Cosm

Postby Cosm on April 1st, 2016, 10:18 pm

Character Name

Appearance

Race: Ethaefal (Leth)
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown, though has been on Mizahar for about one year
Birthday: 38, Winter, 514
Birthplace: Cosm fell into the ocean bordering onto Lhavit

Appearance: A slight creature with large, silvery eyes and deep brown hair, his rather pale skin shimmers slightly under moonlight, and even in the day his iris can be seen shifting ever so slightly as the sun rolls lazily across the sky. His body is slight, and in either form he is no taller than perhaps six foot; whilst he is not particularly well muscled in his mortal seeming, he is not over or under weight. Generally run of the mill, in general. He remains clean shaven most of the time, and his hair is well kept and brushed back.

When the moon rises, his skin becomes even paler, mirroring marble-like hues whilst a brilliant display of interwoven horns run along his the centre of his scalp (mohawk-style) before blossoming into a stag-like display behind his head. His features became even slighter and sharper, his eyes large and expressive as the silver becomes deeper, seeming to have further layers beneath. His cheeks are high and jut outward, complementing the subtle roundness of his chin and the harsh slope of his brow. Even in this form, he is prone to smiling and displaying starkly white teeth.

Character Concept

As an Ethaefal, Cosm retains much of his detached mindset that was born of his heavenly ascension. Having been cut off from much of his past by his swift descension, he is prone to highly introspective moments as single images, frames of his past self, manage to worm their way into his consciousness.

In the day when he is taken by his mortal seeming, he is keen eyed, and quick to smile, finding conversation relaxing and generally warming as he engages with others. Though he can appear introverted and contemplative at first, he quickly blossoms into this relaxed and jovial state once he has been around any one individual for a while. He is constantly observing his surroundings despite this relaxation, and takes a deep interest in the way other people phrase their words, act, and generally ‘are’; one might notice his keen eye as he inspects another, or might notice the time it takes him to respond to another's comment.

Character History

Beginning with his fall from the realm of Leth, ‘Cosm’ as he came to be known on his first meeting with his soon to be mentor, found himself to be at a loss. As an Ethaefal, his lack of memory made his new home of Lhavit exceptionally strange; thankfully his swift encounter with the elderly astronomer ‘Driscoll’ put a swift end to his utter confusion. Discussion passed between the two of them for some hours as the sky grew ever darker, his Ethaefalian form appearing as the moon took its’ place above. Both were surprised a little by the change, though Cosm came to be more relaxed now that a little of his old celestial self had been restored to him. The two bargained together, deciding upon a pact of mutual beneficence; Cosm would work as an apprentice to the old architect, aiding his aging form in his work about the city.

Being in Lhavit, this elderly architect was acquainted with a few magical abilities, though his old age had dulled his mind and left most of these abilities long forgotten (not simply due to his age of course, but the toll that all magic takes upon the mind and body). This did not surface in the period of training that they had together in the month of Winter, 514, and instead the two focused on the earthly trade of architecture, and relaxed by sharing many of the twilit hours mapping the stars. As a result of his previous home (illuminated to him by Driscoll himself whom had met some Ethaefal in his time, thanks to the city in which he lived), Cosm took the greatest interest in the stars and the time the two shared in this pursuit of heaven gazing was perhaps the most ‘bonding’. Stone masonry and a little carpentry (though this extended to mere door knobs and minor furnishing) also played into the architectural training, though the bulk of the art was spent on selling one’s services of architectural drawing, which Cosm seemed good at, and even enjoyed as it shared similarities with his star maps.

This continued for perhaps the next year. The winter of 515 was a turning point in this relationship; the many years accumulated by the, only human, Driscoll, took its’ toll on his body. A culmination of health issues left him bed bound, and the two engaged only with infrequent lessons. As a means to pass on to Cosm a little more of his knowledge, knowledge that Driscoll thought would aid him in Lhavit, he began teaching him the very basics of Aurisitics, the one and only art that he could truly utilize in his bedridden state. Even tapping into this reserve of power was incredibly taxing, and the rush of information tired his old and withering mind swiftly, so the lessons extended into but the basest of things, and the theory behind the art. Taking these final lessons to heart, Cosm took up the notion that these parting gifts from his mentor were perhaps special. Those final days became important memories for him; this gateway that the old man had been into the world, it was not something to be squandered. If Driscoll had in him the notion to teach him these final things, he would do his utmost to listen and learn them. The winter passed calmly, until finally, Driscoll passed one night, in his sleep. His family was called the next day, before Cosm himself had to take his leave of the home in which he had stayed, owning no part of it.

Now, having moved out of the home with what little possessions and money he had acquired, Cosm lives alone in Lhavit, and sells his services of architectural drawing for the city to use. Taking an interest in the Auristics taught at the Dusk Tower as it is known, is where Cosm now begins in the Spring of 516. He sees in it perhaps something that intrigues him; beyond the world of the architect, the world of magic has something in it that enthuses him, something unique and different. Not only this, but perhaps as an homage to his teacher; this city, founded on the working of wonders, was not something to shut out.
