Skyler Thatch Appearance Race: Kelvic (Akinva Deerstalker) Gender: Female Age: One year old Birthday: Sixteenth of Spring, 517 AV Birthplace: Sunberth Appearance: As a human, Skyler looks like a young woman in her early twenties. She stands at five feet, three inches, making her a little short by human standards. Her big curious eyes are a light blue color and her dirty blonde hair usually up in a messy bun. Skylers build is that of petit but toned woman. As an Akinva Deerstalker, Skyler stands at roughly seventeen inches. Her build is slim, but not without the typical muscle bulk you find in Deerstalkers. Character Concept Despite being born in the lawless city of Sunberth, Skyler is known for her bubbly personality. She was raised to watch her back and be on guard at all times, but she can’t help be curious about the world around her. That’s not to say she can’t take care of herself, but she’d rather offer a helping hand than swindle some unlucky souls out of their hard earned Mizas, like her father. As an aspiring bard, Skyler can often be found playing her ocarina in her spare time, occasionally singing as well. She cannot dance however, being a very clumsy creature. She’s been seen on a number of occasions tripping over nothing. She’s a good sport though, dusting herself off and laughing with the crowd. She’s also been called a jester, wanting to make others laugh and just be cheerful. She almost feeds off the energy of others. If those around her are solemn, however, she usually grows quiet. She’s been taught not to push her luck with things, and to fade into the background if she senses trouble. Character History Skyler was born to a Ginevra (a falcon kelvic) and Dedric (a human) in a worn house in the sunset quarter. Sadly, Ginevra died of complications while giving birth, so Skylers father raised her alone. Though she didn’t know any different, the death had changed her Dedric. The two had been bonded, and the sudden loss almost destroyed him. The only thing that kept him holding on was his new little girl. Fear was quickly added to the mix when he realized she didn’t get just her mothers looks. He knew it was dangerous to be a Kelvic in Sunberth, and as a canine Kelvic, Skyler was a high demand product. The first few months were tough for Dedric. Once an honest man, he soon became a Con-Artist, theiving from others by selling them lies and trash and claiming them to be the finest items. He once sold vinigar and scented soap to a young traveler claiming it was a cure for blistered feet. As Skyler was never allowed to leave his side, she saw what her father was doing. But in the following months, as she got older, Dedric began to loosen his grip on Skyler. She was allowed to go to the market for food or other necessities. On one of these days, Skyler made a detour. She heard a strange noise. She followed it to a nearby pub. Why she found was a group of people gathered around one person. The sounds were coming from a strange object at the mans lips. It was the most beautiful sound Skyler had ever heard. The following days, Skyler made sure to take the long way and from the shops, stopping by to hear the sounds. Sometimes the sound even came directly from the persons mouth, which was intriguing. She didn’t know anyone could make such amazing sounds. Of course, Dedric realized his daughter was taking way too long for the distance she was supposed to travel. One day, he followed her and found what had distracted his daughter from her duties. Instead of being angry, he smiled. It was the first time in a long time that he had smiled. It reminded him of Ginevra. She had loved music, and everything about it. And then Dedric had another realization. He had been so focused on providing for her, that he had not been truly providing for her. That night, while putting Skyler to bed, he brought with him something wrapped in a white cloth. He placed it in Skylers lap. Skyler opened it and found an object similar to the one she had seen the very first night she heard the sound. Her eyes widened as she looked at it then her father then at it again. She quickly picked it up and put it to her lips, but the sound didn’t come out. She blew a little and a very strange and rather unappealing sound came out. She scrunched her face and looked at her father, claiming it was broken, that it was making the wrong sound. He laughed and took it gently from her. He told her it was called an ocarina, an instrument, and that the sound she had grown fond of was called music. He raised the Ocarina to his lips, closed his eyes, and began playing the beautiful sound. Skylers eyes lit up as she listened to her father play, excited to see it up close. Her fathers eyes began to water as he played, memories flooding his mind of Ginevra. The song ended and he put the instrument down, wiping his eyes. He never really talked about her mother, about who she was as a person. He began talking though, about her life, about her beauty. About her music. He smiled and placed the instrument into Skylers hands, telling her it was hers now. Skyler was exctatic, jumping up and hugging him. The coming months, Dedric taught Skyler what he could about music. Though he was no bard, his father was, and had taught him some. Life was good for the two. Well, except for Dedrics business of choice. In Sunberth, it doesn’t take long for someone to cross the wrong person. About a year after Skylers birth, Dedric sold a fake gemstone to a regular customer. Under suspicion of Dedric, the man took the gem to a trusted jewler, where he learned it was nothing but a glorified pebble. Enraged by the obvious swindle, and convinced this wasn’t the first time, the man hired lowlife thugs to help him end the con and take back what was owed. The man, who appeared to have a soft spot for children, waited till Skyler left for the shops. He then struck, breaking into the house and beating Dedric within an inch of his life. They took what valuables they could from the home and left. When Skyler got to the house, she sensed something was wrong when the door stood slightly open. She rushed in to find her father bloody and beaten on the floor. She barely made it to his body before he went limp, dead from the internal injuries. Skylers body went cold. She couldn’t feel, couldn’t think. She cried, letting out whimpers as a canine would. She laid there, next to her fathers body, for quite a while. The next morning came and she still hadnt moved. A young woman, who was concerned when she didn’t see the father and daughter for their daily ritual of a morning walk, eventually poked her head in and let out a cry of surprise. She rushed to Skyler and helped her up, trying to get her to explain. Eventually, the two left, calling the woman’s father and brother to help with the removal and burial of the body. Skyler soon sold the house and possessions and bought a cheap tent, not able to live in the same house Dedric died in.
