I don't know how Dad would feel about me writing things down in his old recipe book, but I don't really have much money to spare on buying myself a journal, and it's got plenty of pages left.
... I'll make sure to add some recipes too. That would make him happy.

Finally arrived in Lhavit. I've got maybe five hundred gold left and the clothes on my back. I know I shouldn't be looking back or regretting my choice; regrets will push away the new opportunities that come my way. Really, though; how hard would it have been to stay in Syliras and kept running the restaurant?
I have to admit here, though; whenever I look out the window of my new, tiny little apartment, I forget about all my troubles. This place is amazing, none of the stories I read do it justice. The way it sits upon these mountaintops, like it was carved out of the rocks, so delicate... I can see why they call it the floating city of stars. Even the morning fog is beautiful.
This is the perfect place for me to make a new beginning.
... Maybe after my body doesn't feel like it's going to collapse underneath the weight of this pen. I really need to exercise more. Or maybe just stop climbing mountains.
61st Fall 510
I swapped out the rest of my money for the local currency today. They're called kina, and they look like they're made out of some sort of pretty crystal. I think the lady that rented me my apartment said it was called something, but I can barely remember anything. I think I spent most of my first day wandering around like an awe-struck tourist, even when I was already exhausted. That was a great plan, really. I wish I could write more convincing sarcasm.
I just can't help but feel like I haven't grown much at all. Sure, I travelled all the way here, but I paid through the nose every step of the way so I wouldn't have to do anything. I can't really call it an accomplishment if I didn't do anything, can I?
That's going to have to change now. I'm going to grab this new life of mine with both hands and I'm going to step forward. Good bye, old cowardly me.

No luck looking for a job. Not because no one will have me, but I can't speak the bloody language to ask for directions. That was another thing I really should have thought about before up and moving like this.
My supply of money is going down much too fast for comfort; I'm going to be broke before the year is out if this keeps up.
Maybe I'll go and collect some of my own food from the mountains. There were a lot of wild plants around here, and if I don't go too far from the gate, I'm sure it will be fine.
I should really put down a list of Important Things That Must Be Done first, though. I'm still really disorganised, and I can't do that anymore. I'm responsible for myself now.
List of Important Things That Must Be Done
- Find a job (IMPORTANT!) - Get a map of the city or something similar so I don't get lost. - Socialise! (Maybe go to a bar and make some friends who speak my language?) - Learn Lhavitian (VITAL FOR SURVIVAL!) - Clean up my apartment - Decide on what to have for dinner
Hm... I think I'll have stew tonight. I'd best go shopping now then.
66th Fall, 510
Just woke up from a nap. Never used to nap when Dad was alive. He thought it would make me lazy. I think it has. Sorry, Dad.
Went out foraging like I planned. It was really exciting to be following through like that, and getting something done. On top of that, I think I made a friend!
His name is Vendril (I don't know how to spell it). He's a Symenestra. One of the spider people that never came into the restaurant back home. I only saw them a few times when I was little. They were kind of scary. Vendril was very nice though, even if his Common sounded a little weird. It's because it's not his first language. Not that he can speak Lhavitian either. I'm beginning to hate that stupid language.
Anyway, he was going out hunting, and we travelled together for the day. We stayed the night, too; Vendril cornered his prey in a cave and wanted to wait for it to go to sleep. It's really amazing how he could find it just by looking at some mud by the watering hole.
He lent me this really old book in his language, too, and started teaching me! It's a difficult language to say; there's a lot of 's' sounds, and my tongue can't quite get the hang of it. It was still fun, and now I know some things! I'll add my notes in here later so I don't forget.
While I think I annoyed him a few times, he was still nice, even if he does have fangs.
I got myself some stuff to eat from the trip too, and Vendril gave me some really nice (and very, very) fresh meat. I think I'll find somewhere outside to cook it on a fire. I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to look at the stars, and they are beautiful around here.

Okay, enough lagging around. I finally got a map, and I know there's gotta be a place around here that needs a cook. Or maybe a waiter.
Wish me luck, recipe journal book!
