Character Concept
Alma is a devout follower of Rhysol and is a driven loyalist to the city state of Ravok. Her loyalty to her god is not blinding; observation and instinct have given her an understanding that the god that protects her city is not as benevolent as presented at face value. She accepts that and is even thrilled by it, because it gives her something very few people in the world have: opportunity. She is patient, extremely observant, and lives for the concept of long term planning. This mentality is a double edged sword as people who live strictly in the moment can surprise her, and she has trouble emotionally connecting to people suffering from things brought down on their own heads. This extends to the enemies of Rhysol and Ravok, where she maintains extreme indifference to their physical or emotional state. She tends to be well spoken to the point that some would consider her 'stuffy' or overly formal. She highly values self motivation and deplores unchecked excess and debauchery.
Character History
Alma was born a butcher’s daughter and her family lived in extremes due to it. When the hunters did well, her father’s skills were sought after, and due to their relative rarity in the city he was well paid for it; when the hunters and fishermen did poorly, it hurt the Blackwell family and things got tight. As she was learning her father’s skills, she often helped out by fetching the tools of the trade, water, and other necessities. One evening, as she was running late, young Alma decided to take a shortcut home rather than risk her father’s scolding. It could have been her last. She ran afoul of a pack of mercenaries, drunk and looking for some company before heading out on summer campaign. Young Alma seemed the perfect mark and would have been, if not for the passing of some Ebonstryfe . It had been a late night coming home from a masquerade when they heard the poor girl’s screams. They bested the mercenaries, saved the young, impressionable girl, and took her assailants in, never to be seen again. The only mementos left to her of that evening were her life and a discarded mask from the party that she kept as a prized possession. She was fascinated with the group and the mythos surrounding it from that point on. She watched and she learned. She started to understand just what role they played in Ravok's society, the respect they demanded and the fear they employed to keep order and peace. This presented an intoxicating mixture to the young girl and she resolved to be respected among their number. The normally quiet woman attempted to follow their example in her youth which resulted in a few fist fights little questions asked , and more then a few black eyes.
