Vosk
______________________________________________________________

Race: Nuit
Gender: Female
Age: 622
Birthday: 104 BV
Birthplace: Alahea

Appearance

This is subject to change pending Gnosis Approval...

As someone with a true form long lost, Vosk' appearance differs from body to body. She has little preference for the bodies she does take, being perfectly fine with either gender, size, or disfigurement so long as the body suits her. The one constant as of late is her choice of garb; colorful flowing robes embroidered with hypnotic golden designs.

Her current body is that of a thin teenage girl, emaciated from the normal Nuit inhabitation process but perhaps moreso due to the original condition of the person it once belonged to. She has scruffy black hair, green eyes, and freckles adorn her face like flecks of mud. The body stands at a slightly sagging height of 5' 4". The well-proportioned nose is slightly disfigured from past conflicts involving the original owner of the body, but the ears are noticeably large though most wouldn't be able to tell.

Character Concept

Fond of magic, bright colors and anything that can alter her perception, Vosk is a creature looking for escapes from the monotony of her long life. Having lived for over six hundred years, most mundane things are dull to her and she prefers to toy with people rather than behave normally. Because of this, she is eccentric and has a mouth on her that is likely to get her into serious trouble. Her insatiable boredom is what moves her and drives her to be at times an extrovert, and her innate curiosity may cause her to be embroiled in the inner workings of something-or-other for long periods of time although her bright but twisted personality always finds a way to shine through.

She was created the traditional way, by way of Daek-Nuit. Her creator's take on the ritual sought to create a brand of the dead that was more open to taking risks and fitting in with humans by instilling them with boredom and colorful personalities, but the desired effect coupled with her history over time has left Vosk with warped desires and morals. Ever since the Valterran, she has had little value for life beyond her own and her close friend Kalere, another Nuit of the same breed with a similar mindset that has kept her mind from plunging into the doldrums.

She still values humans for the entertainment they can provide, rather enjoying shows and figuring out how they think and why they act. Their inner workings, their biology, their capabilities and their potential use to her has always intrigued her. She always thinks about what someone can do for her, rather than admiring an individual except in cases where their sheer power or deception has consumed her opinion of them. When speaking with others, she almost always goes by her last name Vosk rather than sharing her pointedly Alahean first name Yovynka.

Vosk views taking care of her own body as a dull and time-consuming process. Her ambition is to someday rid herself of her frailty while clinging to her immortality, almost in denial that she is considered undead. This ambition drives her to learn more about the mind, herself, her condition, and the arcana she performs. Because of this, she is an avid researcher sometimes lost in a passionate dance of frantic ideas and otherworldly concerns. Her grip on immortality tends to keep her from taking risks.

Religiously the witch was largely ignorant of the Gods until long years were spent holed away in an underground world with few other acquaintances. Naturally, she grew to respect Uldr, and the Isurian who taught her much also taught her the ways of Izurdin. Ionu, however, captured her true interest, and she adopted much of the Alvad culture surrounding him in a short time.

History

In the steppes and rolling hills of Alahea, Vosk was born under the name Yovynka Vosk to a family bled dry by the Alahean empire for the war effort. Ever since she was a small child, she showed promise that she might outgrow her family and become something more. That day never came. Instead, she married a single father with three children having no wish to have children of her own due to her stressful life that had only become more hectic with every passing year. Eventually, something out of the ordinary happened for the village. An ugly man that stank of rotting flesh waltzed into town with a booming voice for his small stature, warning that danger was imminent. He was regarded as a lunatic by the townsfolk. She thought nothing of it until that night screams warning of fire blossomed through the town. They said the Suvan had set fire to the fields and homes to reduce the supplies of Alahea, but there was no proof of their involvement. That night her husband and three children each died in their sleep, barred by roaring flames so that she could not reach them despite sustaining major burns in her effort.

Grief-stricken, Vosk was approached by the rotting man who revealed that he was a traveling animator. He offered to instruct her in magic in exchange for her servitude. With nothing to live for, she agreed. One thing lead to the next, and soon she agreed to be experimented upon in exchange for his teachings. He promised eternal life, but what she received instead was a life close to death, eternal, but weak and fragile. In her new body she expected to at least be taught by the man, but he taught her very little. In his muttering, he revealed that he 'set a fire' to recruit a 'useless apprentice' and at that point she left for the Alahean empire after feeling betrayed and blaming her creator for all that had happened to her.

In exchange for information leading to his capture - the practice of animating the dead was illegal outside of state-sanctioned facilities - Vosk was enrolled in a school for the magical sciences with her tuition paid alongside other Nuit and non-Nuit wizards. It was there that she met Kalere, her eternal friend. She found out that he was much older than she was. The two were slightly different in personality than the other Nuit but made a good match for one-another academically. Her studies encompassed some basics; basic magical theory, Nader Canoch, Auristics, Glyphing, and Shielding with a primary study of Projection. Alahea soon drafted her and Kalere as sleeper agents within the Suvan empire. From there they found further tutelage apprenticed to an Isurian Summoner obsessed with other worlds, gifted a hilltop observatory filled with several laboratories where wizards studied materials extracted from other worlds. Alahea became all but a footnote as the years went by, having received no messages from her true nation.

It was then that the unthinkable happened. Very little was known about the reason why, but everyone who prowled those halls knew a god had to be to blame. The Valterran came and swept away everything. Every Shielder in that underground compound fed their djed into a protective barrier set up around the base. The upper portion of the observatory collapsed, and so did some of the underground rooms in the large stone-hewn facility. It was an event that moved mountains, and it was a miracle that any of them survived. Miraculously, a population of 200 humans and a scattering of other races survived and began to subsist off of underground fungus provided by the Isurian who ran the place. Most of the wizards perished, leaving only a handful of researchers to devise ways for the new colony to survive, Vosk and Kalere among them. From sharing duties with these researchers she found herself initiated into Morphing, Voiding, and Projection while learning the basics of Malediction and Summoning.

In the coming years the Isurian began to grow mad, and in their bleak immortality so did Vosk and Kalere. Important figures to the colony, they began to use their influence to gradually bring the colony under complete control. By the time 20 years had passed following the Valterran, the humans were all but slaves to the wizard upper caste, both sides weary of one another. Vosk was forced to make bodies available when they sometimes weren't, and she wasn't alone in this task. As the years went by, she gradually saw the members of the colony as resources rather than potential allies. She helped to encourage the colony to breed and sustain numbers, a truly bleak time for the Nuit who could at best and only rarely make a single body last for up to a year before needing a new one.

The Isurian eventually passed from old age, leaving the two Nuit and a chosen few in charge. The wilderness became gradually more and more habitable, and it was difficult to stop people from leaving. She had grown attached to her little slice of humanity, and she wasn't about to let it go. However, things became more unstable and the population dwindled to unsustainable levels. Eventually, Kalere convinced her and the two of them organized an expedition to the city of Alvadas where they had studied in secrecy ever since.

However, upon Kalere's sudden disappearance, Vosk became interested in tales of a place called Sahova, a city for Nuit like her, where what she had learned could be further developed.
