Appearance
Race: Human, Drykas
Gender: Female
Age: 18
Birthday: 1st of Fall, 497 AV.
Birthplace: Sea of Grass, Cyphrus
Appearance: Garnet is a true Drykas in that she has been bestowed her Windmarks after bonding to a Strider. They are the first thing you would notice on her; tribal looking black lines covering the left side of her body from her jawline down her arm and on her left shoulder blade and chest. Her Windmarks depict a more abstract story of the Sea of Grass with a few spots that look like pavilions and horses here and there among the thick black lines swirling along her pale skin.
Her hair is long and blond with wild curls she has long given up on trying to tame. While she enjoys the intricate braiding the Drykas are known for she tends to keep it loose or pulled into a very simple fishtail braid. In the event her hair is done up in intricate knot work, chances are she did it for a special reason.
Her skin is a soft creamy color that freckles in the summer and pales again to white by winter. Her eyes are a bright blue and lined with moderate eyelashes that are more of a dark brown paired with thick darker blond / light brown eyebrows she sees no need in trimming down.Concept
Garnet is mostly courteous, however, she can become so wrapped up in something she forgets her manners. The truth is she is not the best at relating to people or considering their feelings or emotions. Sure she can be fiercely loyal to those whom she takes an interest in, but the problem is she often finds most people boring or predictable, usually her forever friends are interesting in some way. She is rarely outright rude-- unless reacting to someone being equally rude-- but can be considered lacking in manner at times and she can cop an attitude when she feels the other person has done or said something to deserve it.
Despite her home, the Sea of Grass, being a rather dangerous location, Garnet has seemed to adapt well enough to it. She takes risks that others might consider her foolish for, and she often finds that playing it safe never offers fulfilling rewards. Due to this she is constantly on the hunt for a new, dangerous, adventure that she can take some risk with and attempt to reap rewards from. If it's easy, she will probably still do it, but will not take as much enjoyment out of than she would if it was riskier for her to accomplish.
Garnet usually never lies, seeing no reason to withhold the truth unless it is something simple like a surprise, or just having no trust of the person. While she is not generally suspicious of people, she is not overly trusting either. She usually will share information that would cause no harm to share and withholds everything else in the name of personal privacy, or cultural privacy-- for instance she would likely never tell an outsider about Webbing, even if they came up asking her about it. Just the same she would not likely divulge every detail about herself or her family to some random stranger.
While affectionate and "flirty" to those she considers dear, she is not an overly romantic person. Chances are if she is flirting, it is more due to her being more extroverted than anything. Any attempts at romance will likely go ignored or taken to be something more innocent in nature. She values people being blunt with her when it comes to what is on their mind as she cannot read peoples thoughts and is clueless about most attempts at romance, having been raised by a mother who was content with a lack of romance and a man who wouldn't know a romantic gesture if it bit him. That being said, she can be oblivious when it comes to others emotions and will occasionally need some prompting to realize someone is not their usual self unless the change is severe or very noticeable.
History
Garnet was born to Mayeve Sunsong (originally of the Stormrider Pavilion) within the Diamond Clan and Archon Sunsong who is part of the Ruby Clan. Mayeve was Archon's second wife but Garnet was his only child. His first wife had a few miscarries then hit a wall and was unable to conceive at all. Things were fine between both women for a while, but when Mayeve had Garnet and then her two younger twin brothers Agate and Jasper some jealously was felt. Mayeve had no problem having children and was healthy enough to keep popping them out. Nothing terrible ever happened between the women, there was just always a tension that Garnet can distinctly recall whenever she was near both of them. She was encouraged by her father to spend time with Archon's first wife, Yana, but anytime she did she always felt like her mother would be upset.
When Garnet was twelve Yana ended up dying while out on a hunt. Some rumors slipped between members of the Pavilion that Mayeve killed her, or caused her death, but Garnet never could say either way as her mother never spoke of it and did seem genuinely upset at the loss of her husbands first wife. Archon considered getting another wife once the mourning period had ended, but he never did, choosing to focus on his three children and teaching them how to hunt and how to tan hides and make things from them. Garnet always seemed less interested in these things as a young girl and was more focused on day dreaming, so much of the lessons were lost on her.
When Garnet turned fifteen she began trying to find a Strider to bond with. It proved more difficult than she anticipated and despite various attempts and true efforts the bond evaded her every time, until she turned sixteen and met a spirited young mare by the name of Aggra. She had been out, just a few yards away from her fathers Pavilion when she had heard the loud neighing. When she strayed from her Pavilion to investigate she spotted the mare caught up in some underbrush that had caught onto her tail and was too firmly rooted into the earth to be broken by her attempts. Aggra was not having anything Garnet attempted; if she tried to move around behind the horse she would just move to keep the young Drykas in her sight.
It took a few hours to finally coax Aggra into letting Garnet help. As Garnet cut the Mare free Aggra thanked her by kicking her square in the chest and taking off into the Sea of Grass. When Garnet woke up she had a few cracked ribs and a bruise on her head from where she had landed on a rock. She had been lucky her brothers had found her and been kind enough to drag her back to the camp.
After the encounter Garnet knew that was the horse. No matter how her father tried to convince her to just keep looking at other Striders, Garnet knew that mare was the one. It took a few days to convince her father to help her track the mare down, but eventually he agreed. They never stayed gone too long and so it took weeks before they found her, grazing on some short grass. Garnet managed to get close to her without spooking her and offered her a treat of some fresh oats and some apples she had managed to sneak away from the camp. The Strider always ran off after taking the treat, but after the first encounter it took less and less time and travel to find the Mare as she slowly moved towards the Pavilion on her own. After about two weeks of this back and forth, the mare finally followed Garnet back to the Pavilion, a tenuous friendship was struck between the two and a bushel of apples.
In the last few months Garnet has been inducted into Webbing by her father and shown the basics. Now that she knows how to find her Pavilion and Endrykas, she tends to wander off and explore while staying relatively close to Endrykas. While she loves her family she has the burning desire to find a new Pavilion and meet new people who she can share her fledgling Leather working skills with.
