Physical Description

Asami is a small and fragile looking girl with pale skin. She has long black hair that goes down to her lower back and she has brown eyes. She is only about 5 feet and 1 inches and weighs about 105 pounds. One look at her can tell anyone that she is not very strong, as she has very little muscle in her body, however, not looking malnourished.

As with anyone, the way she dresses can tell one a lot about her personality. One will normally see her dressed in long skirts and generally ‘modest’ clothing.

Character Concept

When someone first meets her, she is very shy and introverted. It can be a bit difficult to get to know her, because she cannot do social things very easily of her own initiative. Because of this, some people might consider her cold or apathetic. However, it is the opposite. She has a great respect for all life and desperately wants a world where everyone is happy. She is often considered too caring, as she is willing to inconvenience herself much to help others.

But, as one gets to know her, they find that there is much more to her personality. When she gets more comfortable around people, she begins to open up a bit more, showing her more playful and thinking side of her personality among other traits. Many might be surprised when they realize she is the same shy person as before, with how happily she talks. Despite her cheerful and idealistic personality, she still thinks very lowly of herself.

Due to being born with anemia, she is very physically weak and cannot do much physical strenuous activity. However, on the other hand, she is an intellectual who loves to challenge her brain.

She also has quite a few bad habits, such as ending up forgetting the time and spending too much doing one activity and she sometimes is hard to get motivated to do something, depending on the activity.

Perhaps due to her sympathy for others or perhaps due to how well her brain works, she can sometimes feel pain if she sees it or hears about it, often making her sick when people discuss injuries.

She hates violence, and thinks things should be discussed, ideally, but the intelligent side of her also lets her realize that violence is sometimes necessary as not everything in the world works ideally. She will use it, if necessary, to protect people. Although her weakness makes her unable to use physical violence, she tends to use mental violence, in other words tricking and fooling a person or dictating a strategy to someone who can use physical violence. As a last resort she can use magic violence, but she gets scared even considering that.

As far as magic is concerned, she is often conflicted. Because of her past trauma, she has trouble wanting to learn magic or even to avoid getting sick when thinking about it. But on the other hand, her curiosity makes her want to study it and learn all different kinds, while her self-sacrificing attitude makes her want to learn it to help people. Recently she has finally worked up motivation to study it more in depth, but it still frightens her.

Character History

Born as a only child to what seemed like ordinary parents, she lived fairly well, despite being born with anemia.

The biggest problem in her life was a small one, she had a bit of attention deficit from her parents growing up. It was not that her parents hated her, but rather, they were very busy. They were magic users, who worked with a group of magicians who all tried to understand magic, where it came from, and how it could be used to advance the world. But this was really all she knew about their work. She did not know the specifics of what they did there, other than just studying it nor how they managed to do so or even how a group of wizards managed to have enough trust between them to work together. All she knew was that a lot of their time was spent doing this job.

She did not complain, however, and instead would often do things to make her parents happy. She would try to make them breakfast if they had been at work all night or she would try to do most of the housework so they could focus on their work. And, she also studied a lot, wanting to impress her parents. Soon these become her enjoyment also, and most likely lead to her curiosity and her love to help people.

Her parents thought it was cute that she studied so hard and were proud of her, even if they could not be with her all the time. But this soon lead to her studying something the two did not hope her to do so. She started reading papers about magic and trying to imitate them and use it.

Her parents would scold her, and tell her not to do it, because it was too dangerous. But she would respond she was fine and that she found it interesting and thought she could help people if she mastered it. They continued to scold her, and so she ended up only practicing in secret, where they would not find her. Her parents had found hints that she was doing it, and in the end, decided to let her be, believing she could not use magic without being initiated.

But, one day, while practicing, she was approached by a strange tall man, wearing a cloak around his body. His first and only words to her were simply, “So, you want to learn to use magic?” and after being a bit surprised, she agreed. She was still young plus her natural tendency to trust people, even if she can find reason to not trust them lead her to accept this suspicious man's offer. He gave her the initiation, and then left without saying anything, leaving her there in a deep amounts of pain, due to the effects of the initiation and her anemia.

Her parents were away until the morning, and they found her on the ground, moaning in pain having trouble breathing, and quickly took her to the hospital.

She managed to recover, but was still determined to learn despite the pain. Her parents had her tell them about the man, but they could not figure out who it might be or even why someone would just initiate a random person like that. Her father soon regretfully decided to teach her. It was not because he wanted to, but if he did not consent, she would probably end up killing herself trying to practice it on her own. And he was worried that man might come back and do something more with her.

Though she was only 11, he was surprised. It was not due to her progress, which was slow due to the natural weakness of her body, but instead he was surprised with her questions. She often asked very deep questions about magic and would often consider the answer to her own question, sometimes even for weeks.

Her natural curiosity for the why of things and wanting to understand things continued to expand, and she would often look at notes her father and mother had written down, which were often questions, and would write down her own theories.

It was more than just her own curiosity, though. Because of her tendency to do this and because she was being taught magic by her parents, she found that she was getting to spend more time with them, even if it was discussing their work, and she enjoyed the attention from them.

Until she was 13, she continued to have this happy time. However, one day marked the point from where her trauma of magic would start. She was with her father practicing magic, with him showing her his own.

While they were doing such, they were suddenly attacked by several people in cloaks. Her father told her to hide and began to attack them back. And, despite being outnumbered, he was succeeding, which Asami found strange. Even though her father was very skilled, to take on multiple other wizards seemed a bit much.

Then, when he was about to use a fire attack, it seemed he lost control and had overgiven. From every one of his openings, including the microscopic pores, suddenly fire started coming out in random spurts. While this happened, the people who attacked him did not seem surprised nor did they seem to plan on taking advantage of his weakness. Instead, they just turned away and walked off as if it was natural to do so.

Asami watched as her father was burned alive by his own Djed. And the worst part was, that when it was all over, he was not dead. He was still alive, badly burned to the point where one would have trouble knowing his identity from his body alone.

And even worse, due to her being able to feel pain, especially severe pain from seeing it, she also felt some pain. She did not know if the pain she felt was what it truly felt like, but it was enough to make her feel sick and she collapsed, unconscious.

After that day, she and her mother began taking care of her father. It took a long time for her to even be able to think of magic without getting sick. Her fear of magic was also increased due to the fact that she blamed herself. If she had not been trying to learn from him, he would not have been using it so much, and perhaps the tragedy would never have happened. But she believed she had to force herself to understand it now even more, not only for the sake of helping people but also for the sake of perhaps finding a way to help her father.

Currently, she decided she would go out on her own. If she wanted to learn more about magic and how to help people, she needed to explore different places.

She decided she would get a house in Zeltiva, and use that as her base. She figured Zeltiva, a place where many people pass through so she could hear many stories about the world. Furthermore, because Zeltiva had some older remains of past civilization, she believed it to be an interesting thing to study, and furthermore, the university might be a good place to go to, or even attend if she could.

Her mother wanted to stop her from going, but she was very stubborn about it and would not change her idea. She wanted to help not only her father, but as many people as she could. Her mother also knew how stubborn she could be, and so gave her some essentials and helped her prepare or her journey.
