Abrahm Lartius

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Birthday: 37th, Autumn, 497 AV.
Birthplace: Zeltiva, Sylira
Occupation: Seeker (Novitiate)

Appearance

Standing at a height of about 5’9, with a weight of around 160 lbs, Abrahm considers his body type to be pretty average.

Abrahm is not a very muscular guy and yet he is not very skinny, either. Once, whilst out for a swim, a member of the Wave Guard had remarked on his body type, saying something about him having “potential”. Not being entirely interested in building muscle, Abrahm paid him no mind.

Abrahm’s dress sense is interesting, to say the least. He has a tendency to pick out items that many might say should never be in one outfit, and yet it somehow seems to work for him. Most often than not, Abrahm would be seen wearing a long cardigan, scarf or some type of shirt (or all in one outfit), as these are his favorite clothing articles to match outfits with. He does, however, have the one grey fur-lined coat for the seriously cold times.

Abrahm’s vision is slightly impaired; having trouble seeing distinct details at further distances. To compensate for this, Abrahm wears copper-framed spectacles. He does not usually wear them, unless it’s absolutely necessary. He does, however, carry them on his person at all times, tucked in a little wooden case.

Abrahm Lartius

Character Concept

Depending on who you are, you may perceive Abrahm differently. To most of his family, Abrahm is the son who tries his best to please his father who, to Abrahm, seems not to appreciate how much he actually tries. To many who meet him, Abrahm is well-mannered, disciplined and may sometimes be seen as a bit of a stoic. It is only once you get to know him that he will open up.

When wearing them, Abrahm has a habit of pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose when he is thinking, or for dramatic effect whilst in conversation. When nervous, this action might usually be accompanied by gulping, or clearing of the throat.

Considering the fact that his place of birth, Zeltiva, is known for its great library, it is no surprise that Abrahm is well-educated. Ever since the age of 10, he would visit the Wright Memorial Library and the University of Zeltiva as a whole and, as such, Abrahm had eventually developed quite a fondness for reading and knowledge in general.

A few fun facts about Abrahm:
  • He is left-handed
  • His favorite foods are apples and smoked salmon
  • His least favorite food would be anything pickled. He can not stomach anything pickled and the mere smell of vinegar makes him want to lose his lunch
  • Abrahm prefers warm, sunny days with minimum amounts of wind
  • He loves the sight of lightning, especially when it is accompanied by great booms of thunder

Character History

Abrahm Lartius was born on the 48th of Autumn, 497 AV into quite an average Zeltivan family.

Abrahm’s father, Alfonse, is a member of the Wave Guard. He is a man who is dedicated to the safety of the city’s citizens, as well as working hard to improve his skills as a guard and, hopefully, get a promotion to Lieutenant one day.

Melina Lartius, Abrahm’s mother, is a cook at the University of Zeltiva, working under Chef Master Devindaher. A kind and gentle woman, Melina is every bit the kind of mother that Abrahm could have wished for.

Both of Abrahm’s parents worked hard for the life that they had built together, to make sure that Abrahm could have every opportunity that they never could.

It wasn’t until he was 9 that Abrahm’s father decided to send him to the University of Zeltiva, where he would learn the basic skills of Writing and Mathematics. It was then that Abrahm’s father began to push him to be better; better at his education, better than the other kids, a better citizen, a better son…

“Playtime is over,” his father had said.

Ever since then, every mistake led to a lashing, after which a lesson soon followed. To Abrahm, his father had become tremendously insensitive, too strict and may even, at times, have expected too much.

“One day, you will thank me for this,” said his father on one occasion, after which a lashing Abrahm received a lashing for some odd wrong-doing. Abrahm does not remember what he had done, only that his arse hurt for two days thereafter.

When he was around the age of 10, Abrahm’s mother would take him to the Wright Memorial Library, where she encouraged him to start reading.

At first, education bored Abrahm, but the more he learned, the more he began to realise that he loved knowledge-- that there was a certain something about knowing a lot that made even adults respect a younger person. It was then that Abrahm took his education more seriously and began to visit the Library on his own. And by the time he was 12 years old, Abrahm had read ‘An Account of The Circumnavigation of Mizahar’ twice. This pleased his father, but did little to stop him from pushing Abrahm to learn more, to know more.

“We can do better” was his father’s motto.

Despite his father’s pushing and belt-parenting, Abrahm did all he could to please his father, until one day, when he decided to stop trying so hard.

This was the day that Abrahm met Hoakun, the local trouble-maker from East Street, much to the vexation of his Mr. Lartius. From playing with fire and nearly setting a boat alight, to throwing stones at passing birds, the two boys ran into a lot of trouble. Many times, Hoakun would be the reason why Abrahm received another lashing from his father. Despite this, Abrahm grew quite fond of the boy and Hoakun became his only true best friend.

When he was not helping his mother with the cooking and cleaning of their home, or visiting the Library, he would be spending time with Hoakun, finding something fun to do around the city, or sailing out on a raft that they had made with some driftwood and a discarded bedsheet. Often-times, whilst out on their escapades, the two boys would come across some Sveran individuals with whom they would trade a few odds and ends that Hoakun had somehow "acquired", usually receiving fruit in return. Soon enough, to Abrahm's delight, he had developed a basic understanding of the Fratava language spoken by the seafaring folk.

It was when he got older that Abrahm’s father began to interfere with nearly every aspect of his life. He would attempt to dictate which career path he should take, who was worth Abrahm’s time or not, etcetera.

Eventually, it became overwhelming and Abrahm considered leaving Zeltiva. He had asked Hoakun to come with him, but sadly, to no avail. His best friend had other ties in the city that would not allow him to leave.

In the end, Abrahm was left with two difficult decisions; Leave Zeltiva and everything and everyone he knows behind to get away from his dictator of a father, OR stay in Zeltiva and keep the company of his friend and the city he knew and loved, but have his life controlled by the man who seems determined to ruin it for his own satisfaction.

Abrahm wrestled with this tough decision for days until he heard wonderful tales of Lhavit, the city where buildings were made of glass infused with the powers of the divine and where magic is taught as freely as in Zeltiva. Many called it “The Diamond of Kalea”.

Figuring that this would be a brilliant opportunity to start a life free of the constant pressures of a selfish father, Abrahm said goodbye to his dear mother, greeted his only friend, Hoakun, and left his old man a note. Then, feeling like the famed Mizaharian, Abrahm boarded the first ship headed for Lhavit, much to the chagrin of his father.

House: Abrahm's house is a small, two bedroom cottage in the Okomo Estates. Being sparsely furnished, Abrahm's cottage is mainly there for sleeping purposes, as he is mostly found out and about in the city. He has not gotten around to fully furnishing the house, as is evident by the one completely empty back room. Having no real experience with gardening, Abrahm's back garden is in a deplorable state, to such an extent that even Abrahm himself wonders if it can even be called a garden.
