Jokk Dunaxii

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthday: 1st, Summer, 499 AV
Birthplace: Within the Dunaxii Household, the docks of Zeltiva

Appearance:

Jokk is a fair lad. Quite lanky and not properly built in any particular way, he stands at what could be considered as 'bookish' in nature. Tall, thin, and lean are the easiest ways to get him down at a glance, but if one were to take a closer look they might just catch his boyish features. Even though he was at the tail end of his youth, on that crest that would finally launch him into being a full adult in his own eyes, Jokk retains some of the features that keep him very much below his age bracket. This isn't to say he is a child, no not at all, but simply the typical features of a man are developing slower on him than normal. A rounded face that could be handsome one day is kept perpetually 'cute', with cheeks that are easily pinch-able and large, bright eyes that seemingly never close, always looking, regarding, wondering. His body language, when that of resting, is one of calm. Never really on edge, never ready to run, Jokk is too eager to really be scared or nervous and it shows on him in the way he stands, the way he walks. His skin is fair, with dots of red that splatter over him in a natural blush, most prominently on his cheeks. Hair done back in a pony tail, with his fringe reaching down to just above his teal eyes, Jokk very much holds an aura of 'innocence' in his appearance alone. As stated, one day he will be handsome, but today is not that day.

Character Concept

Eager. Driven. Blunt. These are words to describe the would be trader, if he were to actually listen to his parents and do what they said. Having a natural affinity for people and the business of them, Jokk has been surrounded by culture, money, contracts for a significant part of his life. From the day he could actually count he would be guided by his parents to continue running their shop on the docks of Zeltiva, giving supplies to passing sailors or Caravans being set up into the mainland. Subtlety was something that never came to him, and a considerable lack of a filter meant that often he'd simply blurt what he was thinking out. This isn't to say he was rude or uncaring, but it wasn't uncommon for him to simply have the meaning or purpose of a conversation just go over his head completely. Street smarts are not his strong suite, and if he were to get out into the big world he would certainly need a guiding hand, one that wasn't going to force him to stay put and run an old essentials shop...

Character History

Jokk is a happy lad, always has been, and with how little he knows of his future he has no reason to think it'll be any different. This isn't to say it wasn't hard, but his parents were devilishly good at hiding the fact that when money was tight they buckled their belts harder. From the moment he could read or write he was absorbed in books, in any kind of novel he could find. Even if they were in a different language it wasn't uncommon for Jokk to simply pretend to read them in the hopes or obtaining something special. When times were easy it was flaunted, his father trying from a very young age to get Jokk to engage in the business, and by the time he was of ten years old he was starting to help with trade. Nothing fancy and certainly nothing big, but if it did count to him understanding the very basics of economics from a young age. Still, it did nothing for him. Curious as ever he would go out when he can, sneak away from his parents shop to explore Zetliva, imagining himself to be one of the travellers of old, only to be caught and taken by the scuff of his ear to his bed, only for him to be further absorbed in the same cycles!

Life was good, life was lovely to Jokk and his childhood was free of tragedy. As stated his parents hid any debt they collected, hid any issues and Jokk grew up simply knowing the shop, what was around the docks, and Zeltiva itself. Every day in his teens he'd watch the boats come and go, the gallions of Sailors coming fresh from the wide untamed seas. It thrilled him to imagine himself as one, going against the wind, against the land itself. But still everytime he even mentioned the possiblity of travelling it was crushed, pushed away by his parents. 'There's danger out there.' and 'You'll be hurt.' alongisde 'Just stay in the shop, help us run it, it's good money.'

What good is there in being told something is dangerous, if not to experience it yourself. These were the words that broke it all, his aging grandmother who had always been a pivotal figure in Jokks life had said these after a long night of drinking Kelp Beer, where many words were said and food was spilled like blood on a battlefield. The Sixteen year old Jokk, in his slightly alchohol adled mind, didn't quite understand what she meant but it resonated with him, staying in that nogin of his and soon enough those ships he'd look at with wonder become a look of drive. He was going to see the world, settling down was something he couldn't imagine, not now, not as he was so young. Convincing his father to invest in sword fighting lessons, on the grounds that 'in case a deal goes bad it's good to be prepared' and grabbing as many books on the land that he could, Jokk devoted himself to becoming the traveller of his dreams. His first stop would be Sunberth, the closest settlement to Zeltiva, and though lawless, it would only be the stepping stone for Jokks future in the world of Mizahar.

That night, the night he told his parents as to why he was packing, was hard. Tears were shed, angered curses were yelled at him and many times he was nearly convinced this was the wrong thing to do. His brother, the man who had egged Jokk on his entire life, even at one point hoped to ring his younger brother in and the hopes of not letting him make a stupid decision. But none of it worked, and as they sat at the dinner table, the food having long gone cold, Jokk resided in the fact this may be the last season he'd spend at home. By the time the summer came, and Jokk was ready to go, there wasn't even a goodbye. A nod, a hug, and a gift from his family. There was the hope that Jokk would go home one day, wizen up on the docks but against their wishes he was gone. Jokk boarded the first ship to Sunberth at the crack of down, and with that his new life began.

Is life worth living, with so much to see after all?
