[Flashback] Omnis Intereo [Cayenne]

30th day of Fall, 506 AV

A Svefra Casinor approached the quays of Black Rock. It slid beside one of the mooring posts and its owner nimbly jumped onto the quay and skillfully moored the boat. He looked towards the canals and buildings of Black Rock and shook his head.

A young man, hardly more than a boy, appeared from the Casinor's small cabin. Taking the hand proferred b the Svefra, the boy jumped across the small gap between the Casinor and the quay.

"Are you sure you want to be here lad? I'm willing to take you anywhere along the Suvan at no extra cost. Alvadas perhaps?" The Svefra's expression looked as if he was pleading for the boy to consider his offer.

The boy's only response was a brief shake of his head.

The Svefra sighed in resignation. "Well, the gods know that I tried. You have chosen your path of your own free will."

The boy looked at the Svefra and nodded. He raised his hands in a gesture of farewell and then turned and walked towards the gondolas moored beyond the quays. He never looked back.

Stopping beside one of the moored gondolas the boy addressed the black-garbed gondolier. "I wish to be taken to The Spire."

If the gondolier was surprised he hid it well. Nodding in assent the gondolier silently motioned for the boy to board. The gondola maneuvered towards the canals as soon as the boy was comfortably seated.

Aside from the sound of the water swishing back and forth as the gondola passed, the trip was made in total silence. Neither the gondolier nor the boy uttered a word.

Once they have reached the heart of Black Rock the gondola slid between two posts and the gondolier expertly maneuvered the craft to stop just short of the stone steps leading up to the base of The Spire.

The boy clambered out of the gondola and on to the steps. The gondola silently moved away as soon as he was safely ashore. He never noticed it leaving, instead he was absorbing the sight of of the clock halfway up The Spire.

The boy's lips compressed to a thin line of determination and he strode forward on his gangly legs towards and past the great stone doors and into Dira's Spire.

Upon entering he noticed that a sphere floating high above glowed with a black light. He looked down and across the large, stark room at the obsidian doors flanked by two black-garbed, jackal-masked beings.

He strode forward until he was abreast of the two Omens. He stopped right in front of the obsidian door and waited to see if the Omens will bar his way. The two on either side of him were as still as statues and as silent as the grave. Behind him the boy heard the susur of voices both living and the dead, probably speculating on the boy's actions.

Biting his lower lip, the boy raised his hand and laid it on the obsidian door. The door was as cold as the dead and he had prior experience with that feeling. Shaking his head resolutely, the boy pushed. The obsidian door opened without even the hint of a sound. Past the door was the beginning of a grand staircase. The boy walked past doorway and stopped in front of the first step. Behind him the obsidian door closed as silently as it opened, cutting of the sounds of the room beyond.

The boy placed his feet firmly on the first step and the stairs began to move, taking him upwards.
