Serana Hungry like the wolf 15th Day of Summer, 515 |

Kelwyn's Knocker. While native Nykans would push each other into knocking on the door-knocker, knowing what it was actually capable of doing, Sera knew nothing of the sort. She knew that magic existed, she had seen it on many occasions during her enslavement and she found it fascinating while at the same time, frightening. Freedom was something that took some getting used to. No, she hadn't been born into slavery, she knew what it was to not have that collar bound on her neck but she had spent enough time under the control of her master that it had felt like a lifetime. One that was difficult to fully escape.
With freedom came choice. The freedom to make her own choices was a double-edged sword because in many ways, that could lead to her death faster than any slave master she could find herself serving.
Finding this place, this door-knocker without a door... It was a choice that she made to go up to it. She didn't know what rested behind it, she couldn't read thus she had no indication. All she knew was the knocker was elaborate and interesting. It would have been far more stunning if modeled after the noble wolf but let's face it, she was 'somewhat' biased. Without really even realizing that something could happen, good or bad, she stepped forward and tapped the knocker against the stone.
Sera waited a few moments, eyebrows raised as though she was waiting for something to happen but nothing did. There was no clap of thunder, no flash of light. There was nothing. With a shrug of her shoulders, Serana left the knocker behind and went about the rest of the day. She was still exploring the city, doing what she could to memorize the different areas so that if she needed to make a quick escape, she wouldn't find herself trapped.
It was frightening, if she was honest. Frightening to be in a new city that she really didn’t know anything about. She knew that the monks ruled it and they could be a dangerous lot but other than that, she felt as though she was walking into a pit that held fire and she was blinded. She knew no one within the city that could guide her, help her through this and even if she had met someone, she wouldn’t likely trust them enough to let them help her. She had trust issues in so many ways but could anyone blame her? Being a slave for a number of her years didn’t really prepare her for the real world outside of the collar. Sera was still somewhat like a child, learning about a new place all on her own.
Forgetting the strange knocker she had come across, Sera decided instead to take to the wilds outside of Nyka. It was dangerous, she was aware of that but it was a perfect place for her to hunt as well. She didn’t know what her place was in this world but she was certain that whatever it was, it would involve hunting. Once outside Nyka, she shifted seamlessly into her wolf form and she was at home. The moment she was in her beastial form, down on all fours with scents assailing her and her body covered in warm fur, she felt like she was at home. It was still light but the evening was approaching. Many of her prey would be moving now and she would catch something to eat. She didn’t need to eat in some restaurant or café within the city when she could find her own food on the outside.
Claws dug into the ground beneath her large paws and she sniffed at the ground, taking in the various scents. Humans mixed with other races as well as animals. So many different scents to follow but the humans didn’t interest her. She didn’t hold any prejudice against humans but she wouldn’t go out of her way to approach them either. Plus she wasn’t going to attack anything that she wouldn’t eat, she didn’t kill for sport. She had been used by her master to hunt down other slaves that he released and let run, she knew how it was to chase down some poor human and take them to the ground, her claws digging into their flesh and drawing blood. She had killed more than a few of her master’s slaves not because they deserved it but rather because he was a sadistic bastard.
It was still upsetting, thinking back on it but she would put that life behind her. She was no longer that wolf slave who would allow herself to be ordered about. Never again.
Catching the scent of a deer in the distance, Sera kept the urge back of howling so not to scare her prey and began stalking her prey. She was quiet, aware of her surroundings should another predator enter into the equation. Her heart was racing, her blood flowing as she hunt down the deer that likely didn’t know what was coming its way. Had she been in a pack, this kill would have been more simple but she had to make do with what she had.
The tan doe came into sight, grazing on some grass in the open. It was a beautiful. Stepping forward, she halted when the doe lifted her head suddenly, catching the scent of the wolf. In an instant the doe took off running and Sera was in pursuit of the deer. She growled as she gave chase, feeling the exhilaration that came with the hunt. This was what made it worthwhile. The deer turned suddenly and Serana had to dig her claws into the ground deep to help her turn on the dime as well. She couldn’t move as gracefully as the doe but she wouldn’t give up in the chase.
The doe cut to the left once again but at this point Serana anticipated the doe’s movement and was able to intercept the doe. With As much force as she could muster, she leapt from the ground to strike into the doe’s side, catching the poor frightened animal by surprise and taking her to the ground. Had this been a stag, Sera would have had a lot more trouble but this was a young doe. Jaws clamped shut over the doe’s throat and without a moment’s hesitation, Sera ripped the deer’s throat out. She had caught her meal and she would eat. |
