Appearance
Race: Zith
Gender: Male
Age: 13
Birthday: 1st, Summer 502 AV
Birthplace: Xy colony caverns
Appearance:
Threnody is a tall Zith covered in silky, pitch black fur along all of his body except for his forearms and lower legs which are covered in similarly textured deep crimson fur. Large black wings sprout from his back as with all Zith. Occasionally Threnody wraps these wings around himself in something akin to a cloak, usually he does this when communicating with Non-Ziths. Numerous scars cover his arms and shoulders as well as on his neck and chest, these are usually hidden beneath his fur, but the scars show where the fur thins out on his neck and at certain places on his arms where scar tissue is large enough to prevent the fur around from completely covering it. His deep blue hair frames his face in unkempt strands that match his striking deep blue eyes. His sallow cheeks sit on either side of a thin nose and his left cheek has faint claw marks left behind from altercations long past.
Character Concept
Distrustful, traditional Zith out investigating the world
Character History
Threnody was born in the large Zith colony of Xy along with his twin brother who never took a Non-zith name. Threnody grew up in the tumultuous chaos which could only be his extended family. Arguments broke out every other minute about anything and everything and more often than not broke down into all out claw-brawls. In the family of 30 Zith (give or take) not a single one did not bear some form of scarring from infighting. This was due to the fiery temper that ran through the entire bloodline, with the only exception being Silhouette, Threnody's father. Silhouette was a stern, relatively quiet Zith who could teach anyone a thing or two about sneaking around. Threnody still believes that his father's temper was far worse, because where the others where like bonfires, burning loud and bright all the time, Silhouette was more like an impending explosion. Instead of shouting he would smolder, his words becoming a low growl which usually deterred further provocation, but if pressed far enough, Silhouette would virtually erupt in a fit of violent rage that would often include all present as targets instead of just the object of his rage. All in all, Threnody loved it. The family fought and raged and argued near constantly, but there were very few people he would trust more. Both Threnody and his brother had inherited the family temper but they also had a bit of their fathers volatility. Unlike their father though, it was not limited to their rage.

This familial closeness extended to the training of the young ones as well. Threnody was not only taught to hunt by his mother, Massacre, but also by 3 other mates of his father. He enjoyed training greatly. The feeling of flying out on his powerful ebony wings in the cool night air was an intoxicating sensation and one he soon became addicted to, to the point where he became slightly more irritable each day he was restricted from flying, something he has kept with him to this day. With his natural love for flight he proved a decent hunter, learning the ways of swooping down on prey and lifting it into the sky as quickly as all Zith do. He spent most of his young life outside, hunting for smaller creatures to practice his quiet hunting or branching with his brother. The activity of branching was something his brother had come up with while he observed young owls learning to fly in their trees, and so the brothers often spent time swooping silently from one tree to the next in a larger form of the owl exercise. This usually ended in a fairly heated race to see who could cross an entire forest without flapping their wings once, unfortunately neither of them managed and it often ended in the pair returning home with scratches and gashes all over their bodies, either from trees or in flight foul play, however, Threnody's brother showed far more skill in flight than his brother.

The small remainder of Threnody's time was spent inside learning things about the outside world from the family's slave group. The group of slaves, about 13 to 16 slaves at any given time were treated well for slaves, Threnody's family saw the slaves more as pets or servants which was a great contrast from the slavemaster's in Ravok that Threnody heard of once or twice. Threnody enjoyed listening to the stories the slaves told of the outside world as they engaged his burning curiosity and his desire to explore and learn more of this world. During the daytime he could often be found by the slaves, with his legs tucked in close to his body and his wings surrounding him, giving the young Zith the appearance of a teenager wrapped up in a black leathery blanket. He listened intently to stories of amazing skyglass towers suspended over mountains in the stars and cities built from spiders silk. The slaves also found it was best not to tell the young Zith stories of heroism and ideals as he often missed the concept entirely and spent most of the time afterwards badgering the storyteller with questions about why the hero did this or that when quite clearly the damsel in distress was clearly better suited to being prey than being a mate, and the townsfolk that needed saving would certainly have served him better as working slaves.

It was at age 10 that Threnody and his brother departed the colony on their proving hunts. The event would decide if the pair could begin hunting with the adult males of the family to help bring in slaves, food and resources for the slaves to craft with such as leather, fur, hide and bone. Threnody returned to the colony battered and bleeding with the carcass of a juvenile bear he had found intruding upon the colony hunting grounds. The fight itself had been a savage flurry of claws and teeth leaving Threnody with scars across his torso and on his neck as well. After submitting his hunt for judging he flew off to the family cavern where a slave was to see to his wounds. The young Kelvic woman, who was named Felicity by one of the family elders, was named for her upbeat nature despite her enslavement. She acted as a teacher sometimes, teaching the younger Zith some basics of the common language. She wore no restrictive collar as her animal form was that of a fox, something the Zith family did not see as dangerous. Felicity had become one of the family's favoured slaves over her short time of servitude.
Perhaps it was the timing of their meeting, being directly after Threnody had returned from a hunt, or perhaps an actual bond formed between the two, but it was soon after this that a passionate romance sprung up between the bestial Zith and the half-beast slave. Besides the lovemaking, Threnody also had a great amount of fascination for the way Felicity could change shapes at will and found her voice pleasing to listen to. He also found a deeper form of conversation with the Kelvic than with any of his kind. While he did not always entertain the deeper talks, he always listened quietly when he wasn't really in the mood to speak.

Meanwhile, Threnody's brother had yet to return. Days had passed and he had not returned from his hunt. A thorough search was undertaken by the males of Threnody's family as they scoured their hunting ground. Threnody's brother was found 4 days after the search had begun. His wings had been broken by a group of hunters before they had thrown him into a small ravine. It was at this point that Threnody and his father had both experienced the same violent outburst of rage which caused them to leap to the air, rallying those who weren't assisting the injured Zith around them as they set out for blood. Threnody often refers to it as the Bloodsworn Hunt when he tells others about it. The attack was swift, with the Zith swooping down upon the hunters gathered around a campfire. Things swiftly became a veritable frenzy of wings, weapons, claws and dismembered limbs as the family vented their fury upon the unsuspecting hunters. The fight had been short and brutal with the hunters outnumbered and ambushed and soon Threnody returned home to find his brother recuperating in the family cavern.

After Threnody had spoken with his brother and the few Zith who had learned enough about healing to assist with the broken wings he went to see Felicity. His mood had fouled quite drastically after he had heard the news, it was not likely his brother would be able to fly again. Threnody sat quietly fuming despite not knowing what exactly it was that infuriated him. Meanwhile Felicity sat nearby, attempting to talk to her moody lover. After a few muffled grunts from Threnody the Kelvic picked up a small possession she had carved from the bone of a less fortunate captive. A small ocarina. She placed her lips on the mouthpiece and blew gently into the odd instrument. The low keening sound the instrument made was something akin to a dirge. Threnody sat quietly as he watched her play. He so deeply wanted to be mad, as if some uncontrollable fire inside of him did not want to go out. The hunters had ruined his brother's life. After all, what was a Zith without his wings?
And yet, when Felicity played the soft, mournful tune on the odd instrument, Threnody found the fire inside slowly diminishing. When he asked her what the strange sound she had made with the instrument, she smiled and handed the Ocarina to him before telling him about the Requiem, or Threnody as some called it. It was in that moment that Threnody took his name.

Some 30 odd days later Threnody found himself making one of the biggest choices in his life. He had chosen to leave behind his colony and set to exploring the world. About 6 days prior, Felicity had passed away due to an infected scar created by Threnody unintentionally. She had given him the ocarina and taught him some of how to play before the infection had taken root, but as soon as it had progressed to a crippling level Felicity was slain by the family elders, no longer having any use for her. Threnody did not mourn, and neither did anyone else in the family. Death was something which happened as part of life. As Threnody's mate she was given a proper burial, but more than this was not afforded. Elsewhere in the cavern Threnody's brother had taken up the relatively new art of slave breeding with some of the family elders. His beautiful broken wings hung crookedly from his back as a permanent reminder of his botched hunt, but it did not stop him from working where he could. Unlike his brother though, Threnody had found that with Felicity's passing he had no further need to stay. In fact, he now wished to pursue the search for the mysterious places he had heard about as a young Zith. With his focus set on this task, nobody could dissuade him. Soon he had gathered the equipment he needed and departed in search of the strange cities of the world.
