The time was Mid-morning, although it wasn't particularly important what time of day it was, Her place of work was always busy, people milled about consistently through the day so she could come in anytime to pick up business and do work, her job as a Copyist had many perks which sometimes involved being called in to do emergency work, luckily business hasn't been booming lately.
Stepping through the door of the infirmary she smelled medicinal herbs as well as philters and tonics, it had been a few years since she started working at “The Catholicon” but every time she entered the building she was assailed by the strange differing smells of herbs and medical supplies, she gave a quick wave to Rasika behind the desk and settled unto the desk nearby, she came by often to help fill out label’s and prescription order’s, update doctor’s orders and letters to be sent to bedridden patients throughout the city.
Rasika gave her a polite mod and stepped away from the table Arcinia did her work in, sitting in a free chair, she could tell the older Ephyrian woman was happy to see her, it was nice to not have to fill in all the information and there was only so much six arms could do to speed the progress when writing was a task that required a fair degree of focus.
The pamphlet had the basis, “Write 100 labels without the herb’s name with a dosage for 10 grams” “Prepare 25 pamphlet’s prepared for signatures to perform an operation” and the likewise suspects of working in a pharmacy and hospital.
The words made sense, filling in the textual script was easy, she dunked her quill into ink and began the copying, the problem, was of course the exactness of it all the script was fine and small, a mistake or an ink blotch could render the description unusable, she hummed gently as she worked feeling the time move by slowly as the scratch of her quil met paper, the smell of ink met her nose and words were permanently etched into the script, Patient name, Check. Dosage, 10 Grams, Check. Time ticked by as the small lamp beside her burned down oil, she heard the patients filling in and out throughout the day.
Rasika stooped behind her suddenly, critical as ever of the young Shinya initiates work she lifted her eyes in mock horror and pointed at the script of one of the labels on the page. “You have left a splotch of ink there, Be less sloppy young one” Cursing under her breath Arcinia glazed up at the Ephyerian woman with a small wry smile and chuckled” Well, At least my writing is legible now right ?” A Smile appeared on the older woman’s face and she gave a polite dismissive nod. “It’s a miracle your uncle kept you employed when you could barely write common at least your finally experienced enough not to waste 2 Kina worth of supplies every day”
