IKAZUKI / KAZU (Nickname)

Appearance

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthday: 13, Winter, 500.
Birthplace: Lhavit

Appearance:
Ikazuki / Kazu is 5' 7" (170cm) and 144 lbs (65 kg). He looked somewhat gaunt looking because of the prominent cheekbones that feature in his face, and the contrasting jet black iris with palish skin tones. His hair fell just above his shoulder blades and sport a lighter ash color. He would shy away from most of people company unless he willed it or the circumstances is unavoidable. He is soft spoken and polite enough around people, but would likely mutter about any annoyance he found in them just when they are out of earshot. Can always be found wearing darker or undyed clothing because he would not like any eyes gazing him for too long. Spending his whole life in Lhavit, he is accustomed to seeing Ethaefal but somehow always skittish around one.

Character Concept

At heart, Kazu is not a loner. The reason he always shy away from people is he feel abandoned many times, and he afraid to attach himself to people. This feeling of abandonment manifest in distrust of other and would cloud his judgment all of the time. Any real "relationship" with people is only limited to necessary mutualism to ensure his survival. He harbor alot of envy toward people who could easily socialize and be the center of attention and is secretly hoping to be just like them, but he was too afraid to do so.

Because of this tendency of avoiding people but also not wanting to be alone, Kazu create a imaginary friend he called Fang. When he wants to comments on something (mostly about people around him) he would mutters it and his mind Fang would react to it. If he have a thought or emotion that he do not want to admit, he would say Fang is the one who had it. This also manifest in speech pattern in which he would involuntarily uses "we" instead of " I " from tome to time. This "Fang" persona is an integral part of Kazu and only exist in his mind. Therefore he is neither a ghost, nor a living being. Kazu picture Fang as an opposite of himself, a loud, attention seeking, carefree young man who live to the fullest.

Character History

Kazu was born in an ordinary family in Lhavit. His father, Azuma was a wood worker and earned an acceptable money to support the family. Unfortunately after a series of complication, his sickly mother, Mina, died when he was 2 years old. Azuma could not handle the lost of his wife and resort to be a drunkard, neglecting the baby. Izumi, his father sister took her in and raise Kazu as her own. Kazu has a normal childhood growing up with Izumi. She even let him called he "Mom", and basically support him a child. He stayed with Izumi until he was 8 years old. But then the time came when Izumi was to be married. The husband to be, Elgaan was not happy with Kazu living with Izumi. And after a long conversation Izumi agree to explain to Kazu that she wasn't his mother.

The truth crushed Kazu, but he did not say anything. He could not say anything. Even as a kid, he knew that this marriage is something that Izumi wanted so bad, and he stood in the way. He went back to his father, only to find that he was married with someone else and greeted with cold shoulders.

Living with his father was an absolute hell. Azuma could never bear to look his face because he looked to much like his mother, and his stepmother Arianne showed a clear hatred toward him. Although they never hit or harm him, they acted like he was not there, like he was invisible. This is the seed of introvertness that would bloom when he older. In their house, he picked up some word of Shiber from Arianne (later he found out the words was mostly hurtful). Although Shiber was a beautiful language, this asociation with Arianne brought dislike to Kazu.

When he was 10 years old, he met Rigel, a 12 years old read headed boy who charmed him with his carefree attitude. Many days was spent with Rigel exploring Lhavits many tier and gazing upon the sunsets sky reflected by the skyglass dome together. He was his first and truest friend. At that time, Rigel is the only one who look him as a person, and he was glad. Unfortunately, Rigel died of illness a year later. He never told Kazu how he was suffering and gone without a note. Leaving Kazu feeling cheated.

After Rigel's death, with no one to talk to, Kazu began to create the basic of his imaginary friend (later called Fang). He often wanders to places he used to visit with Rigel and talked it outloud with his imaginary friend. Not a month after that, Azuma left him alone with Arianne because he need to go to Zeltiva for work. His stepmother didnot waste a time to then sent him to her weirdest relative, Harte.

Kazu did not have any expectation about Harte. Because someone who she would happily sent him to, would not be a good news for him. But turns out, Harte was a kind hearted middle aged woman. She was weird, or course. She was obsessed with aromatic candles, for one. She also never married and very much kept to herself all the time. But she never mistreat Kazu. Harte put him to work, cleaning her house, running errand, shopping, and even gathering flower from peaks to make candles. She was strict, but in the end of the day she always wait for him with warm eyes.
At later years, Harte let Kazu handle the candlemaking because she was weak enough to stood. And also revealed how she seemed to magically lit all the candle around the house every night without using flint. Years ago, she was a student of the Dawn Tower, and although she was never a bright one, she at least managed to summon fire with reimancy, albeit only a tiny wisp of fire, but it was more than enough to lit a candle. She not only taught him candlemaking but also Fratava so he could haggle with mercants easier when buying ingredients (although he hated haggling with them) and a little bit of her mothertongue, Shiber.

Harte passed away when Kazu turns 18 year old. As her will, Kazu inherited the house and a small fortune she left because apparently, her family did not want anything related to her. With Harte gone, and (expected to be) old enough to support himself, Kazu walked his journey all alone, in the Diamond of Kalea.
