Physical Description

Reo has long, cascading amber -red that he occasionally braids and adourns with a plethora of colourful decorations, but you are more likely to find him with his hair tied in a stylish ponytail. He has deep, golden eyes that appear to have the capabilty to see straight into the vast depths of an individual's soul. His pale skin is disguised by the hard features of his face and the shadows created by his muscular body. As a result he looks slightly darker than most of the Inarta and always appears to be in a brooding, contemplative mood. He stands at 5'7'' and 150 lbs of mainly muscle, his physique is far more defined than built. Because of the Gnosis he attained at a young age from the God of Birds, which allows him to communicate with birds, he has small golden, red feathers growing from the top of his ear.

Character Concept

Reo struggles to understand himself as he has a multifold of emotions within him that all fight to get to the surface. Despite this, at most times, he is able to maintain a chipper attitude that infects those around him. Though do not get on his wrong side as he can snap at you without a moment's warning. If he wants something, he will go for it. Like most of the Inarta, he is out-spoken and blunt. This does, at times, get Reo into a little bit of trouble. Reo can be brash, so when he is in a bit of trouble - he is not likely to be the one backing down. He is ready to accept any challenge thrown his way and this gets him into some tight spots, especially so high up in the Kalea mountains. Though Reo has very few friends, and prefers it like this, he is very sociable and can meet people easily. His closet friend is the red-tailed hawk that he has had since birth, Layla. Reo, loves birds. It has been this way even before he gained his gnosis from Eywaat, his love has been amplified ever since he started listening to birds and his passion to become an Endal burns far more furiously now.

Character History

Reo, born in 491 AV, in Wind Reach had the classic Inarta story. He was born with a twin but he never found out what happened to him, sometimes Reo feels emotions that aren't his but he has never been able to pinpoint where they come from. Reo was born to a Dek woman who had to succumb to the desires of an Avora. Reo was then raised in one of the communal nurseries, where he had to toughen up at a young age and learn to survive on scraps. At eight he moved to the youth sectors and always aspired to be an Endal like so many others who were his peers. Throughout this entire time Layla was there to keep him company and on nights where he could feel his stomach rumble from hunger, Layla would arrive with a small fish or a squirrel for him to eat. It was his love for Layla that threw Reo over a cliff, diving down to save his bird with a broken wing that supplied the premise of him meeting Eywaat and gaining the Tatani gnosis. Reo improved slightly in unarmed combat and hunting but was very adept at Falconry but never wanted to reveal his talent as he feared losing Layla. His otherTalent was that of cooking, which he never enjoyed but which his supervisors took a great interest in. So before his being signed to an apprenticeship, Reo ran away from the youth section and went to live as a Dek, surviving through the fish and squirrels that Layla returned with each night. All this time, Reo carried on practicing his hunting and combat skills in the hope sthat he could eventually become an Endal.

The Master doesn't try to be powerful; thus he is truly powerful. The ordinary man keeps reaching for power; thus he never has enough.

Gnosis: Flying with Eywaat

Postby Reo on October 13th, 2011, 12:47 pm

Reo sat at the edge of the world with Layla sprawled across his lap, she had broken her wing when she mistimed a dive and crashed into the cliff side. Reo had run to her safety. They had come out here to enjoy the view in their rare moment of free time. The 10 year old Yasi hardly had any free time and when he did he liked to watch Layla fly and hunt for food. Sometimes she brought back some of her kill to Reo and he would pretend to eat it, Layla always seemed satisfied as long as he took the delicacies. Reo was attaching a splint to Layla’s wing and humming gentle tunes to the red-tailed hawk. He didn’t enjoy seeing his best friend in pain, so he worked quickly. Eventually the splint was attached and Layla was hopping around merrily.

Reo decided to sit here a bit longer so he could watch the Endals ride their Eagles and the fledglings take their first dives. Reo felt a pang in his heart whenever he saw an eagle rider; he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He would become an Endal and nothing would get in his way. As Reo daydreamed about his future touching the skies and playing in between the rays of the sun on his very own eagle, he didn’t notice Layla hop over to the ledge. She looked to the sky as well and in a moment of forgetfulness she jumped into the air and tried to beat her wings to gain altitude but instead her splint broke off and she plummeted towards the earth below.

Reo saw a flash of brown and red hurtling over the side of the mountain edge and immediately knew it was the only reminder he had of his parents and his closest friend. Without thinking and instinctively, he leapt after her. He saw the flailing bird a few centimetres ahead of his own extended fingers. The wind beat against his face and his amber-red hair escaped the ponytail it had been loosely tied up in. Reo extended both arms and caught Layla and brought her close to his chest. For a brief moment, Reo wondered if this was what it felt like to fly. This made him smile, he would die knowing that for a few brief chimes he had flown, albeit downwards, but he had touched the sky nonetheless. He closed his eyes and awaited impact, at least he was with Layla and perhaps she would survive if he used his body as a barrier between her and the earth.

Reo felt an unimaginable pain dig into his shoulders, was this the ground? Had he landed upon his back? Would death start from his shoulders and spread through his whole body. Was he dead already? No, he wasn’t dead; he had not seen his life flash before his eyes or heard the song of Gods and the pain in his shoulders was still horribly searing. He felt for the ground but there was nothing there. This could only mean one thing. He was flying, but how? Was the pain the growth of his wings, it seemed the most plausible thought. He opened his eyes and saw clouds all around him. Flying was so effortless, he was putting in no effort at all. Slowly, Reo’s senses returned to him and realised how implausible his theory was. He looked above him and there, with its talons dug deeply into his shoulders, was a black eagle carrying him back to the cliff edge.

The giant bird performed a few twists and turns before placing him solidly on safe ground. Once the shock had passed, Reo looked into his arms and found a slightly panicked but otherwise fine Layla looking back up at him. After he checked that Layla was alright, he looked up searching for the black bird to which he owed his gratitude but instead found a man with wavy dark hair sitting on the cliff edge laughing with elation. He soon took notice of Reo; “Come sit next to me little one”, he said between laughs. Reo approached with a mixture of caution and curiosity and plonked himself next to the man. “Well that was fun”, he said as he fought back giggles, “I don't suppose you know who I am, Reo” he continued whilst looking at the fledglings that were still diving off the cliff face. Reo wasn’t sure how to answer, he had never spoken to a God before and he didn’t want to offend him. Reo cautiously shook his head.

Eywaat released another boisterous laugh as he playfully slapped Reo on the back which almost made him fall off the edge again. “I am Eywaat, God of the birds, I look after your Layla and countless other birds and your little friend there has told me much about you”, Eywaat said this as he got up again. “I can’t stay for long but I just wanted you to know that I appreciate your dedication to my brothers and sisters and they too, appreciate it”, Reo turned his golden eyes to the serene God and was fixated by his large smile, “but you can hear it from them now”. Reo was just about to ask the Eagle Lord what he meant but in an instant he transformed into a black crow and disappeared into the sky.

Reo sat on the ledge in awe, watching the expanse of the sky in the hopes of a second glimpse of the Feathered Prince but it never came. He was broken from his trance by Layla, who gently nibbled on his thumb. Reo gathered some equipment and went to work on a second splint, all the while small fledgling feathers were sprouting from the top of his ear which he didn’t notice until a dek pointed them out later that evening. Reo realized that he hadn’t had an opportunity to thank the God for saving his life, he would spend the rest of his life thanking him by working with birds and one day would thank him in person. One day he would fly with the Crow Brother.
