Laria's Furs Residents and visitors to the snowy city of Avanthal cannot deny there is a flip-side to its beauty. The cold here is biting and, when coupled with harsh winds, can be deadly. That is why, situated in the center of the marketplace, Laria’s Furs was founded. The store is a large, single-storied, wooden building sectioned into three rooms. The main room is the shop floor, while the two back rooms serve as an office and a spacious crafting room. The shop floor has two main sections. The largest is filled with clothing hand-made by Laria and her staff. The bulk of these items consist of fur and leather garments specifically designed to combat the freezing temperatures of the climate. Alongside these, one will find pieces more suited to warmer places: shirts, cotton dresses, and the like. In the corner of this area are a dressing room and a measuring pedestal. The other half of the shop floor houses materials for purchase. These include everything from rolls of linen and leather hides to thread and needles. Sitting in the middle of the store, keeping customers out of the back rooms, is a long counter. This serves as both a surface for measuring fabric for a customer and the primary station for the on-duty shop assistant. The store is run by its namesake, one Laria Skyglow. She is very well known for her finely crafted garments and decided to take it upon herself to supply the city with the clothing it needs. Her son, Arvas Skyglow, is her main assistant, working mainly in the crafting area. She has been sewing and designing for over forty years, thus gaining recognition as the producer of the finest garments in the whole of Avanthal. She sees it as her duty to ensure that the city’s people are clothed appropriately to survive the harsh weather they are faced with, and corners are never cut when meeting a customer’s needs. She is an upbeat woman, forever smiling, and she seems to possess a charm that could win over a hungry dire wolf in an instant. He works in his mother’s store as an apprentice leatherworker, though his skills are more than sufficient for him to create exquisite garments of his own. He also manages the trading of leathers and fur as the shop often sources its stock from Avanthal’s hunters. Arvas usually has a much more sober expression than his mother. That is not to say he is unfriendly, since he is far from it; he just takes his craft very seriously. When trading or selling furs, it is usually not advised to try and haggle with him, since he has an uncanny knack for convincing you to pay more if you try it.
