A surreal cavern city inhabited by Symenestra where stones glow and streets are reams of silk. Cocoon like structures hang between stalactites and cascade over limestone flows in organic and eerie arabesques. Without a Symenestra willing to escort you, entrance is impossible.

Early Summer, 511 AV

ImageLong black nails echoed across a dark tabletop as the fifty-something year old Symenestra sat in uncomfortable silence between the shoulders of two far younger, but no less armored, Ochya men. Vass was never without one or two of his men; often there were more that would gather around him and the table he had claimed so many years ago in the far corner of the Hunters’ Gather as his own. A spear lay innocently against the wall behind him, never far from reach. It was propped up against delicately carved stone that barely looked like stone at all – in fact, the entire establishment in itself was a marvel of engineering – but Vass hardly cared to fuss over the tired four-hundred something year old tavern he had seen nearly every day since he could remember.

The man straightened, bringing his tapping – that was annoying even him – to a slow as a figure approached his table with a direct gait only someone intent on speaking with him would assume. Vass almost smiled. Instead, the lines in his face translated into something of a mixture between interest and amusement. Many approached him with delusions of grandeur; though little seemed to be interested in the work itself, only the respect a man of the Ochya commanded in the tight-knit cavern community.

A stain of crimson met gold, before wide pupils dropped to drink in the rumpled clothing that hung from the youth’s fragile frame. Dark brows lifted high, threatening to close the space between them and a receding hairline. The judgment was almost palpable in the dank, unmoving air that passed between them. Then, Vass’ expression softened and he leaned back in his chair with a grunt as both palms pressed hard to the dark wood tabletop before him.

“Do you always dress in shambles when you are trying to impress a potential employer?”

His men exchanged amused glances before two more sets of gemstone eyes focused on the sight of the new Symenestra.

One hand lifted, motioning towards a chair as dark as the table it was propped against.

“Sit.” Vass’ voice commanded a tone as rigid as the lines permanently drawn across his forehead, “Tell me your name, and why I am sitting here with a stomach empty of mead.”

[The Hunters' Gather] A New Set of Eyes (Valydor)

Postby Valydor on July 22nd, 2011, 8:17 pm

Valydor had made up his mind about what he doing as he walked towards the table in one of the far corners. Knowing that vall, a prominent member of the ochya, had been using this table when he came to the hunters lodge for years and would probably continue to do so till he was to old to use the ropes to get here.

As Vass noticed him approaching and fixed his gaze on him.He tried to ignore the fact that he could almost feel the older sym judging him. Valydor didn't back down and just looked striaght back at the older sym, not willing to back down and seem weak. The ochya didn't need weak willed men in their ranks and by viratas he was not one with a weak will!

After a few moments Vass finally spoke up, criticizing his crumpled clothes and the general shoddiness of his appearance.
“Why would waste time on trying to look when that time could be spent in better way's?” Valydor shot back as he sat down in the chair vass had offered him. Ignoring the amused looks on the pair of symenestra standing behind vass.

“My name is Valydor and I am from the clandestina web and the reason you are still sitting here with a stomach empty of mead is most likely the fact that you didn't buy one yet.” Valydor replied in a casual tone. Before fixing the man in front of him with a serious stare.
“But could we go to the task at hand and actually begin to talk about how I can join the ochya?”

“Mmn,” a grunted response to the youth’s question of appearance drew Vass’ deep-set crimson eyes even narrower. Subtleties seemed to be lost on the boy, he decided, as he who called himself Valydor of the Clandestina Web offered his musing little more than a casual, direct response. He was bold, this one – but not the brightest, it seemed. Vass hinted at a thin smile before a response came on that crooning, Widower tongue.

“The Ochya,” Vass repeated, as if the word was something foreign to him. If rhetorical questions were above the boy’s head, perhaps sarcasm would be too. Oh, what an amusing game that would be. Ultimately, Vass decided against mind games with the poor kid. “Of course you do.”

Many approached Vass about the likes of the Oycha. There was little that trickled in and out of the Hunters’ Gather that was not aware of his prominence in the small enforcement sect. Unfortunately, most of them were headstrong children that were more interested in the glory of the Ochya’s reputation and an excuse to beat around dirty-blooded Dra-Whoever’s rather than do the actual work the Ochya required – that was sometimes menial, at best.

Vass’ guards had settled back in their chairs again; content to listen to the conversation in silence, if not equally annoyed at the lack of alcohol buzzing in their blood. Vass himself kept his alert countenance focused on the boy opposite him as his fingers began to drum the tabletop again, slowly at first.

“Why do you want to join the Ochya, Valydor of the Clandestina Web?”

[The Hunters' Gather] A New Set of Eyes (Valydor)

Postby Valydor on July 26th, 2011, 1:39 pm

Valydor waited as patiently as he could, waiting for the older symenestra in front of him to say something that actually had some kind of meaning. Trying to ignore that annoying sound of the man tapping his black claws on the table. He doubted that he threatening to break his fingers would do much good for his chances to get into the ochya anyway.
When the man finally spoke up and asked why he wanted to join the ochya. Valydor responded quickly and without any hesitation.
“The reason I want to join the ochya is that I want to keep the symenestra bloodline safe and secure. Sure there isn't much crime or violence in the city, but one never knows what might crawl up from the deep depts beneath our city. Or if the filth living in the abandoned parts of our beautiful city gathers enough courage to get near our citizens.”

“Keeping the Symenestra bloodline secure?” Vass repeated, a tone of contempt rising further than he had intended it to. That’s just what he needed – another headstrong child out to kill off potential surrogates. Dirtied blood or not, a womb was a womb, and even the bastard halfblood children deserved the honor of carrying pure blood. He relaxed into his chair again. As it leaned backward, it creaked in its age. In his many years as a member of the Ochya not once had he seen the likes of creature or monster alike ascend from the darkness so far beyond the keenest eye on the cavern floor – of course, he had heard stories. But stories were just that: stories.

This young man also had an odd paranoia about the abandoned parts of Kalinor. Had he seen something? The question burned on Vass’ tongue, but never voiced itself.

“And how exactly,” Vass drank in his own words, thick and heavy as the mead his parched lips craved, “do you plan on keeping our bloodlines ‘secure’, my friend?” The chair groaned again as Vass bore down on the other man, garnet irises gleaming in their curiosity from behind a constant veil of annoyance. Despite the sour look that refused to leave his face, the question itself was sincere.
