Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Noon had drawn near to the city of Riverfall, and subsequently The Sanctuary. Syna’s golden orb hung high in the sky, filling everything its rays touched with a golden warmth.

After spending the morning cleaning, Lakara had decided to wander outside for a short while. Her hands smelled of the liquid she had used to scrub down the counters and floors, and her top was wet with splashes from washing it all off the surfaces. She didn’t mind though, she loved her work – even the cleaning side of it. She was grateful every day for being able to live and work at The Sanctuary; she was able to do what she loved each day.

While she was passing the stables an odd sound reached the Konti’s ears. It was a pitiful mewling and it seemed to be coming from behind the stables themselves. A light frown crossed her face and she headed over to investigate. What she found was a kitten, a very young kitten.

“Oh you poor thing.” Lakara stepped a little closer. Its fur was dirty and it continued to mew. It was far too young to be without its mother and that concerned her. She crouched down and held a hand out to the animal. It paid her no heed, almost like she was not there. Lakara paused for a moment before she reached out and scooped the tiny animal up and proceeded to hurry back to The Sanctuary.

She quickly passed through the large entrance hall, moving back into one of the treatment rooms. The kitten was limp in her arms and still making pitiful noises. She found some cloth and laid it over the counter, placing the kitten gently on top of it.

She did a quick visual assessment. The kitten was far too young to have been away from its mother and seemingly had been for a while. Long enough at least for it to become very thin and dirty. Lakara reached out and gently felt along the kitten’s sides and legs for any injuries. When she touched its back right leg, it jerked the limb as if in pain and continued to mew.

Stroking its head to try to keep it calm – though it wasn’t really putting up a fight anyway – Lakara carefully parted the fur where she had touched. There she saw a cut. It wasn’t big, but compared to the size of the animal it was large enough. Infection didn’t appear to have set in properly yet, though it did look sore. In a couple of day’s time it would definitely become infected without treatment.

Lakara stroked the poor kitten again before she healed it. She placed her hand gently over the wound and closed her eyes. Of course, closing her eyes was not necessary, it merely helped her focus. She tapped into Rak’keli’s mark, the twin serpents that graced the back of her right shoulder. Power ran down her arm and through her hand into the tiny body of the kitten.

Under her touch, the redness around the wound began to lessen, and then the skin slowly knitted itself back together. Not even a scar remained behind; it was as if there had never been an injury there at all. The kitten had quietened abruptly as her Gnosis cleansed it and was now simply laid on the counter, watching the Konti with large eyes.

The next thing that Lakara decided to do was wash the kitten. Its coat was dirty from dust and mud, and it had matted in places where the fur was longer. The last thing that she wanted to do was bathe it in a bucket of water. Since the poor animal was incredibly thin it would freeze quickly. She quickly formulated an alternate plan.

The first thing the Konti did was to grab a pair of small scissors. Stroking the kitten to keep it calm, she carefully trimmed the longer fur on its stomach. It had matted where dirt and mud had built up, and it was most likely very uncomfortable for the kitten. She didn’t cut it all completely; she left a very short layer of fur which she would brush out later.

Lakara gently scooped the kitten up and stood it on the counter. It wobbled for a moment, mewed once and then stood still. She dampened a cloth and then proceeded to rub the kitten with it. Her aim was to loosen the dried mud and dirt, and to remove the lighter, dustier stuff from its fur. The cloth was quickly stained brown, so she took another and repeated till the fabric was staying pretty much clean.

The little kittens fur was now stuck up on end and slightly damp. Lakara took a towel and rubbed it down again, drying the fur so the animal wouldn’t grow cold and become ill. She smiled at the now fluffy kitten before setting the dirty towel and cloths to the side to wash later. A brush was next; she chose a soft brush to smooth the coat down and list out any lingering dust.

When she was satisfied that the kitten was clean and dry, she located a couple of bowls. One she filled with clean water and set by the kitten who immediately began to drink. Into the second, she put a small amount of food. As it was dried, she added water to the bowl and then mushed it up as much as she could. She kept the amount small, since the kittens stomach was most likely contracted. Plus there was the added fact that it would most likely have been gaining most of its nutrients from the mother.

Once the kitten had drunk its fill and eaten as much of the food as it wanted, Lakara scooped it up, grabbed some clean towels and made her way to her room. She would come back and thoroughly clean the treatment area once the kitten was settled. In her room, she emptied a basket and filled it with the towels before settling the kitten into it. She would stay with it for a time to make sure it settled, and to check if any other problems revealed themselves. After that, she would find Kavala ask her to have a check and also ask about feed. During its stay at The Sanctuary, this would be one very loved little kitten.

Aw, cute kitty. Cute thread. I awarded you a few other skills I found, beyond what you were searching for. If cleaning is her job, wouldn't she love to be good at it? Get things done more efficiently? So, there's that. The other ones seem obvious. Let me know if you feel like I missed anything. Carry on saving the world, on kitty at a time!
