Magenta lay on her tree branch, slightly comfortable atop the large tree. She ate parts of her week supply of food in her backpack. She looked up to the sky, everything was calm. She saw a branch, with a perfect curve and a steady build. She rached up from her perch and grabbed hold of the branch. She yanked it from it's place and checked for any surface flaws. It was perfect.
She wove together some strands of long grass she came across and tied the ends. She got a homemade arrow from her backpack and tested the bow string. It was decent, slightly tight but fine.
That's when she heard yelling. She jumped slightly at the noise, she knew she was up far enough on the tree that she was out of sight. She saw a man, a human man running, frantically. She saw his pursuers, they were chasing him. He jumped into the water, perfect timing. She knew this may get her in trouble but she wanted to find a master, she wanted safety. She grabbed her wooden arrow made from a branch, bird feathers and a sharpened stone. She cocked the bow and took aime from one of the guards. Leg shot; the man fell down. The other guards looked to the sky wondering where the shot came from. She loaded the bow again and released, the arror flew swiftly through the air, pegging a guard in the chest. He fell in his own pool of blood. The guards were catching on, they looked tree to tree. She realized this was the time to escape. She crawled down the tree trunk, then swiftly turned into a deer.
It took all her strength not to run, not to hide for safety. But she knew, the guards weren't looking after a small doe, they were looking after that man. She prayed she bought enough time for the human to escape. She bonded to the stream, feeling a sudden thirst, she lowered her lips and took a long drink. She looked out the corner of her eye and saw the man.
