Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The previous day had been hectic for the newcomer, and between losing herself in the city's tiers, being cornered by a man adamantly asserting something about children, and nearly swooning from lack of water, Candira had trudged back to the ocean, constructed a poor dwelling for the night, and slept fitfully on a uncomfortable bed of rocks. Her dreams were no respite. They had been plagued by doubt and confusion, fear and curiosity; the Charoda craved knowledge imbued with adventure, and had left her home in a monumental, life-altering decision only two weeks previous. Her only comfort was the ocean, but even that lacked the gaiety and familiarity of her people's pacifistic touch.

There were no sea dwellers to be found above the surface, and even her large cloak drawn to cover her fish-like features made the woman feel like an outcast before she was given a chance. The air breathers, some walking casually with weapons strapped on and others talking tactics, reminded her of her brother's murder at the hand of a half-crazed Myrian. The men, many toned similarly to her people, could almost pass for a society of Charodae - if she closed her eyes.

Despite all this, the Charoda pulled herself from her make-shift home early that morning and forced a smile onto her face. She convinced herself that today, with the bright sun and clean air, the comforting sound of the falls and the occational harsh call of a bird, that today would be a good day.

She found herself wandering Zhongjie Warren, a half-eaten fruit forgotten in her webbed fingers. The tents had emerged suddenly from well-manicured trees, and she had stepped into the market place with dawning realization. Small shops were constructed in neat lines, surrounding a smooth stone path. Trinkets from all over the globe were displayed everywhere: glass from Wind Reach, clothing from Alvadas, wadj from Ahnatep, and even a pearl or two from Charbosi. The woman hovered over each stand at first with caution, only glancing at the objects; as the day wore on, and the Akalak merchants enticed her closer, Candira gained confidence. Soon, she was handling items with undisguised want.

"Good choice, there," the merchant commented. She barely looked up, and instead pulled the hood of her cloak further forward. Beside hiding her race, the damp cloth kept her cool and hydrated. At least, she hoped, she did not drip!

"Yes, it is," she mumbled, handing the gold necklace back and eying a small dagger carefully placed on a red cloth. The woman had not seen it when she came to the stand, and now its presence made her squirm. He would not grab it, and turn on her, if she did not purchase the jewelry, right?

"But not for me, I'm afraid." Candira made a hasty retreat, heart pumping.
