Physical Description

Solaris, or more commonly, Sol, has a significantly slighter stature than most young men his age. He has an unintimidating appearance; he is very pale and altogether slender, with a narrow frame. He has relatively small feet and thin, nimble fingers. As a Kelvic who can transform into an altogether unimposing but scruffy black cat, he has similar, short, unkempt black hair that tends to spike on top of his head in the rough impression of ears and lamplike, golden eyes with feline-shaped irises. Brute strength is not one of his fortes, and is much more inclined towards stealth and rogue-ish pursuits. He is always seen wearing fingerless leather gloves, for on the backs of his palms are two large, x-shaped scars dealt to him by his first master.

Character Concept

Sol is somewhat unusual as a Kelvic because of the undercurrents of rebelliousness within his personality. His genetic nature inclines him to seek a master or some form of strong leadership, but past experiences with his first master have caused him to question whether he truly needs another person to rule over him to feel contentment in his life. He is generally quiet and tends to shy away from large crowds, but is not afraid to get aggressive if he has the motivation. Anger makes him impulsive and illogical, and he can be very selfish once he sets his mind on acquiring something or achieving a particular goal. Despite his poor experiences with his first master, if he ever finds the right person, he will become wholly devoted and loyal to them. He is, on the whole, rather serious for his age and always has been, and is often seen either with a neutral expression on his face or a frown. He is not anti-social, but does not get along with others easily, and has no real friends both by choice and circumstance. He is instantly distrustful of all strangers.

His unimpressive stature and lack of strength irks him on a daily basis, and he wishes he could shapeshift into a more powerful feline, such as a tiger. He has been in many a brawl and is a scrappy fighter who relies mostly on his agility.

He is not picky about food or living conditions, having been far from pampered by his first master.

Nearly all of his possessions, including his equipment and horse, have been acquired through theft, and the only form of “honest” work he has the inclination to pursue is through busking.

He is bisexual although he is not wholly certain of his orientation yet, as his only experiences have been with his male master.

Character History

Pre-creation: Sol has no recollection of his parents or any sort of family, and his earliest memory is that of being picked off the streets by his first master, Rhyss, a human with an ambition for power and a penchant for cruelty who held him in slavery for as long as he can remember. Rhyss dabbled greatly in the magical arts, and Sol strongly believes that the man intentionally wiped his memory, perhaps after stealing him away from whatever original form of family he once possessed. Rhyss’ main form of income was through an apothecary, and Sol spent his days running errands and filling orders, and thus picked up a very basic knowledge of botany. The man found reasons to lash out on the Kelvic nearly every day, and the most brutal instance of abuse occurred when he slashed the backs of his hands, marking him forever, when he witnessed him talking to a frequent customer on excessively friendly terms. It was later that night when Sol began to question his own place and that of his master’s, and whether he would ever find happiness with him, as so far his many efforts to please him were in vain. He also shared a largely one-sided, physical aspect of his relationship with his master, and disregarding a growing affection for a regular female customer to the apothecary who always treated him as an equal and with utmost kindness, his master is the only person with whom he has ever had a “romantic” relationship, although the term is used lightly. So far, love is a foreign concept to him, and after the violently traumatic ending of his friendship with said woman, he is convinced it does not exist.

Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately?) for Sol, Rhyss had gained the wrong sort of enemy, leading to the attack and burning of the apothecary. In the chaos, Sol attacked Rhyss, ripping the key to unlocking his collar off the chain the man constantly wore around his neck. He disappeared into the dark, left to wander the streets alone, and to this day does not know whether Rhyss survived and is searching for him or not.

He is conflicted mainly because his life with Rhyss was not wholly a terrible one; the man taught him how to read, clothed and fed him, and essentially raised him to his young adulthood. This leads him to hold a strong sense of debt that he both feels he does not owe, and that he can never repay.
