Summer 80th, 511 AV It was the day to get new Bendi, and the Yasi were both excited and unnerved. Some thought they'd get to work with the artisans, others were afraid to clean the roads free of snow. One Yasi, Nikavi, did not panic or start an excited discussion. She just stood there, long, deep red hair half concealing eyes that were a pure, liquid gold bordering on amber near the pupils. She stood calm and collected, one of the oldest Yasi in the group. This Yasi didn't mind where she went. She could go to shovel the roads free of snow, and still find nothing to complain about. Hard work was necessary in her life, so she felt no need to get overly anxious over it. She knew that wherever she went she could have fun and laugh. There was nothing to bring her down into misery. She was like the little piping sparrows some Yasi received when they were younger. Always laughing in her voice, but dropping into silence when it was required, even though the light-hearted, naïve nature always stirred underneath. She took her place in line to be assigned her duty, hiding laughter at the conspiring of the Yasi before her. They were so uncertain, thinking that they were going to wind up cleaning after birds, or shoveling the roads, or forging. Not one of those Bendi was hard. In the physical sense, yes, but a Yasi could have fun doing chores like that! Making little snow Inarta on the side of the road, squawking at the little birds, or cracking jokes with the smith were all fun things to do during a Bendi assignment. If she could find a reason to enjoy her work, she was sure some narrow-minded other Yasi could do the same. It wasn't that difficult. For her, at least. She approached the man assigning the Yasi their Bendi with the others, only her eyes showing her amusement. She'd have a good laugh later, when she was working. She always did. It was good to start a Bendi in high spirits. |
