This thread may be used for all Wind Reach, Thunder Bay, or Unforgiving related ideas you may have. Developments should be fully fleshed out and coded for posting. If you need assistance with coding, PM a storyteller and they can help you out. We are always in need of fun new locations, event ideas, holidays, and legends and you, our dear players, are the best sources of inspiration!

Refer to the tabs below for further information.

Flora

Code: Select all
Name: What's it commonly called?
Type: What kind of plant is it? (Tree, bush, fruiting, flower, herb, weed, vine)

Purposes: What is it used for?
Dangers: Any risks involved in getting it? Is the plant toxic? Other?

Fauna

Please, before you even consider doing a write up for a creature, be sure that you have read and understand all the information on Wind Reach! As I stated before, no 10,000 year old lava dragons. Thank you in advance.

Dangers: How dangerous is the animal to approach?

Locations

You cannot create a location that magically spawns gold and jewels from vapor or holes in the ground. No finding super wizard mega strong magic sticks or the like. Be fair! Flesh this out as much as you can so that those who may decide to play here will have a good idea of what they're working with. Don't leave any room for excuse to get mad at someone who isn't playing your coined location up to your par.

Refer to locations that have already been developed for some good ideas on how to structure what you have in mind. The format below is available as a reminder of what should be considered in a location.

Code: Select all

Location:

NPCs

Wind Reach is full of spicy characters to interact with, from craftsmen to fishermen, from eagle to Dek, and while we have a reasonable list already, it does not hurt to have more who you, dear players, can interact with in your threads. Because these will be city NPC's, you do not need to follow the NPC rules. Simply fill out the form below and submit it in this thread for review. You may see some tweaks to submissions from one of the storytellers in Wind Reach to help the NPC fit best with our domain. Once it has been approved, it will be added to the NPC Library where all players can use them. This is strictly for city NPC's. If you wish to create a personal NPC, you must still go through the Help Desk for that.

Stories, Myths, Legends, Fables, Customs, Holidays, Items, etc should all be completely fleshed out. Again, please sure that you have FULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND THE WIND REACH LORE! Check out everything before beginning here. These creations will be tricky, because we will be checking them for any deep flaw. We'll point them out so that you can fix them.

Helpful Tips

Here area few tips Phoenix wrote up that are useful when trying to develop fun and interesting things for the area.

1. Even though Mizahar is a world in and of itself, it is based off of a lot of things we find in our world, otherwise we wouldn't have any frame of reference to go off of. Don't think that because something is common on Earth, like wolves, that it can't be common in Miz. And trust me... wolves are common.

2. Start with the basics and build up from there. If you're developing a place, think
-Who
-What
-When
-Where
-Why
-How

Think about what you would see if you were standing there in your location. What smells do you smell? What do you hear? Why do you smell or hear these things? Why DON'T you hear common sounds? Why aren't there animals, why ARE there animals? A well thought out description of your location really adds to the RP experience for PC's when they use it in the future.

3. Creating creatures aren't that difficult either. The most important thing to keep in mind is that they should have a purpose. It would be a shame to spend time creating something beautiful and well thought out that can't be used to it's full extent by players.

4. Take your time. It's a process. Especially with creatures, attention to detail is key.

5. Have fun. This shouldn't be a chore. If you find yourself writing a location or animal that you just absolutely hate, start over.

Suggested Developments

Wind Reach, The Unforgiving and Thunder Bay need animals and plants to go along with most of these locations, but don't be afraid to create anything even if it doesn't have anywhere to go; we can always create locations FOR them!

We badly need:
 • Birds (Effected by Djed storm and not]
 • Water creatures for TB
 • Dangerous creatures for Unforgiving- threat to Inarta, travelers, game/prey AND Wind Eagles.
 • Things created/effected by the Djed Storm of 512 (Remember, WR and the area surrounding got hit hard by the initial blast, so this gives some awesome leeway for crazy ideas)
 • A Thanksgiving Festival/Holiday to the Wind Eagles for all they do for the City.

[Wind Reach] Development Suggestions Submission

Name: The Treasure Box
Location: The Market Place
Risks and Benefits: N/A - Market Stall
Fauna & Flora in the location: N/A - Market Stall
NPCs: Yannad - see below
Description:
The Treasure Box is aptly named, for it is a stall in the Market Place that is filled with trinkets and jewellery created by Yannad and any apprentice he might have.
The middle of the table is usually filled with jewellery ready to be purchased and worn right away. Necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets are the usual fare here. Various types of metal and any colour of stone you can think of are likely to be found here. The designs range in complexity, from simple items with one or no stones and no fancy metalwork, right up to intricately curling designs complete with a variety of gems.
Along the edges sits a selection of un-set stones of various colours and sizes. People can purchase these if they feel like it, but the purpose of this part of the display is for commission. If someone spots a particular stone that they would like to be made into jewellery, then they can request that at the stall and select the stone(s) they would like to be used. A stone does not have to be selected to request a commission however, the Treasure Box is more than happy to create metal-only designs.
Another request that they take is the modification of weapons and other metal objects. Yannad is more than willing to modify hilts of daggers, swords and similar items to add engravings and set gems.
The Treasure Box is usually manned by Yannad’s current apprentice as he is growing older and the bustle of the market often makes him tired.

Proposing an edit to a WIP NPC.

New
ImageName: Narth
Race: Inarta
DoB: 81st of Winter, 487AV
PoB: Wind Reach
Caste and Title: Endal, White Owl Flightleader
Skills: Medicine 65, Riding: Wind Eagle 60, Leadership 55, Persuasion 50, Weapon: Talon Sword 45, Herbalism 40, Teaching 35
Gnosis: Rak’keli 2
Abstract: Narth is a calm and easy going guy. He is known for his quick wit, and ability to diffuse most tensions. Although he is known for using words instead of fists, he is a formidable force when required. Narth is more apt to rush to a stranger’s aide than most Endal, and has earned a reputation for being too familiar with outside races. He focuses his skills and help on medicine and had found his calling with the White Owls, taking to leadership among them natural. He always works with the benefit of Wind Reach in mind.
Wind Eagle: Evek

Old
Name: Narth
Race: Inarta
PoB: Wind Reach
Title: White Owl Flightleader
Skills: Medicine 56, Persuasion 37, Riding (Wind Eagle) 64, Diplomacy 50, Leadership 25
Moderation Required: No

Narth is a very calm and easy going guy who prefers to talk out a problem rather than simply solve it with fists. More apt to rush to a strangers aid than most Endal, Narth dabbles in healing on the side as well as relations with outside races. Normally given flack for this by other, tougher Endal, Narth has found his calling with the White Owls and continues to do good with them and his Flight-mates.

Both Yannad and Narth's rewrite have been approved. Kiah, if you come back let me know and we'll work together on putting up The Treasure Box location. Narth's rewrite will be added to the NPC database presently.

Hirro
ImageName: Hirro
Race: Inarta
DoB: Winter 474
DoB: Wind Reach
Caste and Title: Avora, Stationer
Language: Nari
Skills: Papermaking 60, Bookbinding 50, Writing 40, Carpentry 30, Leatherworking 30, Sewing 30, Philtering 20
Abstract: Hirro is a quiet man, he mostly keeps to himself and prefers not to talk with others. He has chosen a very niche and uncommon profession, specifically for that purpose. Hirro has no particular passion for papermaking or bookbinding, but he excels at his work and finds it keeps him out of the way of most things. He is the only Avora with his skill set and yet he makes for a terrible teacher, which often means he cycles through apprentices quickly, since he cannot seem to instill the passion and love for his work into those he teaches.

Outside of his work, Hirro remains a hermit, although he is known to indulge in Temper more so than others in his caste. Some would think that it contributes to his generally mellow attitude and is the cause for his dislike of other people, since Inarta are loud and boisterous. Although his habit doesn’t very much interfere with his work, so no one has raised any issue with the Avora’s use.

Dani
ImageName: Dani
Race: Inarta
DoB: Spring 491
DoB: Wind Reach
Caste and Title: Chiet, Stationer’s apprentice
Language: Nari
Skills: Copying 30, Climbing 30, Writing 20, Bookbinding 25, Papermaking 15, Leatherworking 10, Sewing 10, Carpentry 10
Abstract: Dani is a very straightforward girl with little tolerance for any lack of seriousness. She often doesn’t get the joke and hates chit-chat, but she is otherwise fairly enjoyable to be around. Like all Inarta she is quick to temper, blunt, and hardheaded. Still she is a devote friend and loyal to those she cares about, if they can put up with her thick skull. She enjoys rockclimbing for the thrill of it, but otherwise does not enjoy the outdoors, actively avoiding work that puts her out there.

Dani has been known to float between jobs, not having found any skill she showed proficiency in until she began working for the Enclave. She excelled as a coper, but wanted more tangible results for her hard work, and so she caught Hirro’s eye. She is currently the apprentice of Hirro with the hopes of becoming an Avora stationer as well. Unlike his other apprentices, she does not find his lack of enthusiasm for his own craft daunting, as she understands the necessity of the job, and how very few Inarta know it exists let alone would like to do it. She also knows that it is the quickest way to get her to the Avora caste, which makes the job much easier.

[Wind Reach] Development Suggestions Submission

Postby Red Daghul on January 19th, 2019, 6:07 am

So just a idea, wasn't sure if this was the format to type it in as it is a item, but figured I would post it and see what yall thought.

Name: Wasn't entirely sure what to name it

Description:
A curved knife much like a Karambit, it has a inverse curve and is mainly used for skinning animals and duels. The blade functions much like that of a Talon on a bird, a common practice to remove the sight of a foe, or cut through muscles

A common weapon to be made out of stone, though many Endal have been known to carry blades made out of metal much like the Talon swords they carry. It is not uncommon to see them dueled wielded.

History:
First developed as a tool for farming, and skinning it wasn't long before it was utilized as a weapon though the legends about how they came to be differ from group to group as well as who was the first caste to even put into practice. The Endal of course hold that it was a Wind Rider that first brought the art into play.

Since then it has become a common tool for a Endal to carry during their hunts though more for practical use rather than fighting. Their are some though who are well versed in the "dance" as it has been called, and watching them preform in a fight is a true feat.

Fighting styles:
Though there are many different styles that one may choose to learn they each could be described as a dance being more of a dexterity rather than strength. Blade grips change the style of fighting one might use, and differ the range and motions used in combat though most of the fighting uses the sharpness of the blade to add cuts to the foe in rapid succession. Much like a bird uses their talon in a fight, the user may use the blade to blind, or sever tendons to make a larger foe an easier target.
They are also used to grab opponents to pull them of guard, or throw them. Using the curve in the blade as a lock of sorts to get a better handle on their enemy.

NPCs
Name: Eshryd
Race and Gender: Inarta Female
DoB: 37th of Winter, 491 AV
PoB: Wind Reach, Kalea
Caste and Title: Dek
Main Skills:
Body Building +63
Cleaning +40
Organization +35
Acrobatics + 22
Gnosis: None
Abstract: When Eshryd was born with golden eyes, great things were expected for her future, but it didn’t take long for those watching to realize there was something abnormal about the child. She didn’t cry or make noise, even when hungry or soiled. Her parents and those eager to see fresh, promising faces among the ranks of the Endal began to doubt, and a shadow was cast over the bright hope her birth had brought. As the days turned to weeks turned to months, it became apparent the child would make no sound.

Though she was mute, she still went through the typical Yasi schooling and training, learning many of the skills and trades that were common to Wind Reach and immersing herself in every scrap of knowledge she could. As much as she learned though, the failure of communication led her to seem slower than her fellow Yasi, and as she approached adulthood, the Avora watching her progress recommended that the Valintar make her a Dek. She was too difficult to teach, at least as quickly as the other adolescents, and the decision was made.

To say Eshryd was not disappointed with the decision would have been a lie, but she was a bright spirit, one thing that had not gone unnoticed by the Avora who had tutored her. It was her bright spirit that gave her hope that her future might not always be spent as a Dek, and to those around her, she seemed content with her place in their society. Her smile was infectious, and even among the mistreated Dek, she brought a shadow of happiness. Where there used to be no joy, there was now an inkling of it, enough to make the other Dek uncomfortable. They were unfamiliar with it in the way Eshryd brought it, but over time, the Dek came to accept it and her as their own.

Despite her bright spirit, the cruel reality of her situation quickly became apparent in the weeks following the Valintar assigning her to her caste. Eshryd’s only defect was her voice, and her beauty certainly wasn’t lacking. The men of every caste other than her own sought her out, and Eshryd didn’t have a voice to deny them. Even if she had, she didn’t have the power. But every new day, she faced with happiness and hope, and so most everyone assumed she was content.

She was not content though. Those who watched closely suspected she knew more than she let on, that she was smarter and wiser than she was given credit for, that if given the opportunity she would excel at many things. Those who had participated most in her training in her younger years saw the potential and saw her will to achieve it.

Currently, she is one of the sturdiest, strongest, and hardiest in her caste, making her a prime choice when Dek are needed for labor of many kinds. Leo, in particular, uses her often in his experiments as she tends to be more durable than most. She communicates mostly through a made-up language of hand signs that few in the higher castes understand.

Yikes, I hadn't realized how long some of these had been left waiting. You guys can nudge me if something has been sitting for a while! Regardless, Lani's requested NPCs have been approved and added to the database. The only alteration I made was to change the term 'apprentice' to 'attendant' in regards to Dani. She would not be a Chiet if she was Hirro's apprentice; she would be an apprentice Avora.

Moving on, I feel as if Red's fighting style/weapon suggestion is too incomplete to be added, as of yet. With some more development possibly, but Wind Reach already has the Talon Sword anyways so I'm reluctant to add another special city related weapon without some serious developmental work. If Red comes back, or if someone else would like to handle that development, feel free to get in touch with me.

Finally, Eshryd has also been approved and added to the database. Thanks for filling out another Dek, we need more of them. I kept her skills and information unchanged, I just added a picture for her. Hope you approve of it, let me know if you want something else.
