Yve

Physical Description

ImageYve has a very open face. Her eyes are dark and expressive, and she often smiles. She has thick, curly auburn hair, to about the middle of her back. She's built small, and stands around 5'4", shorter than most people. Her skin is pale and lightly freckled. Despite how ruggedly she lives, her skin is soft and unmarred, except for the soles of her feet, which are very tough because she doesn't own shoes. Her physical capabilities are slim to none; she isn't strong, but she is very nimble and fast.

Yve's animal form is a speckled barn owl. She has a soft, creamy plummage and the underside of her body is peppered with dark flecks. The tops of her wings and back are the color of rich caramel. This form was not made for the ground though, and like most owls she has to hop oddly to get around on her feet. Her flight is close to if not completely silent, the only sound coming from stirring air under her wings. In both forms she has incredible hearing and sight, which has saved her on several ocassions.

Personality

Yve is very curious and inventive. She is good at thinking on her feet and improvising, and is skilled at making useful tools from all kinds of things. She collects a lot of things, especially shiny trinkets like necklaces and rings. Never by stealing, but if it is lying on the ground she thinks of it as fair game. One would say that she's a magpie. At the least she has a kind heart, and takes an interest in just about everyone. She is innocent to many aspects of the world, and it can get her into trouble for she often only sees the good in something at first glance.

History

Yve grew up very sheltered. Her mother, Jeane, had been a slave when Yve was first born, and was in charge of caring for the children of a large merchant family. She was prized for the versatility that her wolf form provided, and her skill at rearing youngsters. Yve's mother never told her where she born exactly, but she has faint memories of some smells and sounds.

For as long as she could remember though, she and her mother had lived with an elderly couple on the edge of Zeltiva. She never knew anything about their past, but loved them dearly and thought of them as her grandparents, though she knew they weren't related. Her grandfather, Lod, made his trade in the forests of the wilds trapping and hunting different game. His wife, Aella, spent her time weaving. She made baskets, clothing, rugs, and the occassional tapestry. She sold these things, and her husband's catches, to the tradesmen in the city.

Yve's childhood was a very happy one. Her grandfather taught her about hunting and the wilderness, and she learned knotwork and how to weave baskets from her grandmother. Her mother often took her on long walks, telling her of the world and things she might someday see. Every opprotunity she had, she went flying. She loved to explore from the safety of the air, and quickly mastered her wings. It was her greatest enjoyment; that feeling of complete freedom in the air while others are confined to the ground.

Like all lives though, the happiness can't last forever. It was a seemingly blissful day; she and her mother had went for a walk to their favorite lake in the area. It had the most beautifully clear water Yve had ever seen in her life thus far. Her grandparents had come for a change, which made it all the better. Her mother and Lod went to the wooded area nearby to catch a fresh meal to cook, while Yve and Aella waited and wove garlands from the long grass. The time passed quickly, and as evening approuched, so did Lod, left leg and shoulder mangled. He refused to rest and quickly led them back the way he had come.

A part of Yve died that day, while her grandfather led them into the trees. She didn't remember the woods being so deep, but it seemed to take them forever to reach her mother. There she was, the body of a wolf, impaled through the chest by a wicked looking sword. Her teeth were locked around the crushed throat of she and Lod's attacker. Yve didn't really pay attention to her grandfather's story of what happened, and she didn't care. Her mother was dead, and the story of how it happened didn't matter. She barely even looked at the man who had done it. All she really remembered seeing was her mother. Before they buried her, Yve's grandparents gave her the necklace her mother had always worn. They had left the man in the woods for scavengers. The necklace was a simple silver pendant, with small, intricant engravings, and a matching silver chain. Simple but beautiful like her mother was. After she put it on, she never took it off for anything, and never would.

The next few months were nothing compared to her life when her mother was alive, but she made it by. She spent much more time flying, mostly in the wilds, often gone for days at a time to hone her hunting skills. Soon after she reached maturity, she decided to said goodbye to her grandparents. She would miss them terribly but thought it was time she out in the world her mother had told her much about, so she set out, though with no real destination. She only took a pair of clothes, and spent almost all of her time as an owl; hunting, sleeping, and traveling as such.

Eventually though, she got lonely, so she started seeking out company more often. And for some reason she ended up in a routine of finding people who she thought needed her pants more than she did, and ending up giving each new pair away. A traveler with a hole in the knee, a beggar, and hunter who had ruined his a briar patch, etc. Yve didn't need pants anyway, they could be uncomfortable and her shirt was long enough to cover her legs to the knee.

She spent a few months in this routine until she found herself in the Bronze Wood. It was a beautiful place, and she had seen a few stray Kelvic from afar, but she never approuched them. There was no need to. She spent a lot of time helping hunters and gatherers. It was enough human contact to keep her content, but never really happy. The coming of her second winter was a time for something new though. Her family had never allowed her to wander into the city of her childhood, and they never explained why. Yve's mother had seemed afraid of going with her grandmother to sell to the traders, and forbade making contact with the city denizens. On her travels she had avoided any other cities because she feared she wasn't ready for the commotion. But it was time for a change of scenery. She knew the capital Syliras was nearby, and it was the perfect place to start.

So she set off with the new hope of companionship. Yve wanted to find that special person, someone to share her travels with. She had a hope that maybe she'd luck out and find that someone sooner rather than later.
