Welcome to Spring in Riverfall!
Overview
Last year I tried a very hands on approach with Riverfall in the form of granting players superpowers and then subsequently curses as godlings ran around the city causing havoc. It was discouraging to me that intensive plotting and planning did not exactly work out because I think players felt too intimidated by the level of roleplay to actively participate and include the godlings in their storylines. It was a fantastic opportunity that I felt wasted both my time and effort here. Sure some benefited from it if they put in the effort (and 50K words), even permanently, and those opportunities will come around again. But I needed time to lick the wounds. So then I tried a completely hands off approach and let Riverfall handle itself instead focusing on my busy life and Syka. That too wasn’t much good because the city felt completely ignored. Overall I feel trapped in a Goldilocks scenario where I’m searching for a bowl of oatmeal that’s just right in temperature and yumminess in terms of the gameplay here. Feedback is hard to get. No one wants to be a shinning star in the city. But the truth is each and every one of you have the capacity to be amazing roleplayers and the stars of Riverfall’s many scenarios.
How do we do this? Let me explain below.
We take one theme. One theme only... and we run with it. We try and hammer out as many threads as we can telling quality stories under that theme. There will be a prize at the end of the season for the person or group of persons that overwhelmingly expresses the theme we wish to put forth.
So what is the theme in Riverfall?
Renewal.
It's the perfect scenario for a new year, a new season, and a new journey into the future. Riverfall has been through a lot. Many people come to the city to recover because it is a relatively safe protected place to be. Others simply need to renew vows, find renewed purpose, and start on different pathways to find renewed hope for the future.
What does this mean for Players?
It means you write. You write all about renewal. There will be a host of prizes offered throughout the Season and at the end there will be a little voting contest and a grand prize will be awarded the player with the most renewal. That's the challenge. Potential prizes and rewards will be listed in a separate post at the end of this thread. I will help you with any and all scenarios you might need assistance or approval for. So what now?
We thread. We work our way through the trials and tribulations of Riverafall and what it entails. You must not fear to ask questions, push the roleplay, and include a wide variety of things in your scenarios. Include others. Get them excited. Leadership starts from within. If you have an idea run with it. If you stand quietly by the sidelines not much will get done. Fortune favors the bold.
