A Mid-Fall Lesson

Postby Evan on May 21st, 2015, 4:49 pm

21 Fall 510
Where: Fighting Pits
Who: Evan, age 14

At first, Evan was disappointed when he learned the wandering adventurer that had been with him for two years now was leaving. He had known Chet from when he was a new Yasi, right out of the communal nursery. Chet was almost like an older brother to Evan, keeping him out of trouble and occasionally giving him pointers in his studies. Evan found himself reflecting on this as he moped his way to the Fighting Pits.

Once he arrived, Chet greeted him excitedly. He was always an excitable man, which is probably why he got along with Evan so well. Chet had a youthful look about him, he was in his mid twenties, but still radiated a feeling of pure youthful energy. He was a half blood, with brown eyes but the still unmistakable bright red Inartan hair. Chet wandered a lot, never spending more than a few years in one place. He had decided to take advantage of this to find more about his Inartan father and learn some about his heritage. After arriving he had assimilated into Winds Reach fairly well, despite being a half blood. He spent most of the time in the Fighting Pits or Tavern, and did some freelance work as a game scout.

"So, you're here to see me off?" Evan snapped back into reality to realize Chet had been talking. He replied nervously "Yes, I wanted to see you before you left." Chet laughed and gave Evan a pat on the shoulder "I was actually going to try to find you too, I decided to find you a parting gift." The boy was excited, he hardly ever really received gifts. Chet dug through his pack for a minute before producing a talon sword in its sheath "I was around your age when I got this, I figured it's served me well, it might do the same for you". Evan stared at the sword with pure wonder. It was sleek and thin, with a curved blade. It looked better suited for controlled strikes than reckless ones, and redirection and parrying Evan stared at it until Chet brought him back to reality by saying "Go on then, take it."

Carefully taking the weapon, he began to carefully pull it out of its sheath. It was light, he could comfortably hold it in one hand. Evan took a few step back and took a wide swing with the blade, testing its weight. Chet smiled as he saw the younger boy play with his new knife. Eventually Evan stopped wildly swinging his gift around, and sheathed it back in its leather scabbard. Chet then taught him how to attach the scabbard to Evan's belt. After a moment of silence, Evan slammed into Chet in a tight hug. Chet simply smiled, running a hand through the young boy's hair and said "Now, let me teach you how to use it."
