Taika stands at five feet, eight inches. Her body is deemed to be built for agility, and is the type for athleticism. she weighs about a hundred and forty pounds. taika is a clear, olive skinned woman with dark chocolate eyes that appear to regularly lack enthusiasm. her lips find themselves in a purse even when she seems relaxed; it's hard to tell if she's thinking, or just generally unhappy. hair matching her eyes reaches just beneath her shoulders.
Character Concept
Taika isn't super friendly, though she has manners. Generally pretty straightforward and appreciative of some very specific nuances in life, it's hard to peg what really makes her excited for living. Perhaps it's her indifferent demeanor or monotone voice, or her regular shrugs that make it understand why she's not back home. But she wears her emotions of her face, so if she's excited, it'll be hard to miss.
She likes getting what she wants, as everyone does- but she's a bit more prone to pouting when things don't go her way.
In her history, back with the tribe, she was a bit more warm and welcoming, a smile on her face when her eyes locked with a friend's- though she was still a bit rough around the edges. If ever asked, she'd admit she's much more fun when she knows you better- she's just not completely comfortable around new faces.
(her parents would affectionately refer to her as the equivalent of 'brat'.)
Character History
Taika was born into the Beldra tribe, and had quite the regular childhood. From the moment she could, she was watching her father create things in iron by hand. She adored him, and thoroughly enjoyed this. She quickly moved on to trying it for herself, and though it was hard, she continued to work at it while she was in Eyktol. She never became competent and remains a novice, however she's got a start, and a foundation of knowledge.
Taika did not entirely neglect the animal handling side of life, however, and it was under her mother's wing she grew a bond to the large horned animals her tribe is known for. Smaller, fluffier, and cute creatures were not her favorites, but bonds with animals came quick and easy. Even if for some reason she acted like she didn't care for one of her four legged friends, she still had a soft spot for them, and it tended to be the same the other way around.
Taika grew up wildly independent. This is not without the knowledge of surviving desert life- she learned well how much it mattered to be able to depend on one another, as life truly did depend on it. But in the ways where she could, she loved doing things on her own.
Despite it being a cultural standard and expectation, Taika never wanted to marry. She was at least decently attractive, and smart enough, with some skill- so marrying wouldn't have been a difficult task, not that it was ever, really, for a Benshira woman. And when time and time again came that it was mentioned, she simply refused, and kept alongside her family at their labors of love.
It wasn't too soon, at the age of twenty eight, she started to feel a bit strange about having not married. The younger women around her were marrying, and starting families, and while it hadn't bothered her much at all when she was younger and feeling more.. rebellious and defiant (though not outright so), it was suddenly beginning to sink in that one of these things was not like the other.
She had lived comfortably and happy with the combination of things- being predictable, while also very unpredictable. There was routine, a system, and she liked that. But was she really contributing enough?
It was these thoughts that caused her mind to wander, and end up thinking of those who had left, for one reason or another. In these trails of thought, she decided that she could leave her tribe- but not for good. One day, she would return, with all kinds of knowledge and skills to share with her people. She could become a teacher of all things, and still without marrying and settling down, be of use.
Though her farewells from her family were sad, they were also exciting. She was sent off with an excitable young pup (really, mom?) and would be headed the easiest route to a completely new area.
Which was how she ended up in Syka- a vastly different land, or seemingly so. It has sand, which is nice. But culture shock definitely hit. The people were different- they seemed lazy, to her, though she didn't quite understand that the word for them was... relaxing.
When she'd left home, she had this idea that she would travel all over, meet all kinds of people, learn all kinds of things- but it never occurred to her what all of that would actually be like and, upon setting foot in Syka, found herself a bit too scared to keep going.
To mask her fear of the unknown, she has decided that she will stay in Syka until decided otherwise. After all, she could learn quite a bit while there, right?
