Kelwyn's Test

Fourth Day of Summer 516 A.V.

The Fourth Day Market festers with life, yet the place feels strange. The place felt akin to a battlefield, ripe with dissension. There was an unseen and unfamiliar hostility permeating the air, which seemingly originates from the merchants sitting patiently beside their wares.

Xen eyes the merchants, who appear unhappy and on edge. He knew he was not the cause of their displeasure because their gazes did not meet with his. Their displeasure is with the monks standing on guard, they too appearing hostile and seemingly ready for conflict.

“ Yeah, these guys can beat each other after I leave, ” Xen sneakily thought as he approaches one of the merchants selling knives, shields, and other lethal instruments. The man was taller than his customer, standing at least four or five inches higher than the venomous and quick Xen. But surprisingly, their skin complexions were similar, even the shades of their hair carry likeness to one another.

Age, race, and blood were the only things preventing Xen and the merchant from being biological twins, which surely would have surprised the man and dhani and left many questions lingering within the expanse of their minds. Luckily, Lhex did not possess such a sense of humor.

“ Aye, stranger. You look kinda familiar, ” The merchant smirks at Xen.
Xen smirks as well, for the levels of coincidence were far too high and comical for him to not do so. “ Well, handsome gentlemen like us do share common traits, ” Xen passes a hand through his hair and slicks back his hair to exaggerate his statement.

“ Yeah, yeah, cool guy. What are you looking for today? ” The merchant curiously asks. He was able to tell that Xen was a foreigner because his folk rarely wore black or ash black. “ I'm looking for a weapon, something that easy to handle, yet deadly. ” Xen looks over the various knives and daggers the merchant has and notices that there were no swords.

“ It is illegal to sell swords and anything larger than one here. The only weapons you'll get are daggers, knives, anything smaller, and shields, Stranger, ” The merchant states informatively to Xen.

“ That is very unfortunate. Then I will take a shield instead.” Xen points at his weapons of choice and then starts rummaging through his pocket.

“ A small shield, that's interesting there. What about these knuckledusters? I got these forged from cold iron, which is said to be able to cause harm to the undead. ” The Merchant says as he places the shield and knife Xen requested onto the wood in front of him.

“ They can harm the undead? I can afford that kind of weapon. I'll take both of those knuckledusters as well. ” Xen did not know about the undead too well, yet for some reason, the image of Evalin's wretched form appears inside his mind. It was at that moment Xen realized he had encountered an undead and one that was probably very powerful.

The Merchant smiles and places two knuckledusters next to Xen's other weapons. “ Heh, this guy doesn't know? What I said was only a rumor! He may look like me, but he isn't very smart. ” The Merchant thought deviously, his hazel eyes glowing with greed and delight.

“If these things don't work I will come back here and use them on you, ” Xen spoke with a smile, malicious intent lacing his words.

The Merchant laughs nervously “ I've only told you the truth, Stranger. Plus, who wouldn't want cold iron made from Kelwyn's knocker? ” The Merchant lies to get back at Xen for glaring at him.

“ Kelwyn's knocker, are you trying to make me angry? ” Xen folds his arms and glares at The Merchant.

“ Oh no, Kelwyn's knocker is an artifact that grants your wishes. ” The Merchant continues to lie as he goes on with his explanation. “ Though, nothing you receive will have magical properties sadly, ”

“ Tell me where it is...” Xen did not carefully listen to The Merchants words because the only thing he heard was—it grants your wishes.

“It is near here, just go a little bit to the north and ” The Merchant explains the directions to the Kelwyn's knocker to Xen, who pays him and takes what he's owed.

The directions The Merchant gave Xen were too vague, resulting in him becoming lost countless times and deeming the search a lost cause. But when Xen was about to give up on the artifact and his wish, he found it. The artifact—Kelwyn's Knocker—was just there, sitting in a way that made Xen feel like it had been waiting for him. Naturally, Xen was nervous. He was about to interact with an object that is rumored to grant wishes, unaware of whether or not it came with a price. But Xen extends his hand, grips onto the ring and knocks once on the object.
