Spring the 4th, 515 AV

The morning began to wane as Syna reaching toward her throne in the peak of the sky. The last sign of Morwen's touch was also fading away in the breath of warm breeze. The good day reflected good feeling that rose inside him. Walking away from the Lord Council's Office, with Tranaris Johnson recomendation for a job turn this beautiful day more joyous.
He was terrified and eager to start his new job.

Turned away from the Old Quarter he could find the Sailors' Queater without much trouble. Yet as the scenery changed from rigid grayish buildings to dozens of unfurled sails, a grim of feeling started to twirl in his heart. Sailors' Guild... he remembered his father was struggling so hard to get a membership of the renowned guild. He also remembered his father would leave him to study alone, with books to read or excercise to solve when he needs to go to guild's meeting. And above all, the guild was his father's dream for him to be. Quite an irony after he already escaped from his father, He'll work for the guild. It's not like I'm going to work there forever... He need money to pay his education. A real education in a path he chose for himself, that he love. He shook his head to wake himself up from unnecessary resentment. He need to move on.

Much to his surprise, the Sailors' Guild Hall was easy to find. Even without the direction Mr. Johnson gave him. The building was big and stood proud among the other. If the building at the university was rich in tone of grandeur ancient architecture, this building was far more exquisite. Perhaps that was reflection from the merchants and sailor that united under the guild it self? He couldn't make up his mind. Eldain approached the gate with caution. There was no one guarding the gate. Eldain looked at the instruction twice before decided to walked in.

Inside, there was surprisingly small antechamber. Left to a big wooden door, and right to a series of another doors. Still, there was nobody he could ask for anything. Eldain stood frozen for a moment. What now?... He didn't dare to do anything as all the doors was closed and he didn't know which one he should open. Ticks became chimes and he was standing still, looking to the doors.

"Excuse me?" A gentle yet formal voice made him turn. There at last, a women with formal black business dress stood in front of him. He notice her blazing red hair was tight in a ponytail and metal rimmed glasses framed her stern expression. She was hugging a bold book, and was clearly displayed cautiousness toward him. He thought she knew he wasn't suppose to be there. And he need to do something.

"I've sent here by Mr. Tranaris Johnson." He tried to told her with confident, his voice did not betray him this time. "He said I need to gave this to the guildsmen."

The women took his paper in silent and observed the seal. She then proceeded to open up the scroll and seems to be absorbed for a while. Eldain let her read the document and took the time to observe her. She stood as tall as himself, but he could not perceive if she was older or younger than him.

"My name is Hanrietta." Replied the women as formal as before "Please wait here, Mr. Dogma." the slightest smile arose from her lips. Eldain automatically responded with a nod, and the women take her leave. She jogged eagerly to the series of doors right from him. The sound of her heels echoed in the silence of the chamber. Approaching the second door from left, she knocks three times before opened up the door.

It wasn't long before the door was opened up once more. Hanrietta walked out the door and gave him a nod. "This way." He followed Hanrietta to a stairs that built on the wall, slightly on the left. He felt a bit ashamed for not noticing this before. Upstairs, there were another series of doors just like down below. Hanrietta leads him to the right, to the further most door.

"The first floor is the office of Administrative Comittee Officer's and the Hall. This is where we work." She turned to him while opened up the door "I'm glad we get replacement for our clerk this fast. Welcome to your job."

Behind the door the room was dim as the light of Syna was hard to pierce the drape. As Hanrietta pulled it, the light danced through the emptiness of the unused room. It revealed a wooden desk loaded with scrolls and parchments, a vial of thick black ink, and several quill pen. Big book shelve covered one side of the wall, full of books in different shape and thickness. The air was a bit cool but not unpleasant. The smell of paper and ink could but smelled in the slightest. Eldain looked around for awhile, in contrast with the exquisite antechamber below, the room seems absolutely ordinary and a bit plain. Almost comparable to his room at the University, only with a little more modern scent on it.

"Now about the work... You'll hold the responsibility to organize most of the general expenditure of the Guild... that's it for now. It's not hard, but as you can see it'll alot of things you need to write down." She gestured at the load of scroll and parchment. "Most of it would be minor purchase from general store." Her gaze turned up and for the first time, their eyes locked into each other for a few uncomfortable tick. He wouldn't said that it didn't gave him a shiver down his spine. It was not a piercing and disgusted glare from a greyish eyes he used to know. No, the expression tied with the golden iris in front of him was far from disgusted. All that he knew was she eyeing him with constant but passive curiosity. Perhaps she had been entrusted to assess him? That would explain much...

"Am I right to assume that you're familiar with this kind of work?"

"Oh... Yes... yes." He barely heard the question but managed to replied with the right answer. For an instance Eldain saw her brow tilted, but it was very brief that he doubt if it was happens. A tick passed without another question and it dawned to him she was asking for more detail. He slowly added "My father taught me the basic and gave me a bunch of exercises."

"Right." She moved aside and stood by the table and gestured him to sit. Her head tilted a little like she was concerned about something bothering her. But she shrugged it off a few tick later. As Eldain took his seat, Hanrietta's hand moved up and reached for a thick book from the shelves. She put it down gently in front of him. "You know what that is?" The book was covered in leather, cow perhaps, and was soft when touched. The yellowish page indicated the book was supposed to be old, but the binding was strong. It was a high quality book, if Eldain could say that. A type of book he would found in his father's study room. He opened up the book and saw that most of the page was had been written with letters and numbers. A remnant of old transactions. His fingers swept upon the writing for a while. Cold... He continued to turn the page and finally find an empty page beside the last record in which dated winter 514 AV.

Hesitated for a tick, he turned to Hanrietta. "It's a Purchase Book. To record purchase transactions that happen in certain period, Winter 514 in this case." He absently replied her with autonomous voice. Hanrietta seemed unimpressed, but she gave him a nod.

"It was last period. You could find new book for spring at the shelves."
She pointed at the corner of the shelves. "You can start with these purchases. Gave the book to me once you have done, I'll be next door." An full and sincere smile bloomed in her face, it was the first time she didn't seemed too formal for him. "It's good to meet you Mr. Dogma."

The woman turned away and already pulled the door when Eldain cought himself said to her "Please call me Eldain."

[Sailors' Guild Hall] New Life Demands a New Job

The door shrieked in silence as Hanrietta disappeared behind thickness of the wood. Eldain found himself alone in a chamber that would be his office for unknown length of time. The emptiness of the air began to gave him a shudder as scent of supposedly old building tickled his nose playfully. He let out a breath of deep sigh and got up from his seat. Mr. Dogma. The way Hanrietta called Eldain bother the young man. Hearing someone pronounced his surname has always triggered a bit of unpleasant memories that he had tried to buried. He was no longer a Dogma, as far as he could tell, nor he wanted to be one. Perhaps I should start calling my self with different name?. The idea was tempting. But the young man shrugged it off, Another time, I need to get things done now.

He forced his leg to took a step and moved toward the book shelves. Lifting his hand, his hand swept through books of different colors. Hanrietta was pointing this way, few tick passed before he found an empty one. It has the same greenish color with the winter 514 purchase book. Weighting the book in one hand, he turned the pages and looked for any writings to ensure if it was unused. Glad he couldn't find any, he brought the book and put it down upon the table. Eldain pulled the wooden chair and once again sitting down behind the table. His hand automatically reached for the next thing he need, vial of ink and a quill pen. For a tick the quill pen absorbed his concern as he observed if the end of the pen was sharp enough. He has done this hundreds of time and soon come to realize it was good enough. With the free left hand he removed the vial's lid and dipped the quill pen into the thick black liquid.

Let it begin...

Readjusting the book so he would more comfortable to write, Eldain tried to summon for knowledge embedded to his head. Years of torment might be awful and devastating, but he would bitterly admit the lesson was proved useful... at least for now. He hated himself for using skills his father taught him, but it was necessary. Until he was capable to survive on his own. Sudden urge whipped his eagerness to finish education. An ambition to stood by himself, to live without the shadow of his father.

He lifted the quill slow and ease, using the vial's mouth to cleared out excess drip of ink. At the first page of the book he did'nt started from upper left corner. Instead he directed the feather into the middle of the page, where his hand danced around with the quill, followed by sharp line of ink scribbled into the page.

Purchase Daybook
Spring, 515 AV

Eldain observed the writing for a moment and let out a relived, he smirked. That should be good enough... he turned the page into the next empty page and rested the feather, Eldain reached for one of the parchment. He opened up the rolled paper, struggling a bit as it refuses to stay unrolled, and lifted it a bit so the Syna's light glared the tidy little scribble. The young man scanned the writing and make sure that there were nothing suspicious or missing from it. The letter was a well written but occasional curve disturbed the perfection. He simply assumed the maker was writing on a non-flat surface. He looked into a formal document, the date was written on the right corner, the written language was quite formal but easy to understand. It was supposedly a note of purchase.

Spring the 1st, 515 AV

I hereby declared the following purchase was made by the Sailors' Guild Hall.
- Twelve Blank Books, 36 Gold Miza
- Twelve Quills, 60 Copper Miza
- Six Vials of Ink (1 Oz. each), 18 Gold Miza
All the goods was purchased by Miza and payment has been done.

General Store of Zeltiva
Halabin Clarke

He scanned the seal that marked the note, two barrels behind a flapping seagull and ropes circling the outlet that supposed to be the mark of the store *Yes, I'm just making this up. If there is any official lore about it, please let me know ;) . I'll gladly change this.. It was perfect. The signature of Halabin Clarke was also flawless. He turned the paper and looked the signature from behind. The mark was faint but at some places the ink managed to pierce the thickness of the paper, merely as an unshaped dots. He could also felt the faint line resulted by scratching pen against the paper. Everything's in order.

He adjusted the parchment beside the purchase book so it would be easy for him to look into. Then once again he reached for his pen and dipped the pointy edge to the vial. Lifted his right hand above the blank page, He started to write down.
