Be my Konti Sister... or Akalak brother.

Postby Selvaria on March 3rd, 2011, 7:32 am

Hello! I am a new Konti and I am looking for family (It's more fun to play with family, after all). Half brothers or half sisters are welcome, but I would like to interest you with playing a Konti or Akalak.

This has been shown to both Gossamer and Alice, (Alice has yet to put her word on it) but this is what the family will generally be about:

In the Mura community the Varanti family are traditionally composed of experienced surveyors, pearl divers, and fish breeders. They are well-known for leaning towards the applied sciences, if not found engaged in hard work and labor. They live an active lifestyle. Most of them take up enterprising roles in the community.

The Varanti family worships Laviku and pays tribute to Avalis as their mother. It is very rare for Varanti sisters to possess a mark from Rak'keli, attributed to the fact that most of them are quite often engaged in hunting. Most of the Varanti sisters are closer to Laviku than Avalis, and as a result they are known to spend more time underwater than on land. This affinity for the sea best explains the family's preference towards becoming fish breeders and pearl divers.

They are also known for having close ties with the Akvatari of Abura. Few sisters are even familiar with the Charoda and a number are capable of speaking Char.

The Varanti culture embraces the pacifist nature of Konti. They are trained early on proper manners and the art of conversation. The Varanti Sisters are never the argumentative type, they seem to be born with a natural instinct for courtesy.

Varanti girls are taught to use their suvai as early as the time they are able to stand upright. These Konti are known for a fighting style called Mir'Ar Velos, unique to their family, and best used underwater. Very few Varanti sisters ever use magic, except the Seers and the limited Suviaks.

Traditionally, the Varanti, in the case that they decide to marry, usually take Akalak husbands. This is not a written rule, but rather a preference. The mother decides whether to give birth to her child in Riverfall or Mura, but it is encouraged that the child be introduced to both cultures and let them choose where to stay. The Varanti are family-oriented, and it not uncommon for them to have extended families (cousins and half-brothers or half-sisters) living in the same house.

Family Info:

Lararia Varanti
Konti, 120 years old
Grew up in Riverfall. Long straight hair (usually braided), pretty violet eyes.
Likes to swim, likes to breed fish
Soft spoken but persuasive, Demure

Garamon/Fere
Akalak, 159 years old
Grew up in Riverfall as Lararia's neighbor, tall dark blue and handsome. Long hair, twin braids.

Garamon
Intelligent, Adamant, Arrogant
Has mistresses, traditional Akalak, loves hunting, hates the sea

Fere
Brusque, Big guy with a big heart
Acts before he speaks, violent and aggressive, likes Lararia, soft when it comes to wife and daughters, strict to males in the family

And she said, "I will only surrender my heart to the man who can make me surrender my suvai."

I've decided that I would like Shri to be part of the Varanti family! She's kinda lazy though, and she wouldn't do that fighting :) I'll change her history too.

Yey!!! Hey Shri this makes me very happy. Just to let you know, another Konti named Lakara is also in the family... we are still figuring out our history and we are going to do a flashback thread in Riverfall! Would you like to join? I'll adjust what I've written so far :D
And she said, "I will only surrender my heart to the man who can make me surrender my suvai."

=waves= Figured I should say something in the actual thread (:
One thing I meant to ask you was, what would happen to a Varanti Konti who was given Rak'keli's Gnosis? I only ask as Kara has it and you said that it rare for it to happen.

I decided to create an Akalak recently, and was wondering what would be the age range for that brother? If you will have me, that is. :D

Hey Kara, dear sister, I'll be posting Alice's comments on our family write-up:

For good measure, I'll be adding Baku's former PM to me, as it was central to the creation of this family:

Why do they have ties with the Akvatari and Charoda? Especially the Charoda who live about on the opposite end of the continent. Probably because they're pearl fishers and dive down the coast to gather pearls of higher quality? I'd like to see an explanation since I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion.

Why are they taught in suvai use although they're pacifistic and not argumentative? I take it that means they try to avoid direct conflict, so why would they learn how to fight? You could, for example, state that they see the suvai as an artform (dancing comes to my mind, or a form of ritual prayer to Laviku) and not as combat, although they will defend themselves in extreme situations. I think the latter needs no justification because who wouldn't try to avoid getting killed/raped/etc.?

I'll be developing the "fighting method" into a dance, and removing the Charoda, but will keep Akvatari family friends (love of art, love of sea, etc.) Any thoughts?

Also, on mother and father, through Baku's PM excerpts:

A beach to the ocean rests right on Riverfall's shores, so you can post such in Riverfall itself. Fact is, it's very likely that an Akalak would insist quite strongly that such a birth take place within the city area and they would be hesitant to have it done down even in the ocean due to risk to both mother and child that's typically expected in a child conceived between an Akalak and female.

In one of my flashback threads, I said that mom wanted to give birth at sea, and will roleplay mom and dad arguing about it! So Lakara, it's very possible that you were born out in the sea as well. :)

Because I just had to ask, with us young Konti growing up in Riverfall, what are the chances that some blue hunk takes advantage, Baku said:

Akalaks are not really pedos, no. They may look on with interest, and keep an eye on women, waiting for them to reach reproductive maturity, but they live over 400 years (provided violence or plague of some sort don't kill them first of course), so they have that issue of waiting for a woman to mature before offering on their side. For a lot of it, it isn't about the sex, it's about producing more heirs, and continuing their species. The feel good of sex is just a bonus. That's not to say completely that there won't be some Cerulean's in the making that wouldn't attempt such if you're looking for something in the extreme dramatic department, but such individuals, even though Akalak, would immediately be captured and put to death for such an act, as such would run the extreme risk of causing the immature female's chances of bearing children later in life being destroyed.

Other things to note of the Akalak is that, while being fierce warriors, they often have extreme honor to them. They will pamper women and treat them like queens in the hopes of that they will persuade them to bear children for them, but many don't get too attached emotionally due to the fact that they outlive most races age wise. However, those who do are taken care of almost over zealously. Their every need is taken care of, every expense covered, and they are fiercely, fiercely protected by not only the Akalak they're bearing a child for, but most of the city guards as well who can get their before whoever is a threat is killed.

Two sides/Two Souls: As you likely know, every Akalak has both a Light Soul and an Dark Soul. In my opinion, this doesn't necessarily mean Good and Evil. It could just as easily mean Nice Guy and Big Jerk. In the end, if you NPC any Akalaks in your story and play such out, it's your decision how you want to play it, as long as it isn't an establish RF NPC meant for Mod play of course.

Father, so far, is described thinly above. I imagine Fere as a fierce Hagrid (hope you know him) and Garamon as an elderly elfish person. They're exact opposites of one another, dumb and wise, soft-hearted and stoic, aggressive and calm...

There's still work to do (which explains why my CS is still half-empty), it is best to know what the family is like when we've played it out. I love the twist where Shri is "adopted" - I'm waiting for her to expand on that.

Hey Mizuriel (sorry had to answer sister's questions first) I am aged 25, Lakara is 23, Shri is 24 (older by a season to Kara) and is adopted... you can either be an older brother or younger... I have mentioned that having many females in the family frustrated Father, so with an Akalak in the family, they may be extra hard on the male heir :)

Want? Y?N?
And she said, "I will only surrender my heart to the man who can make me surrender my suvai."

I have yet to read up on suvai properly, as I only just discovered the wiki in progress over in the development section. Though I love the sound of using it primarily as an art form. Though it can also be turned for defense if needed right?
Again, I haven't read a whole lot on the Charoda, but I have looked at the Akvatari, and I like the idea of being familiar with them. Perhaps their music could have an influence on the dance-like suvai style of the family?

Love the sound of the father though. Sort of like one side is like a bodyguard-type character and the other a philosopher of sorts.

Kara's history is still empty at the moment, so anything goes I suppose. Kara could well have been born at sea, but her Konti gift gives her an affinity with land animals, so maybe their father won that particular argument. Though even if she were born at sea I can find a way to make the land prominent to her.
And I can't wait to she how Shri plays out this adoption, it'll make a great twist in the history.
Also, a brother Akalak would be awesome Mizu (:

Gural is my first attempt at an Akalak, i would appreciate it if you guys could tell me what you think. And please do nudge me if i have made a mistake somewhere. History is going to stay empty for a while more, that is until i coordinate myself a bit with the rest of you, as i have no idea what you had in mind and it would be rude of me to mess it up. :)

Heya Peeps! I may need to edit some CS stuff, but I think I'm interested in being an Akalak bro to the family. I'm not exactly sure where he is at the moment, but he was intended to visit Mura, so yeah... ;)
