I have six arms and one brain.
If you only have two arms, what does that say about your ability to think?
Keep your teeth together and do as your betters command.

Appearance & Attitude:
Rhodri holds to the traditional view of his people that beauty is something that demands attention and worth the effort. The young man spends his mornings getting clean and inspecting his form. There is no situation that Rhodri feels is beneath taking the time to look his best. While being reduced to having to work for a living, the young Eypharian has resorted to cheaper cloths and equipment. That being the case, Rhodri takes very good care of what few possessions he still has. Rhodri always keeps his appearance neat and tidy. It is part of his demeanor to look good because he views himself as being better than other people -especially non-Eypharians. His hair is always kept neatly trimmed and styled to be longer on top yet intentionally messy. His beard is immaculately cut to not only be even but soft.

Physical exercise, a decent diet and proper mental outlets are all kept in an organized schedule which allows Rhodri the opportunity to always look his best. He’s tall and has broad shoulders, even for an Eypharian. The man’s a pillar of lean muscle that’s build to be agile as well as aggressive. Rhodri’s skin is a smooth and even tan that turns gold in Syna’s rays or the light of a fire. He has deep brown eyes which seem to be almost jewel-like in their ability to reflect what he sees. Rhodri has a strong jawline that creates a clean edge to ever expression he makes which gives off a haughty air. Rhodri is religious about his posture to keep a straight back and firm bottom. He believes that he was born above most people which is why he grew to be so tall and a good stance displays that characteristic. Occasionally, he will smile and it’s a charming grin but his present situation mixed with his arrogance has kept Rhodri from letting his smile shine. He often looks serious or uninterested depending upon his company. At all times, he gives off the vibe that he’s looking down upon others.

A History of Six Arms:
There was a long period of time where Rhodri only knew of one life. He was born to parents who had six arms and a lot of money. He belonged to a large family which had a great amount of wealth and influence. The size of the family was a blessing but also a curse. He had a lot of cousins, aunts and uncles who stood in his way of advancement. As he progressed through the paces of his education and training, Rhodri began to pass up his relatives in ability and potential -all but his first cousin, Huruukh. Though shorter, Huruukh was stronger, faster and had an innate understanding of politics.

Rhodri could never get one step ahead of his cousin and even in fair competitions would often lose because Huruukh was an amazing athlete. As the years went on, Rhodri and Huruukh put a good deal of distance between themselves and the rest of the family's hopeful candidates for positions of power. For Rhodri's parents, this was not acceptable. They pushed him from all angles. His father, Mukhush, was physically abusive and a tormenting trainer. He pushed his son to exhaustion on a regular basis in hopes that his abilities would improve. Eyphri, his mother, was a cruel and cunning woman. She used subtle techniques and manipulations to continually challenge Rhodri's decision and character.

After his early adolescence had been filled with these kinds of days and nights, Rhodri grew into a mean young man. He was mean in spirit but also in his presence. Servants were never treated kindly and should anyone of equal or lower standing ever interrupt him, there would be blood. This pleased his arrogant parents for they felt the only way their son would rise to power was if he was mean enough to take it.

This all culminated one night while the heads of the family gathered after a meal. They were discussing a particularly delicate business venture that involved another house of Eypharians and a small contingent of Dhani. Like most of their race, Rhodri's family felt all other races were born to serve them so making an intentional choice to be partners was no small decision to consider. In an antechamber away from the shot-callers, Rhodri and his cousins along with several aunts and uncles idly talked about meaningless things or did their best to be insulting without getting caught.

Wine is plentiful along the great river and this group of Eypharians had consumed a large amount in their time of waiting. The insults became less and less subtle until accusations and name-calling was being shouted while shoving matches ensued. Nauturally, the two biggest locked up with one another. Rhodri and Huruukh took to their family's unique wrestling style that involved locking fingers on all six hands and trying to gain leverage through sheer force over one's opponent.

The two behemoths played give and take for almost fifteen minutes before the elders of the family arrived and demanded to know what was the cause of the ruckus. Huruukh was a dutiful young man and instantly let up at the sign of authority instinctively thinking that his cousin would do the same. However, Rhodri didn't even blink. He flung his cousin against the far wall with great force. The big body smashed into a table that caved under the weight. The glass pitchers, decanters and tumblers all shattered and pressed their thousand pieces into the flesh of Huruukh.

Despite calls for the fighting to stop, Huruukh got up from the ground with his skin riddled by cuts and slashes. The shorter, stockier Eypharian charged Rhodri but in his anger he forgot to aim low. Rhodri watched as his cousin sail at him like a pouncing lion. At the last minute, Rhodri drew up his aclis and hit a full length swing in opposition to Huruukh's trajectory. The blow was a lucky shot but perfectly timed. Huruukh was dead when he hit the floor in a lifeless pile of limbs.

Huruukh's father was the most powerful man in the whole family but his mother still ran things. He wanted Rhodri killed for his crime but was unable to convince the ruling group to do what was right; a life for a life. It was only through his parents' pleading that Erruukh -Rhodri's uncle- was overruled by a large enough majority and Rhodri was allowed to live.

...but there was a catch.

Rhodri had to leave Ahnatep and could never return lest he face his uncle in a fight to the death. Rather than attempt to traverse the great sands, the young Eypharian decided to head north. He knew stories and heard talk of great warriors in a city on a river. Rhodri had even seen a few of the giant blue brutes but only from a distance. With shame in his heart but arrogance on his face, the young man with six arms negotiated his way into a trade caravan heading to Riverfall.

What happened next is something that changed Rhodri's life.
What happens after that just might change the world.

Lores:
  1. Eypahrian Culture: Aladjunn - the study of heritable traits
  2. Sagallius - Master of Puppets

Faith:
Rhodri has little use for the gods. Well, had little use for them until one took notice and gave him a reason to pay attention and -in part- to become obedient.

    "Sagallius is a fickle individual who treats all of his followers as puppets. He pulls a string here and the puppet moves one way, he pulls a string there and the puppet moves another way. You are a puppet just as much as you may control your own. Manipulation is the key here and you are required by Sagallius to pull the your own strings to better serve him. Never forget that his gifts require you to manipulate others, preferably at a distance. The best followers are able to manipulate others into doing things without ever having to force them, threaten them or otherwise overtly influence them. Do that and you will flourish. Defy that and risk being tossed aside as if you were a broken toy." ~Gillar

A Tale of Pain and Strings :
The decision had been made.

Rhodri was cast out from his home. The alternative was death but to the spoiled young man it felt relatively the same. The Eypharian knew very little about the world and even less about what lay beyond the influence of his family. Like many of his race, Rhodri had been raised to look down upon the world that was different from him. The people were commoners and bums; meant to worship the divine race of multi-armed men and women. After having this ingrained for over a decade and a half, the adolescent warrior was told he would now have to make his way in their world among the filth. Needless to say, Rhodri was nearly sick with the idea.

He was given a pack that held the barest of essentials and told that he had until nightfall the next day to leave. Rhodri hadn’t the slightest clue what it meant to survive. The youth had never hunted, built a fire or erected a shelter but was now being told that he was going to have to learn or he could die. For the first time in his life, Rhodri was scared.

The next morning, the outcast Eypharian woke to his same routine. Rhodri got out of bed and stretched his arms and legs. He took almost an entire bell to perform light exercises that loosened his muscles as his brain slowly wrapped around the concept of never sleeping in his bed again. His syrup-colored eyes looked at the mat of feathers and silk sheets wondering what he where he would lay his bones tonight. It was during this period of reflection that Rhodri’s father entered the room very quietly. When the young man turned around, he jumped back a few feet; startled by the presence of his patron.

“What are y-“

Rhodri was shushed by Muhkush who move in very close and began to whisper. “Don’t talk and listen.” The man’s normally imposing face seemed older today with lines that crossed the tanned skin. “I’ve arranged for a ship to take you to Riverfall. The blue apes are great warriors of discipline and it’s a clean city. You should be able to maintain a decent life there until you can come back and take your rightful place in this family.” The man gave a double squeeze on Rhodri’s big shoulders then left and never looked back. The teenager looked down at a small piece of paper that appeared in his hand. It was marked with a symbol his father used to notate exceptional gains in his ledger. For the briefest moment, the condemned youth realized that he was going to miss his parents as well despite their questionable techniques for education and behavioral modification.

By the tenth bell, Rhodri had made his way out of the city and down to the harbor. His father’s symbol lingered in the young man’s mind as he shuffled through the crowd. Even though he had been shunned, Rhodri walked with great posture and an arrogant pride but today it was forced. The handsome specimen did his best to avoid touching any of the slaves or lesser species. He was so busy keeping his nose in the air that he nearly missed his father’s mark on a vendor’s stall selling waterskins. Rhodri made several calm turns of his head to see if he could spot anyone taking a particular interest in him. Sensing that everything was going to be alright, the man approached the vendor and asked for a leather pouch of water.

The short man had strange eyes and he leered at Rhodri for a moment as if he didn’t recognize him. The Eypharian produced the piece of paper with the matching cartouche and waited a few ticks as a look of impatience crept over his face. The cart’s owner smiled a hideous little grin with his lopsided features and retrieved a waterskin with the same emblem branded into the horn. He passed it to Rhodri then waved his ugly little fingers. This brought a young Benshiran lad running over who kept his eyes on his feet. “Can I h-he…hheelllp you with your bag, master?”

“No.” Rhodri replied without emotion. He nodded to the vendor then took a step to the side of the smelly beings. “Yet, I wish that more of your pathetic race would act with such propriety –things would run much smoother if they did.” The Eypharian was suddenly ware of a large group of his kind heading in his general direction. He snapped out at the boy with his words and moved to strike him but he stayed his hand. He didn’t know how filthy the kid was and didn’t intend to find out. “Take me to my ship, mbene shure!”

The boy did his job and Rhodri was soon standing on the deck of a large schooner bound north for Riverfall. “Blue apes…” he repeated his father’s words aloud. The boy wondered why his mother had not come to say goodbye; perhaps her grief over the situation was too strong. The tanned lad with the handsome face watched as his entire world shrank on the horizon. He could see only a line as Syna began to set and it was at this time that Rhodri decided to always face his destination rather than his past.

A few weeks had passed and the ship had begun to ascend the slim channel of the lower Suvan Sea. The weather was still warm but there was a much higher humidity. Unlike the arid and stripping winds of the desert regions of Rhodri’s home, these breezes were refreshing and invigorating upon the skin of the recipient. One day, Rhodri was walking about topside when there was a call at the front of the ship. He turned to walk towards the bow but found himself confronted by three men who kept their faces covered with rags, had wind-torn clothes and weapons. Rhodri smirked. He had a weapon, too.

The fight was short-lived. Overwhelmed in both number and skill, the Eypharian only remembered the hissing laughter as his eyes rolled back into his head. When he awoke, he was bound to a mast below decks with multiple bruises, cuts and a plethora of aches and pains. He tried to call out but found his mouth had been gagged by some kind of fabric tied around his head. Soon, the three figures came into view with their face still shrouded. Rhodri fought against his restraints to no avail but the look in his eyes was very clear that he would pull them apart limb from limb once he was free.

“Ssssuurrr, mate. You’ll what?”

The trio broke out in laughter. One moved off to a side and started to rummage through Rhodri’s backpack. He produced the aclis and began to twirl it around like it was a mace with the anchor serving as a flail. Rhodri rolled his eyes. Not only was he going to be beaten with his own weapon but the idiots were going to use it improperly while passing the licks! Never one for resignation, the young man began to desperately look for a way out –something that he could leverage to his advantage. Some coins fell out of his pack when the boat shifted in the waves. Rhodri had his chance.

With all of the volume he could muster, Rhodri began to scream through the gag. His eyes pleaded for a moment’s worth of speech. The man wielding the aclis strode forward with the seasoned steps of a sailor as his body naturally compensated for the sway of the ship in deeper waters. He began to swing the anchor around on a short lead of chain –perhaps one foot- but was stopped by a hand signal from his counterpart. The larger man walked ahead and stuck his grimy fingers behind the gag being deliberately slow. Rhodri felt his stomach heave as the salty sour crud from under the man’s fingernails brushed against his tastebuds. Not only had he been bested but now he was being humiliated. His chest squeezed in rage and shame; possibly the most spiteful cocktail for an arrogant man to swallow.

“Got ssssomethin’ to ssssay, meat?” The man’s tongue flicked out of the shadows that covered his face and for the first time, Rhodri knew who his captors were and now knew why he’d be targeted.

Though it bothered him to do so, Rhodri swallowed the lump in his throat and stretched his jaw. This was a normal response to having one’s mouth held agape but it also bought him a moment to consider his words carefully.

“Sssspit it out!” The Dhani with his aclis barked.

“I know my uncle paid you to kill me.” Rhodri began. He darted his gaze between then three thugs and caught a casual exchange from one and a worried glance from another.

“Sssso you know who wantssss you dead. Do you want a prisssse?” The apparent leader cocked his head and started to move aside for his armed companion.

“Wait!” Rhodri’s voice was a command, not a plea. He recoiled a bit against the mast then continued before any of the lesser wits could protest. “Whatever he paid you, I can double it!” All three of the sailors straightened up, the glint of gold in their eyes. The Eypharian knew he had his shot and was not about to waste it. “Let me go.” The trio erupted in laughter. Rhodric waited until the noise subsided. His head dropped to one side as the ship rocked sharply then righted itself.

“Let me go, I’ll tell you what to say to sell that I’m dead. You get paid.” The brown eyes caught another glimpse of piling gold in the eyes of his jailors. “When I come back, I will pay you the same amount. My family is wealthy.” He let the words soak in for a moment.

“Too rissssky. Let’ssss kill him now.” The aclis-weilding fiend chimed in.

“No…he’ssss right. They are sssstinking rich.” The man in the back added.

~~~
A bell later, Rhodri was sitting in a small rowboat bound for the shore with a smile on his face and all of his belongings except a ruby and gold necklace that had been a gift from his mother and a piece of his shirt with some…well, a lot of blood. The man with six arms rowed with his lower set while he took a drink with his middle set and stared at the right upper hand wrapped in a blood-soaked bandage. The chop of the lower Suvan was rough but the air was warm as were Syna’s rays. Rhodri managed just fine with the labor of rowing ashore simply because he could rotate out different sets of arms when one got tired so there was no need to stop. Despite being a cast away, the teenage Eypharian was smiling.
It took the man a good long while to get to shore and that’s mostly because the currents carried him as far north as he went east. Finally making landfall was an occasion worth celebrating. Rhodri hopped out in the shallows and dragged the boat up into the sandy soil which was the color of ash. He let out a good long cheer and a laugh then rubbed his hands together. He felt the calluses and blisters but he didn’t care. He had managed to survive being taken captive and was now standing on the cusp of a new land with a mindset to conquer it. Surely, an Eypharian could easily rule over whatever drivel resided here.
“That’s quite the ego you wear, young man.” The voice of an older man floated across the soft lapping of the waves and to Rhodri’s ears. He spun around to find the source. The words were in Arumenic –his native tongue- and it’s not something one would expect to hear so far from home. The soft brown orbs fell upon a man dressed in exquisite robes and finery. He sat on a cushioned bench behind a fire while a Pycon flitted about here and there preparing some kind of drink, tending the fire and whistling happily. The clay figure was built like a tiny monkey but with six total limbs, two heads and three tails. The man, however, was just a man. He had two arms and two legs and his skin was the strangest color as if he were infected with metal but not like an Isur.
“Sit, lad. Sit and have some tea.” The man made a motion with his hand and the little Pycon scurried to fetch a second stool that Rhodri could use as a seat. Stunned and almost feeling like he wasn’t in control of his own body, the tired youth walked over and sat down. He abhorred mere humans but he felt obligated to heed this old man. “I know you have questions but you’ll find your mouth not willing to cooperate so I suggest just taking a listen. Hmm?”
It was like the man was a step ahead of Rhodri the entire time. The mention of not being able to speak cause the Eypharian to try and open his mouth but it didn’t work. His jaw refused to comply! Rhodri stood in a huff but was quickly seated once more without anyone else moving or laying a hand upon him. The confusion on his face was clear and there was a hint of fear welling up behind his eyes. The old man laughed a dry and hollow chortle. Rhodri put his hands; all six of them, into his lap and looked over with a helpless expression at his ‘host’.
“There’s a good lad. Now, let’s get started.” There was a twinkle in the old man’s eye. He seemed to be mad by the way that he looked around at the world but his power was almost palpable and there was no denying his intelligence. Rhodri felt like his arrival on the beach had been an expected event. “You crave power. I can smell it on you. Desert folk are two sorts; masters or slaves.” The old man leaned in and gave Rhodri’s leg a quick smack. “You’re a master or at least you want to be. I know. I know.”
The Pycon passed between the two full-sized bodies and set drinks down. The old man took a sip of his then cast it into the fire. He then went on a five chime tirade about the difference between good and bad tea. The entire time, Rhodri was bound by some invisible force. He felt it somehow and began to search for the signs of it. However, when the old man continued to speak to him in a normal tone, the young man listened. “Power must come first. Some people want love or they chase money but these things are meaningless!” The old man orchestrated his hand gestures in accordance with his emphasized speech. It was quite the display. “The truth is that when you have real power you can take wealth and women will flock to you.” The old man leaned in to Rhodri’s face. “Everyone wants to be close to someone powerful.”
It was in this moment that Rhodri saw the tiny strings that hung from his limbs went right back to the hands of the old man. His brown eyes went wide and the old man laughed when he sat back onto his cushion. “Yes! Yes! He sees!” The old man started shouting at the Pycon. “He sees them!” The Pycon started to dance as if commanded to do so. The Eypharian could now see the strings that ran from the old man to the Pycon as well. He was terrified, awed and completely excited at the same time. If it was possible, Rhodri thought he might melt from the overload.
The old man calmed down and looked over to his seven foot tall puppet. “Are you up for the challenge of bearing my gift? This gift?” He held up his hand to display the thin cords which ran to Rhodri’s body. The young man nodded. “This is a step in the direction of true power but you need to understand a few things, m’boy. Few things you’ll need to understand, that is certain.” The old man flicked his wrist and the cords broke. Rhodri slumped a bit and felt lighter. He moved his six arms and two legs around as if testing whether or not he was truly in control of his own body once more. He opened his mouth to speak but the old man continued.
“I have an initiation of sorts. Two people receive this ability at the same time. One gets the rules of the game and the other gets the name of his opponent.” There was another twinkle in the man’s eye. Rhodri was already having a hard time trying to decide. The old man laughed. “You will have to fight this man someday to attain the next level of pow-“
“Give me his name!” Rhodri boomed. He hadn’t spoken in a while and the response was far louder than he expected. The old man laughed again, this time with a bit of a squeal at the end.
“I knew it! Ooo! I had it pegged, didn’t I, Petch?” The old man looked right and the Pycon who looked up with both heads and grinned then nodded in alternating fashion. Rhodri watched in mild disgust at the small clay…thing. The old man picked up on this and smirked. “Anyway, where was I?”
“The name…”
“Oh yeah!” the old man smacked his own knee this time. “Why, it’s your uncle Erruukh!” The way the old man said that name made a chill run up Rhodri's spine. His face even lost some of its gilded sheen and was soon replaced with the rosy cheeks of anger. “Don’t worry, Rhodri. I have you all set up to get started on your long road to fulfilling your namesake.” The old man stood and held out the top of his hand before the six-armed exile. “Famously powerful. That’s what I am, no…that’s who I am.”
Rhodri cocked his head to one side and stared at the hand then looked up to the eyes that seemed to pierce his soul and he suddenly felt very insignificant. “Who are you?”
“I am Sagallius! You have shown yourself to be my kind of resourceful, Rhodri. Follow two simple tenets and I will reward you with my gift of control so that you may use it in your inevitable rise to power. Fail- and you’ll find that your climb to the top will always be an exercise in futility.”
Rhodri started to stand but ended up kneeling, his head bowed which brought him into contact with the fingers of the god. In a soft tone, he choked out a few phrases, his previously felt fear rekindled along with a doubled amount of excitement. “What shall I do? How do I gain your power?”
The old man idly twirled a lock of the black hair then laid his hand over the young man. “First, pray to me for my blessing when you come across a man in a green hat. Second…” the old man used his hand to lift Rhodri’s face so that their eyes could meet. “Learn how to wield my gift so that you can use it against Errukh!”
Without warning, Rhodri found himself along on the beach. There was no evidence of any fire or footprints anywhere. He was confused…beyond confused, he was angry and disappointed. With heavy steps and a heavier heart, the stubborn young man steeled his face and retrieved his pack from the small boat. There was a trail leading inland towards a ridge that he could use to get an idea of where he was and where he needed to go.
After walking for several miles, he heard voices and slipped down to one side of the trail. Rhodri remained silent and cautiously retrieved his aclis from his pack. Moments away from winding it up; a tall man passed by the Eypharian’s vision. He was wearing a green hat. The young man nearly cursed. So it hadn’t been a dream afterall! Rhodri closed his eyes and squeezed them tight. He was not the praying sort nor was he ever taught much reverence for the gods. Yet his encounter just bells earlier in the day changed his view of the deities of Mizahar entirely. In his mind he prayed to Sagallius.
Sagallius. You showed me your power. You told me to pray and so in your name, I ask for you to bestow me with your gift. I will learn to use it. I will do as you have said. You know my ultimate goal is true power. Show me what a taste of that feels like.
Just then, Rhodri felt a cold numbness grab his upper left thigh. It ached but didn’t hurt. It burned but it felt cold. The man grasped at his muscular leg with four hands and squeezed trying to stop the sensation. The aching was not unpleasant but noticeable enough that the young Eypharian undid his belt and dropped his pants to see what was going on. He was thinking he may have gotten bitten by some kind of insect but what he saw when his thigh’s flesh came to light was something else entirely. His golden skin was replaced by glowing blue chainmail that covered the bones of the big Eypharian. The detail of his leg bones was incredible and Rhodri ran his hand along it to see what it felt like. This mark ran from the crease against his pelvis down to just above his knee where his skin took over along a rough edge. “What sort of madness is this?” Rhodri said aloud as he touched his skin. It felt like skin but certainly didn’t look like it. When he pulled his hand away, he could see a set of those little strings dangling from his fingertips.
“Hey! By the gods, man, pull up your pants!” The man in the green hat was staring down at him from the trail’s edge. His Common was very plain. “You look like a normal kinda guy- strong, too. Give us a hand changing a cart wheel and we’ll help you get to where you’re going.”
Rhodri just blinked for a moment then shook himself out of his stupor. He pulled up his pants, hitched his belt and went on about helping the man in the green hat. It turns out that they had just changed plans and were heading for Riverfall, too.
Heirloom: Weapon: Aclis - While Eypahrians tend to shy away from clubs,
Rhodri's heritage has often used roped, chained or corded weapons as a way to
set themselves apart from their peers. The practice is viewed as graceful and
elegant despite using blunt force to deliver strikes. As such, the one Rhodri
carries with him is above and beyond the stick on a rope that one might expect.
First, the aclis is metal -cold steel, to be exact. While this was costly, Rhodri's
great-grandfather, Hasreeti knew that only the best would suffice. The man
knew his weapons. He paid extra so that the smith would put weight in the
striking end of the club and dress up the appearance with artistic engravings,
rings for grip and an anchor at the end of the chain which is used to maintain a
firm grip when the aclis is thrown.
