly. Now, something along these lines occurs pretty much once a day on my transit. People just pointedly ignore it and it sorts itself out one day or another. But this time, this complete random stranger to both of them, comes up, puts his hand on their shoulders, and says, "Please, respect the child." That's it. And the strangest thing was, it worked. The two calmed down immediately, and everyone else in the subway car somehow made enough room, myself included. Anyway, it made me think. There's a psychological term for this, the bystander effect. Basically, responsibility is diffused the more people there are in a crowd. And usually that prevents interference, or even giving aid. But, today, I got to see firsthand just how powerful not giving into that little voice telling you that someone else will deal with it. And let me tell you, it was kind of beautiful. At least I thought so.

I'm creating a separate section for pies. For two reasons. One, they're actually called tarts when you talk about them in terms of medieval cuisine which is what I try and base my cooking off of. Apparently tart is the word for dessert and pie is the word for the actual meal. So if it's a meat pie then it's a pie. Fun stuff. Two hello pies? Yum.

Some information about crusts that I skimmed

History of Pies
So, apparently, I wasn't quite correct earlier. A pie simply means the fruit within is covered by a pastry. A tart has an open top.

So, yesterday I had a terrible, truly awful day at work. You know, one of those days where you're in a funk all day and everything goes wrong and it's all your fault. You make a ton of sloppy mistakes that you should've known better and don't know why you made them and you feel like everyone else is judging you and blaming you and you just feel like the world is falling down around you or just simply out to get you. And I'll be the first to admit that I don't like this job. In fact, I kind of hate it. I've only been here a month and I'm at the bottom of the pecking order. They don't give me enough information, get incredibly mad at me when I make the smallest mistake and then tell me I messed up when I don't correct something my predecessors had done wrong, since I should've caught it. So, not ideal although nothing they have done or said has actually been unreasonable it’s just frustrating for me personally. I’m probably reading too much into the situation anyway. I'm just not suited for this type of job is the issue I think and it's good to know that sooner rather than later. But it's better than doing nothing and I have my fingers crossed that something better will come up soon. So it's entirely possible that I'm not really trying to do everything to the best of my abilities because I don't want to be here in the first place and the mistakes are just my subconscious' way of telling me to get out while I can.

Anyway why am I writing this post? None of you probably care all that much and I know in the grand scheme of things this is so minor it's not even worth bothering about. But as I was going through this day I was thinking about Orin. And he's so hopeful all the time and when he makes a mistake he just shoulders it and moves on and never makes the same mistake twice. So totally unlike me that I guess it just made me wonder if it was even realistic. I mean, everyone gets down sometimes and so it didn’t make sense that he would be so damn cheerful all the time. Not that he doesn’t have bad patches but overall he’s definitely an optimist. But then I remembered a few years ago, maybe more than a few actually, where I would always wake up on the right side of the bed. Without fail. I would always be smiling. And whatever happened in the day wouldn't ever phase me in the long run. So I guess Orin is my way of trying to get back into that mindset. And though it doesn't work all the time if it works even once then I'll considered it a success.

Orin was always such a peaceful lad
The kitchen where he dwelt day in day out
Would be sure to keep him from turning sad
And indeed, it was rare to see him pout
Then one day people started badgering
And Orin felt himself grow oh so cold
He stopped himself from doing anything
But the pressure got worse till he got bold
He took out his knives and went on a spree
Blood ran in the streets and shouts filled the air
Orin quickly filled with unholy glee
And he discovered he just did not care
Never was there a story of more woe
Than this of Orin and his evil foe

"A supper!" cried the guest: and Minnie frowned.
And tried to scrounge the larder for a meal,
For Minnie felt none of the common weal,
That comes from pleasant nights out on the town.
And yet, the guest prevailed on her to meet,
To take her walking stick, and stroll the walk
Despite it being well past nine o clock,
And find some place for soup and sup and sweets.
"Chez Orin!" said her guest, "Now that sounds nice!"
And so they entered, sat, and made request:
A fowl, a pot, and bottle of your best!
But little did the couple realize --
The chef of Chez Orin, was sharpening knives -
And not, for carving up the chicken thighs...

Not much to eat in old Syliras,
Or, at least, as a squire.
For there were the knights, and only one power higher.
Not Sylir, no, but a nice guess.
While the second highest love their training and making the squires eat less,
All this one cared about was that single, solitary love
Of a roasted duck, chicken, beef, dove
Honestly who cares. We're hungry.

Luckily, so luckily,
They found a place, a special place you see,
For not only was there food but a man who makes it with care,
And without him none of the food would actually be there...
But who gives a shyke! It's time to eat!
And my, the food looks tasty!
(And my the chef is rather pasty...)
But who cares!? It's time to eat!

The mob of squires gorged themselves
On vegetables and meats
Though the food was gone quite quick,
The memories they keep.
Though, what's this? One ate his too fast!
He bellowed and gurggled and chucked up the meal that was his last.

We thought it was simple, and ordinary,
Boy would that have been fine.
But a demon had appeared from below that squire's belly brine.
He was large, and grotesque, his skin left something wanting
He was veiny, and ripped open, on his nails his skin was caught,
But oh my god he was hot.

Glorg! Our lord! Our savior and glory to he!
Glorg! Our lord! Our savior and glory to he!
He creeped up on the chef, melting pots with his breath
Until a smell, a whiff, caught his nose
He turned with a fright, though he saw
Just the chef's horderves.
Which he gobbled and greeded and filled his face to the very brim,
When the chef had turned and saw his face and seemed to lose his wind.
With a devious grin and eyes more horrid, our lord Glorg looked at the chef and he said
"You win"
And then off he was, on a wind, in the night,
Never to return to the safe citadel.
Those who had saw banged drums and rang the bells
(Just ignore the pesky infidels)

"The chef has saved us!" They exclaimed as they held him to the sky.
One patron made himself clear: "Tell us your name, so says I!"
The chef did one thing, one thing did he,
Reached into his pocket, oh what could it be?
He pulled out some shades, stuck them on his face
"Who, me?" he said, smiling, with a grin, teeth as big as bricks
"Oh I'm just the chef. Just Orin Fenix."

Then the world exploded the end.
