Fall 42 Evening
On a particularly overcast evening a starving girl shambled through the city. She was a stranger to the city, and beyond that a freak. The girl was one of Sahova's failed experiments, a test subject that had managed to leave the island as if searching for some final place to collapse and die. The girls clothes consisted of a tattered jacket and a filthy shirt and pair of pants. As the girl walked along she stumbled to the part of Zeltiva called east street. Luckily for the girl she fit in among the rabble that meandered the alleys and buildings that called east street home.
The girl wasn't really sure of her purpose the only thing driving her was her hunger, the last of her provisions had been eaten two days ago and her stomach had ye to cease reminding her of that particularly unpleasant fact. Roving on instinct the urchin's stomach pulled her towards the smells of food and warmth. The place she found though was not likely one that could be called fortunate for her. The building that had attracted the girl now lay across the street, the name of the place was written in red lettering above the door on a Garish sign, if the girl could read she would know it said Loveless. In front of the place there were several women all garbed in colorful dresses that truly made the girls outfit look like some collection of rags. The women looked happy, they tossed catcalls at passing men and sipping from the glasses they held. The girl unconsciously licked her lips, the thought of eating made her hungrier than she already had been.
Could she be happy like the women standing across the street. What would it be like to have ribs that didn't show through your skin? to not have to worry about looking for something to eat every day? Staring at the colorful establishment the child imagined what it would be like to have a warm bead and food to eat. The idea appealed to her greatly. So much so that she decided that she was willing to sacrifice whatever she had to become one of those colorful women.
So the girl took a single step towards the building, ready to cross the street. Unaware of the particular type of price she could end up paying.
