Character Name

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 12
Birthday: 3rd Day of Summer, 506AV
Birthplace: Sunberth

Appearance: Tack is a slender boy, tall for his age, with a pale complexion and piercing green eyes. His nose is scattered with freckles, and he has a distinct scar down the side of his jaw from where he fell face first into a cauldron at age seven. There is nothing particularly special about him, save the haunting looks he produces when trying to get his own way.

Character Concept

Tack is a boy that, like many in Sunberth, thirsts for something greater. After the death of his father, a man he now struggles to remember, save the fact he was kind and caring, Tack has become somewhat determined to find himself. He wants to know if he has what it takes to become a knight, or a wizard, or even a cook. Whatever the case, he thirsts for knowledge, and will go to great lengths to acquire it.

He can be rude, he can be obnoxious, but he also is just a boy, a boy trying to find himself as much in personality as he is in profession. He has lived a life of struggle, and it has hardened him far beyond his age, even if he may not appear so. His experiences have matured him well beyond his years, yet there is the roguish charm in him that you'd find in so many boys his age, one of innocence and a passion for the unknown.

Character History

Eddard was born to a former Knight of Syliras and a common prostitute. He never knew his mother, nor did he ever care to. He was always cared for by his father, then a rogue knight of The Sun's Birth, who took the time to teach his son strength, courage, honour, integrity, and most importantly, loyalty. To tell the story of Eddard, one needs to know the story of his father before him

Despite his status as a rogue knight, John Rawlinson-Tackson was a man that upheld the very same values as a knight of Syliras, only poor circumstance had seen him banished from the order and sent to Sunberth to live out his later years.

He did not thrive there, a man of integrity in a place of such controlled chaos. He saw dead bodies as often as he saw living ones, and before long found refuge in the bottom of his cups and in the embrace of paid women. The riches he had earned in Syliras soon deteriorated, and before long he was up to his ankles in debt, with a son on the way to a woman he had only seen in the dark. She did not want the child, and John could not afford it.

With little option, John joined The Sun's Birth, hoping to make himself a reputation in the city, and with it enough coin to feed the child he'd inevitably have thrust upon him. He felt inspired by their motives. When he was born, John named Eddard after his grandfather, a man he had admired, and took him away from the woman as soon as he left her. They lived a few good years within stronghold of the Sun's Birth, and John taught his son as much as you could teach a pup. It was all well and good, until a group of unknown raiders descended upon the order and essentially ran them out of the city, scattering them to the wind.

The few members that stayed loyal to the cause remained with Jardeg Joander, determined to push on. During the attack, John lost his right hand, and scarcely avoided losing his young son. He knew it was too dangerous for them within the order, and denounced it. Feeling betrayed, and teeming with anger, Joander sent an assassin the very same night to find John, and put him to the sword. The assassin met heavy resistance from the trained knight, but his lack of sword hand meant he was destined to fail. John lost his head that night, and young Eddard his father.

Before he was slain, John urged Eddard to run, and run he did. He ran as far as his legs would go, until he wound up in the arms of an elderly lady named Trisha. She would look after the boy until the age of eleven, teaching him to cook, and read, and write, and laugh. More than anything, she taught him to survive in a place as chaotic as Sunberth. Eddard loved Trisha like the mother he never knew, though sorely missed the teachings of his father. When Trisha died of a fever, an eleven year old Eddard dug her a grave and buried her in it.

She had nicknamed him Tack, a name that stuck with him ever since. And so, a young Tack was once again thrown into the fray, this time with nowhere to run. This time he did not want to run. He wanted to find a mentor, someone who could teach him to fight like his father had, someone who could show him swordplay, and archery, and even magic. He wanted to know everything, he wanted to learn history, strategy, languages.

It was just a matter of who, in a city of crooks, cutthroats, and chaos, could teach him all the things he wanted to learn. He would find them, no matter what. He swore it on the lives of the two people he had loved.
