As one approaches Grath's Rest, on the back of the Petal of the Endless Epoch, either by a bridge of Slugsuckle vines and discarded wood, or by the platform that makes up each Petal in The Spires, a strange sight would be seen. It would appear as if a large chunk of a much larger tree was carved out all the way around the circumference, leaving just a central column. As you move closer, you start seeing tables, chairs, and a bar that appear to be carved out of and remain a part of the tree. And your assumption would be quite correct. You would see paper-like lanterns filled with large fireflies casting a warm glow on the bar and dining area. The tree isn't just the furniture however, it acts as floor, ceiling, and inside wall as well. If you walk through the circular bar, you will notice a set of spiral stairs, set into the bar, leading up further into the tree. If one were to drunkenly fall off, they would be caught in the nets of Slugsuckle under all Petals designed to catch anyone who would fall.

While the large furniture may appear daunting to non Jamoura, chairs and stools are available for smaller patrons as well. While here, you can order food from Kashal, Grath's mate. She can often be found wandering through the dining area delivering food, telling stories of old, or occasionally gracing everyone with a deep, booming song. Food comes either vegetarian or standard house special. All food is changed day to day depending on what fruits, vegetables, nuts, meat, and insects are available. The kitchens where she and her assistants cook are located back out on the Petal that led to the bar, directly across from Grath's Brewery.

While you can order a standard beer here, Grath's Rest boasts a few unique drinks. The first is Nectar's Delight. This is a beverage of a beautifully deep golden hue, brewed from honey by Grath himself. While not too potent, it is quite tasty. However after centuries of brewing Grath also made a much more potent version of this drink that he uses as a mixer in custom drinks, as well as in his famous Grath's Special. This is not a beer, but rather a mixed drink of a secret blend of his honeyed alcohol and fruit juices. While he does his mixing at the bar, his brewery is located outside on the Petal in a wooden shelter much like the kitchens.

If one is too drunk to leave, or merely needs a room for the night, you simply pay Grath, and ascend the carved wooden stairs upwards. Common rooms don't consist of much more than a hammock, made of thinner Slugsuckle vines, a Jamoura sized wash barrel, and a couple of firefly lanterns. Luxury rooms consist of a mattress full of threads pulled from Slugsuckle, a carved in wooden tub, set in the floor, a body mirror, and fine crafts of woodcarving, flintknapping, and plant shaping. All baths can be filled with hot water upon order and is delivered from the kitchens by a Jamoura.

Grath is one of the older Jamoura still around. He discovered the termite infested tree with his mate, Kashal, a few about a century after the Valterrian devastated the land. Over a couple years the couple had managed relocate all of the termites and their eggs to areas away from the newly made city of The Spires. And that's when they decided to make an establishment for the joy and relaxation of all Jamoura . So they set to work, smoothing the eaten away areas, and doing as minimal amount of wood removal as possible. They knew the tree would live on fine, but wanted to turn this horrible scar into something filled with joy. And soon, Grath's Rest was born.

Upon completion, Grath began dabbling in brewing. After years of trial and error, he finally made a brew from honey made by the honey farm a friend of his ran. He spent decades perfecting this concoction on his many patrons. While he continued to improve his famous Nectar's Delight, he began working on cocktail mixing, making more than just beer. He added various fruit juices, and with the patience known among the Jamoura perfected Grath's Delight many decades later.

Now he spends most of his time thinking of new things to brew and playing with new cocktails. He loves when the occasional traveler brings a new type of alcohol around. He will often try to purchase it and learn how to make it, and improve upon it. He also serves as a fantastic entertainer in his tavern, providing many stories from his centuries. He also acts as the only bouncer. Jamoura rarely if ever cause trouble, more often it's travelers. He won't severely injure them, however he is quite adept at forcing a patron to submit. If they won't leave willingly he throws them out of the bar and into the Slugsuckle nets below to be taken care of at a later time.

Kashal is Grath's mate and head of the kitchen. She's been by his side since before the Valterrian and the aid of Caiyha. She helped Grath clear the tree of termites, after she came up with the idea of relocating them. After they got the tavern carved out she began cooking.

She originally started with dishes consisting primarily of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and insects since that is the predominate diet of Jamoura. When travelers began making their way into Spires the demand for other foods began. So Kashal added bread products and meats and fish to the menu. While many Jamoura don't typically partake in meat, they aren't wholly against it either. She now offers a vegetarian menu and a standard menu, and like her mate, she loves to experiment with new and foreign foods.

When Kashal isn't cooking, she can often be found instructing her students in cooking, or found entertaining guests with a story or song. She is renowned for her ability to produce a deep melodic song on the spot based on what's going on that day or who she's entertaining. She's the apple of many Jamoura's eye, but none make an advance while Grath is around, which is nearly always. She is the kinder and more social of the two, and is usually the first to greet all newcomers.

[Spires Location] Grath's Rest

Timestamp: 75th of Winter, 511 AV

Even without asking around, Malia stumbled upon Grath’s Rest pretty soon. A tree located at the Outer Petals, it was probably the most amazing work of architecture she had ever seen. Of course, there were grander and sturdier structures, like Syliras or the citadel of Sahova, but they didn’t blend in with the environment as much as Spires did. The inn obviously was the center of activity for all sorts of races visiting the city.

Upon entering, Malia was greeted by a Jamoura who introduced himself as the owner. “Greetings to you as well. I’d like to rent a room for a few days. At least.” After exchanging some more words, they agreed that she paid for five days in advance. Then he showed her to her room, a cheap one with basic furniture – human-sized, fortunately –, and left her alone.

Malia got rid of her backpack, looked out of the window and thought about her next steps. The inn was the best place to stay for the time being. However, she didn’t consider staying for too long. Spires was an intriguing place. Surely its depths held something she could make use of. Having visited and lived at so many different places, the Nuit had developed a sense for what city held secrets she could loot and what city hadn’t. Syliras, for example, was straight and honest. The Knights managed to keep crime out of their precious stone walls. It was safe, but it wasn’t interesting.

Spires, on the other hand, was a naturally grown and developed city, much like the rainforest encircling and invading it. With Grath’s Rest as headquarters, she’d set out and explore every corner of the city to find another piece of the puzzle.

[Location] Grath's Rest

Postby Skret on January 3rd, 2013, 10:45 pm

late afternoon, Winter 17th 512AV
Skret quickly found Garth's rest, she had seen it before while wandering the spires but hadn't really investigated further. She didn't like crowded area's very much it put her on edge but she fought her urge to flee because she knew she would have have to meet Banir in only a about and hour. She walked along the petal platform towards the entrance slowly and constantly on edge.

She had heard that they have places to stay in this bar, she had hoped they also had some form of showers because she was still pretty horrible smelling from the spar with Banir. she approached the counter and addressed the Jemoura who was behind it. She timidly asked if she could rent a room for 6 nights and the Jemoura obliged. she handed over the money and the Jemora directed her to her room.
