Leyus

Basic info

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Birthday: 7th of Fall, 491 AV
Birthplace: Zeltiva

Likes: Winter, good literature, solitude, sea and dark places.
Dislikes: Loud people and noisy places, hot weather, sand and his own moments of weakness.

Religion: Leyus is a worshiper of Akajia, the goodness of Night, Shadows, Darkness, Secrets, Stealth, things he values the most for himself and has felt attraction to for his whole life. Despite his deep loyalty to this goodness, he isn't member of the Irst, mostly because he doesn't like to be tied with one group of people. He respects all other gods and goddesses, but calls out for none other than Akajia.

Appearance.

Physical appearance: Leyus is rather tall, hitting almost 6'4" and average built, though slimmer than most. Because of this he lacks physical strength, but is rather swift on his foot. First thing that anybody would notice about him is the way he walks, smoothly, with wide steps and always straight back, like a person who is, or at least tries to make everyone believe that he is, always calm and sure about his abilities. But, if you don't count this, he is rather gray and rarely noticed, which comes in handy for him most of the time. Short, sand colored hair, gray eyes and manner to always dress in dark, simple tones. Nothing to stand out in a crowd. His face is thin lined, with straight nose and deeply sunken eyes, that give him some sort of predator like charm. Very specific charm, that only some fall under to. Young man has surprisingly long and slender fingers thanks to his Vantha ancestors from father's side. But, unlike any Vantha, he has pale skin and much lighter hair and eye color, so his connection to these northern people can only be seen in very few minor hints, that he still carries.

Personality: Leyus is very cold and reserved. Polite when necessary, rude when needed, always stern and firm. Speaks when there is an urge, but mostly stays silent, preferring to listen and observe. He is a man of necessity, for he won't do almost anything without a clear goal or need, except very few things. This is what concerns complete strangers or people he has to deal because of work. To those who have managed to get through his ice like barrier he appears as completely different man, still a little bit cold and introverted, but undeniably loyal and ready to help. These people even witness his rare smiles, not sarcastic grins or deadly polite masks, but real and genuine smiles, even laughter. It is hard to get close to him, as he is always on his guard and sees threat in almost everything, but when you do, he will always be there for you.
As anyone Leyus has his strengths and weaknesses. He is undeniably strong in mind and spirit, can keep control of himself, but because of constant mask wearing he is sometimes visited by controversial thoughts and feelings, that often turn into anger, hate and fear. In such times he can lose his control and do things that he will later on regret.

Character History

Leyus was born thanks to short flame of passion and lust between human woman and Vantha man, that they then believed to be love. But life had different plans and his father, who's name his mother, Alhvria Ranndrios, kept secret till her last breath, lost most of his feelings and so traveled back to his beloved homeland. (His name was Kyarlli Coolwater and he kept this short relationship in secret). At first Alhvria thought that this handsome traveler has gone leaving nothing behind, but she was mistaken, because as moths passed shocking truth was revealed, she was pregnant. Alhvria had no close relatives and lived in poverty of Zeltiva's lowest ranking servan, so it wasn't easy for her to keep alive and fed not only herself but her newborn son as well. Despite all the hardships, she did her best. First few years were pure hell. There was no money, almost no food, and baby wasn't easy to look after having no one to ask for help or guidance. Alhvria had only one good friend, Lireesa, but she married and traveled to Syrilas almost immediately after Leyus was born.

As time passed and Leyus turned five, things did get a little bit better. Alhvria got slightly higher position and now she was able to breath with more freedom, as starving wasn't so likely anymore and Leyus had grown into smart and cheerful child. Mother and son loved each other deeply and their tiny house was always filled with smiles and laughter.

Growing up, Leyus turned out to be extremely curious. Because of this he came to know their neighbor, old man named Herwith, who had tought writing and storytelling in the College of Scholars, but after many years of working there he became a little bit mad and was kicked out. Nonetheless, for young Leyus he was almost a deity, because of how much he knew. He tought young boy how to read and write, told him many things about Zeltiva, history, gods and goddesses. Old man even gave him few books to read, that made Leyus happier than he could ever be. At this time he started to dream about going to University and learning everything he could.

But time was harsh with him, and old man, whom he loved as a father he never had, passed away from his age. This left deep trace on boy, who was only ten years old then, his gaze slowly turned away from University, though his dream wasn't forgotten. At that time he started to explore the port of Zeltiva, a place that bloomed with all sorts of different ships and people of all kinds and races, though mostly mercenaries. Here he learned how to listen, find and observe. Thanks to this he was able to lead much about the world he lived in. Leyus even learned basics of Vani, language of his ancestors, to whom he felt strange, unstable, but still, a connection. Thanks to years spent here boy became more careful, quick and sharp with his tongue.

But after these rather sunny days new strike came. His mother got sick in the middle of winter of 506, when Leyus was fifteen years old, at first it seemed like nothing serious, but as sickness grew the both, Leyus and Alhvria, understood, she will die. But if mother accepted it in her last days, son refused to, till last bits of life left her. When it finally happened, he almost went mad, screaming and crushing everything he could, crying for his dead mother, whom he had loved so much. Now he was alone.

First year almost killed him too. There was almost no money left from his mother, so Leyus tried to find work, but no one wanted to take such young man with sparks of madness in his eyes as a servan. Food packages weren't an option because with each day he looked more and more wild, closing his way to most of the public places. Month passed, money ended and he starved for two weeks. In suck desperate state there was nothing left for him than beg on streets. After first day of doing so he understood, he'd rather die than continue. And so Leyus started stealing. At first he was terrible at it, almost got caught several times and usually returned to his shaggy home with empty hands. But as spring passed and summer started he got used to such life and got more and more skillful in what he did. At the end of summer he almost had enough to feel like he really had something. Life had shown mercy and let the boy survive.

As years passed he left stealing behind his back and started something trickier, sometimes more dangerous, but with more income, spying. Getting information that merchants and the wealth, his main clients, wanted wasn't easy and promised big trouble, but Leyus was smart enough to avoid most consequences. He learned the streets, people and best places in both market and tavers, though last ones had very specific time and place of being active, as they didn't give much of choice in drinks or anything else.

And so he managed to live on.
